Michael Graham, blogging at The Natural Truth, brings us this disgusting but not surprising story about how CNN coached its anchors to treat the subject of fidel castro in an early morning email today.

I can now confirm independently that not only did such an email go out, here it is in its entirety:

Some points on Castro – for adding to our anchor reads/reporting:

* Please say in our reporting that Castro stepped down in a letter he wrote to Granma (the communist party daily), as opposed to in a letter attributed to Fidel Castro. We have no reason to doubt he wrote his resignation letter, he has penned numerous articles over the past year and a half.

* Please note Fidel did bring social reforms to Cuba – namely free education and universal health care, and racial integration. in addition to being criticized for oppressing human rights and freedom of speech.

THIS LAST PARAGRAPH IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO WHAT THE NYTIMES WROTE:

His record has been a mix of great social achievements, but a dismal economic performance that has mired most Cubans in poverty.

He succeeded in establishing universal health care, providing free education through college and largely rooting out racism.

But he never broke the island's dependence on commodities like sugar, tobacco and nickel, nor did he succeed in industrializing the nation so that Cuba could compete in the world market with durable goods.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of its aid to the island, Cuba has limped along economically, relying mostly on tourism and money sent home from exiles to get hard currency.

Very similar. Like Deval-Obama similar! I think the NYTIMES set the tone for the rest of the left-wing MSM to follow - they do almost everyday. The CNN memo is merely an instant when they got caught.

BUSH WARNS CUBA: REGIME CHANGE MUST COME WITH CASTRO'S DEATH

NYTIMES:

President Bush is planning to issue a stern warning Wednesday that the United States will not accept a political transition in Cuba in which power changes from one Castro brother to another, rather than to the Cuban people. ...

... In effect, the speech will be a call for Cubans to continue to resist, a particularly strong line coming from an American president.

... The administration official said Mr. Bush was expected to tell Cuban viewers that “soon they will have to make a choice between freedom and the force used by a dying regime.”

... The administration official gave no reason for the timing of Mr. Bush’s speech.

MAYBE HE SAYING ALL THIS NOW BECAUSE CASTRO IS FINALLY DYING?

CUBA RELEASES ONE POLITICAL PRISONER

BBC:

A well-known Cuban dissident has been freed from jail after serving nearly 15 years for revealing state security secrets, a human rights group has said.

Francisco Chaviano, a former teacher, was sentenced in 1995 and was released on parole on Friday.

The independent Cuban Commission for Human Rights and National Reconciliation said that he was Cuba's longest-serving political prisoner.

The Cuban government has not commented on Mr Chaviano's release. Mr Chaviano had been one of Cuba's leading dissidents and human rights activists in the early 1990s.

In the past Amnesty International has described his military trial as falling short of international standards.

The number of political prisoners in Cuba has fallen by about 20% since Raul Castro, brother of President Fidel Castro, was named as acting president just over a year ago, according to the Human Rights commission. But its spokesman, Elizardo Sanchez, said that there were still more than 200 such prisoners living in what he described as sub-human and degrading conditions.

The Cuban authorities denied that they were political prisoners, describing them as "counter-revolutionary mercenaries" on the payroll of the United States.

Also on Friday, another former political prisoner, Martha Beatriz Roque, held a news conference to denounce prison conditions. At the residence of the top US diplomat in Havana, she was joined by relatives of a number of dissidents currently in jail. The families complained of a lack of medical care, overcrowding and intimidation and said common criminals were treated better than political prisoners.
