The main argument in favor of military tribunals is to keep important intelligence out of the public domain. They were established in the interest of national security, for which Holder has no concern, hence his ongoing crusade against those who have kept us safe and those continue to keep us safe.

So don't investigate the military and intelligence failures that led to the slaughter of 14 Americans and injuries to 38 more because their families don't deserve justice and there's no point in trying to prevent acts of terrorism in the future (even though it is certain to happen again, and much worse, because Fort Hood was likely a test run for something larger, given all of Hasan's al-Qaeda ties, his sheer brazenness, and his Pakistan connections), but give the mastermind of the murders of 3000 Americans a show trial to contest his detention even though he's not an American citizen in order to persecute Bush and the intelligence community for keeping us safe for 7 years, and compromise crucial intelligence to boot. Basically, Obama wants to "be clear" in his position that terrorism and murdering Americans are to be encouraged, but preventing terrorism and punishing mass murderers for war crimes when they commit them is verboten. Obama has demonstrated more loyalty to al-Qaeda than to America, and for that he should be tried for treason, but not before he is made to prove his US citizenship, and if he can't then he should be tried in a military tribunal. That's my idea of justice and it happens to be the military's, too.

Michael Mukasey, the attorney general at the end of President Bush's second term, ripped his successor's decision to prosecute the Sept. 11 conspirators in a federal court, saying the trial will give jihadists a forum and could compromise delicate intelligence.
Mukasey, in an interview with Fox News, called the civilian trial announced Friday by Attorney General Eric Holder "the wrong place, under the wrong circumstances, in the wrong forum."

Shia rebels in northern Yemen say Saudi Arabia has carried out more bombing raids, targeting several villages along the border.
The rebels say Saudi planes also struck a mountainous area more than 10km inside Yemeni territory.
There's been no word on any casualties from the recent raids.
Earlier this week, the Saudi authorities said they would keep bombing northern Yemen until the rebels had pulled back from the border.
The rebels, known as the Houthis, say their grievance is with the Yemeni government, and that Saudi Arabia should stay out of the conflict.
Saudi Arabia has evacuated 240 villages because of the fighting according to a statement by UN children's fund, Unicef.
The UN body also said more than 50 schools had been closed because of the fighting and that there was a "deep concern about the escalation of the conflict".

It looks like NYC's authorities are now hopefully taking responsible action by having the Feds confiscate 4 mosques and a skyscraper that may be controlled by Iran:
NEW YORK (AP) - Federal prosecutors took steps Thursday to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government.Are they so sure of that? If this were a Christian Church or a Jewish Synagogue in question, something tells me it would've been shut down long ago if they were suspected of aiding evil forces.
In what could prove to be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in U.S. history, prosecutors filed a civil complaint in federal court against the Alavi Foundation, seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets.
The assets include bank accounts; Islamic centers consisting of schools and mosques in New York City, Maryland, California and Houston; more than 100 acres in Virginia; and a 36-story glass office tower in New York.
Confiscating the properties would be a sharp blow against Iran, which has been accused by the U.S. government of bankrolling terrorism and trying to build a nuclear bomb.
A telephone call and e-mail to Iran's U.N. Mission seeking comment were not immediately answered.
John D. Winter, the Alavi Foundation's lawyer, said it intends to litigate the case and prevail. He said the foundation has been cooperating with the government's investigation for the better part of a year.
"Obviously the foundation is disappointed that the government has decided to bring this action," Winter told The Associated Press.
It is extremely rare for U.S. law enforcement authorities to seize a house of worship, a step fraught with questions about the First Amendment right to freedom of religion.
The action against the Shiite Muslim mosques is sure to inflame relations between the U.S. government and American Muslims, many of whom are fearful of a backlash after last week's Fort Hood shooting rampage, blamed on a Muslim American major.Once again, the AP Wire is resorting to victimology and apologia, and paying lip service to an unindicted co-conspirator in terrorism, instead of providing the authorities with the backup they need to get the job done.
"Whatever the details of the government's case against the owners of the mosques, as a civil rights organization we are concerned that the seizure of American houses of worship could have a chilling effect on the religious freedom of citizens of all faiths and may send a negative message to Muslims worldwide," said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
The mosques and the skyscraper will remain open while the forfeiture case works its way through court in what could be a long process. What will happen to them if the government ultimately prevails is unclear. But the government typically sells properties it has seized through forfeiture, and the proceeds are sometimes distributed to crime victims.And we all have Jimmy Carter to thank for the Shah's downfall and replacement by the much more sadistic Ayatollah. I hope the authorities do the right thing and shut down those so-called institutions.
"No action has been taken against any tenants or occupants of those properties," U.S. attorney's office spokeswoman Yusill Scribner said. "The tenants and occupants remain free to use the properties as they have before today's filing. There are no allegations of any wrongdoing on the part of any of these tenants or occupants."
Prosecutors said the Alavi Foundation managed the office tower on behalf of the Iranian government and, working with a front company known as Assa Corp., illegally funneled millions in rental income to Iran's state-owned Bank Melli. Bank Melli has been accused by a U.S. Treasury official of providing support for Iran's nuclear program, and it is illegal in the United States to do business with the bank.
The U.S. has long suspected the foundation was an arm of the Iranian government; a 97-page complaint details involvement in foundation business by several top Iranian officials, including the deputy prime minister and ambassadors to the United Nations.
"For two decades, the Alavi Foundation's affairs have been directed by various Iranian officials, including Iranian ambassadors to the United Nations, in violation of a series of American laws," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement.
There were no raids Thursday as part of the forfeiture action. The government is simply required to post notices of the civil complaint on the property.
As prosecutors outlined their allegations against Alavi, the Islamic centers and the schools they run carried on with normal activity. The mosques' leaders had no immediate comment.
Parents lined up in their cars to pick up their children at the schools within the Islamic Education Center of Greater Houston and the Islamic Education Center in Rockville, Md. No notices of the forfeiture action were posted at either place as of late Thursday.
At the Islamic Institute of New York, a mosque and school in Queens, two U.S. marshals came to the door and rang the bell repeatedly. The marshals taped a forfeiture notice to the window and left a large document sitting on the ground. After they left a group of men came out of the building and took the document.
The fourth Islamic center marked for seizure is in Carmichael, Calif.
The skyscraper, known as the Piaget building, was erected in the 1970s under the shah of Iran, who was overthrown in 1979. The tenants include law and investment firms and other businesses.
The sleek, modern building, last valued at $570 million to $650 million in 2007, has served as an important source of income for the foundation over the past 36 years. The most recent tax records show the foundation earned $4.5 million from rents in 2007.For the sake of America's safety, and the rest of the world, that's why it's important to close these institutions down.
Rents collected from the building help fund the centers and other ventures, such as sending educational literature to imprisoned Muslims in the U.S. The foundation has also invested in dozens of mosques around the country and supported Iranian academics at prominent universities.
If federal prosecutors seize the skyscraper, the Alavi Foundation would have almost no way to continue supporting the Islamic centers, which house schools and mosques. That could leave a major void in Shiite communities, and hard feelings toward the FBI, which played a big role in the investigation.
The forfeiture action comes at a tense moment in U.S.-Iranian relations, with the two sides at odds over Iran's nuclear program and its arrest of three American hikers.
But Michael Rubin, an expert on Iran at the American Enterprise Institute, said the timing of the forfeiture action was probably a coincidence, not an effort to influence Iran on those issues.
"Suspicion about the Alavi Foundation transcends three administrations," Rubin said. "It's taken ages dealing with the nuts and bolts of the investigation. It's not the type of investigation which is part of any larger strategy."
Legal scholars said they know of only a few cases in U.S. history in which law enforcement authorities have seized a house of worship. Marc Stern, a religious-liberty expert with the American Jewish Congress, called such cases extremely rare.Unfortunately, if I'm not mistaken, they have not done the same with other Islamic countries with potential ties to terror like the UAE, and the House of Saud. These should not be overlooked, and federal prosecutors are going to have to start considering investigating them as well.
The Alavi Foundation is the successor organization to the Pahlavi Foundation, a nonprofit group used by the shah to advance Iran's charitable interests in America. But authorities said its agenda changed after the fall of the shah.
In 2007, the United States accused Bank Melli of providing services to Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs and put the bank on its list of companies whose assets must be frozen. Washington has imposed sanctions against various other Iranian businesses.

President Hugo Chavez's government has nationalized two coffee processors and is planning to purchase a majority stake in a third as it moves to assert greater control over Venezuela's strictly regulated food sector.
Presidential decrees published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday ordered the takeover of Fama de America and Cafea. Government officials have said they also hope to purchase a majority stake in a third company, Cafe Madrid _ guaranteeing Chavez's government control over more than half of Venezuela's coffee industry.
Company executives have not been available to comment on the announcements, and it was not clear whether they would be compensated.
In addition to nationalizations in the electricity, cement and oil sectors, Chavez's government has nationalized some 2.5 million hectares of land considered to be idle or whose titles were in doubt.
In the past two years, the government has also purchased a major dairy company and expropriated a rice processing plant owned by U.S. food giant Cargill Inc.
It is now asserting control over coffee companies it accuses of acting as monopolies and flouting price controls by smuggling coffee into Colombia _ allegations the companies deny.
Price controls are among the dozens of laws and regulations that Chavez's government has imposed on the food sector. The government says the controls are necessary to guarantee affordable supply in the face of 27 percent annual inflation. But food prices have increased 26.5 percent in the last twelve months despite the regulations.
Venezuela on Wednesday crushed more than 30,000 guns seized from the streets during police raids this year.Policemen used blow-torches to chop up some of shotguns and pistols. They compacted weapons including home-made pistols into a 5 ton block, said Interior Minister Tarek Al Aisammi.
"Here we have weapons captured in operations during 2009," he said on state television. "This act forms part of the disarmament policies that we have been promoting."

The Pakistan People's Party (PPP)-led government in Pakistan is considering a proposal to seek Interpol's red corner notice against ex-military ruler Pervez Musharraf in a bid to bring him back from abroad to face treason charges, days after he called party chief and president Asif Ali Zardari "a criminal and a fraud".
Musharraf's remarks about Zardari, made in an interview to New Yorker magazine, have virtually united the PPP and main opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on the issue of dealing with the former president, who has been living outside Pakistan since April.
"The government is seriously considering a proposal to ask Interpol to issue a (red corner notice for) Musharraf so that he can be brought back here and tried for violating Article 6 of the Constitution (which relates to treason)," PPP leader Raja Riaz, who is senior minister in the provincial government of Punjab, told PTI.
PPP leaders had so far refrained from backing the demand for Musharraf to be brought back to Pakistan to face trial on charges of treason. Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani had even hinted it might not be possible to put Musharraf on trial after main opposition PML-N stepped up demands for action against him.
However, PPP leaders changed their stance after Musharraf harshly criticised Zardari.
During the interview, Musharraf said, "He (Zardari will) do anything to save himself. He's not a patriot and he's got no love for Pakistan. He's a third-rater."

PML-N leaders [NAWAZ SHARIF'S PARTY] said their party will not join protests against Musharraf being organised by the PPP but will support the move."The PPP-led government should take some concrete steps to bring the dictator back from abroad and arrest him for violating article 6 of the constitution," PML-N parliamentarian Pervaiz Rashid said.

The US ambassador in Kabul has written to the White House arguing against sending thousands more American troops to Afghanistan.
In a leaked cable, Karl Eikenberry expressed doubts about the competence of President Hamid Karzai's government.
The message arrived amid intense debate over strategy, with President Obama yet to make a decision on troop numbers.
This dramatic intervention seems to put the envoy at odds with generals wanting reinforcements, correspondents say.
... The top US military commander in Afghanistan, Gen Stanley McChrystal, has asked for at least 40,000 more US troops.
The US currently has some 68,000 troops in Afghanistan, contributing to a coalition force of more than 100,000.
Gen McChrystal was "fuming" about Mr Eikenberry's intervention, sources said.

ASIDE: Lakhdar Brahimi IS A TURD.Eikenberry graduated from Goldsboro High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1969[1] and then studied as an undergraduate at West Point, where he graduated in 1973.[2] In August 2007 he returned to Goldsboro to receive the key to the city from the mayor.[3]

Eikenberry served two tours of duty in the war in Afghanistan.[6] His first tour in Afghanistan was from September 2002- September 2003.
During this time he filled two positions; his primary duty was as the United States Security Coordinator for Afghanistan and the second position was the Chief of the Office of Military Cooperation-Afghanistan (OMC-A).
As the Security Coordinator he worked closely with UNSG Special Representative Lakhdar Brahimi to forge a unified international effort to build a cohesive security sector. This Security Sector Reform (SSR) project included building the Afghan National Army (U.S.), reforming the Afghan Police (Germany), Counter-Narcotics (U.K.), Judicial reform (Italy), and Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration of the militias (Japan and U.N.). In his role as Chief of the OMC-A he was the chief architect of the strategy that built and fielded the first Afghan Army Corps. During his second tour he was Commander of the Combined Forces Command for 18 months, leaving in 2007 to become the Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee.[4]

Just when you thought things were getting better, a new Gallup survey shows that Republicans lead on the generic congressional ballot among independents by only 22 points.
What accounts for this disappointing result?
I'm guessing it’s over-determined.
Surely, the baleful influence of talk radio is at work, and the party's rigid ideological conformity, and its inability to speak to voters outside the South.
The party may also already be experiencing the turbulence of its much-anticipated "civil war." I look forward to reading Frank Rich on Sunday for a more fully fleshed-out explanation for this ongoing Republican debacle.
