In 6 years America will become the world’s largest oil producer once again

“America is poised to become the world’s largest oil producer once again — nearly four decades after it lost the title,” writes The Sunday Times.

Goldman Sachs, the investment bank, has predicted that US production will hit 10.9m barrels a day by 2017, a one-third rise over its current level of 8.3m barrels a day.

The surge is a result of novel drilling technologies that have opened new fields. The last time America was the biggest crude producer was 1973, when Opec, the cartel of oil-producing nations, launched its first embargo and sent prices soaring. Russia was the world’s top producer last year with daily output of 10.6m barrels, followed by Saudi Arabia at 10.4m. There are doubts about the ability of both to increase production substantially. Goldman expects Russia, whose nationalistic approach to natural resources limits investment from western firms, to have raised output by only 100,000 barrels a day by 2017.

... “The world cannot be running out of oil, because Aidan Heavey keeps finding more of it. Tullow Oil’s chief executive has seen the fortunes of his company transformed twice with big discoveries in Uganda (2006) and of Ghana (2007), and investors had been hoping for a third act. During the time the attack on the Israeli embassy took place in Cairo, a CNN filming crew was also menaced:

CNN journalists described the Friday mob that attacked them during the riot at the Israeli embassy as “animals.” One other journalist was called a spy and was almost raped.

The worldwide news site reported a scene that brought back ugly memories of the gang rape of CBS reporter Lara Logan earlier this year during the Arab spring uprising against the Mubarak regime.

CNN reported that one person in the mob on Friday called Dina Amer, a woman member of another American crew, “a spy.” A CNN producer who is an Egyptian approached to rescue the woman from the rioters, but “the mob overwhelmed the pair,” the network reported.

"I was thinking, how powerless I was because there was no police to save us," said the producer, Mohammed Fadel Fahmy. "I was worried that they were going to rape her."

What should also worry him is that the police might even want to help them.

Someone shouted to Fahmy that there was a nearby car, and he brought the “spy” into the vehicle, which belonged to a television crew.

“When Margaret Warner, a correspondent with the PBS program ‘Newshour’ managed to get the vehicle moving away from the crowd, men threw stones at the departing vehicle,” the journalist said.

"They were animals," said Amer.

The rioters also attacked Egyptian journalists, including a reporter for Egyptian state television. Many correspondents ran for their lives.

After the brutal and vulgar assault on CBS correspondent Logan, the Uncoverage.net website noted, “The assault on Lara Logan illustrates just how much order has recently broken down in the MidEast region which is now far more dangerous for Westerners.”

A boatload of Somali gunmen attacked an exclusive beachside resort in Kenya on Sunday, killing a British tourist and kidnapping his wife before racing back into Somalia, Western diplomats said.

American officials were initially concerned that that attack might have been connected to the Sept. 11 anniversary and that the gunmen were Islamist militants looking for Americans.

But by Sunday evening Western diplomats were leaning away from that theory, though they said they were still uncertain about the motive of the attack.

The beachside resort, Kiwayu Safari Village, is just south of the Somali border and one of the priciest destinations in Kenya, where guests stay in $1300-a-night bungalows at the water’s edge and are summoned to sumptuous feasts at night by the trumpet of a conch shell. Prince William and Mick Jagger are said to have vacationed here.

According to Western diplomats, the gunmen attacked the resort under the cover of darkness, zooming up to the beach in a small skiff shortly after midnight on Sunday.

It is not clear how the British tourist was killed but officials said the gunmen sped away with the dead man’s wife, heading toward Ras Kamboni, Somalia, a well-known hide-out for Islamist militants.

Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us they have a utopian solution of peace without victory.

They call their policy "MULTICULTURALISM." And they say if we'll only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he'll forget his evil ways and learn to love us.

All who oppose them are indicted as warmongers. They say we offer simple answers to complex problems. Well, perhaps there is a simple answer—not an easy answer—but simple: If you and I have the courage to tell our elected officials that we want our national policy based on what we know in our hearts is morally right.

We cannot buy our security, our freedom from the threat of the bomb by committing an immorality so great as saying to a billion human beings now enslaved UNDER ISLAMISM, "Give up your dreams of freedom because to save our own skins, we're willing to make a deal with your slave masters." Alexander Hamilton said, "A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one." Now let's set the record straight. There's no argument over the choice between peace and war, but there's only one guaranteed way you can have peace—and you can have it in the next second—surrender.

Admittedly, there's a risk in any course we follow other than this, but every lesson of history tells us that the greater risk lies in appeasement, and this is the specter our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to face—that their policy of MULTICULTURALISM is appeasement, and it gives no choice between peace and war, only between fight or SUBMISSION.

If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, TO SUBMIT - eventually we have to face the final demand—the ultimatum. And what then—when THE ISLAMISTS HAVE TOLD THEIR FOLOWERS THAT THEY KNOW what our answer will be? THEY HAVE SAID that we're retreating under the pressure of GLOBAL JIHAD, and someday when the time comes to deliver the final ultimatum, our surrender will be voluntary, because by that time we will have been weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically. THEY BELIEVE this because from our side THEY'VE heard voices pleading for "peace at any price" or ... or as one commentator put it, he'd rather "live on his knees than die on his feet."

And therein lies the road to war, because those voices don't speak for the rest of us.

You and I know and do not believe that life is so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery. If nothing in life is worth dying for, when did this begin—just in the face of this enemy?

Or should Moses have told the children of Israel to live in slavery under the pharaohs? Should Christ have refused the cross? Should the patriots at Concord Bridge have thrown down their guns and refused to fire the shot heard 'round the world?

The martyrs of history were not fools, and our honored dead who gave their lives to stop the advance of the Nazis didn't die in vain.

Where, then, is the road to peace? Well it's a simple answer after all.

You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, "There is a price we will not pay." "There is a point beyond which they must not advance."

And this—this is the meaning in the phrase of Barry Goldwater's "peace through strength." Winston Churchill said, "The destiny of man is not measured by material computations. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we're spirits—not animals." And he said, "There's something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty."

You and I have a rendezvous with destiny.

For this tenth anniversary of 9/11, as Barack Hussein Obama and a whole raft of others try to sing kumbaya with the Islamic world, we see that the left would like for all of us to forget 9/11 and ignore the still-present threat of Islamic terrorism.

No matter how much revisionism is tossed out there for the dhimmis to suck up — even as the Ground Zero Mosque rises above the World Trade Center in New York City on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of 9/11 is used as a fundraiser for that Islamic center.

Never forget what happened on that day of cerulean and cloudless skies — cloudless until the smoke billowed from three sites: the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Shanksville.

Never forget that on this tenth anniversary of 9/11, by order of Mayor Bloomberg, the first responders on that day will be denied admission to the 9/11 National Memorial in New York City. The President has turned the commemoration of 9/11 into a day of community service instead of a solemn commemoration that focuses on the events of that day (Alinsky Rule #6). And a few weeks before 9/11, the Empire State Building was, once again, bathed in the light of Islamic green. Not to mention this inclusion in the 9/11 Memorial in New York City: this hardhat with an Obama symbol on it.

The attack on the Pentagon is all but forgotten in several respects. The official memorial built in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, is a betrayal.

Democrats are expressing growing alarm about President Obama’s re-election prospects and, in interviews, are openly acknowledging anxiety about the White House’s ability to strengthen the president’s standing over the next 14 months.

Elected officials and party leaders at all levels said their worries have intensified as the economy has displayed new signs of weakness. They said the likelihood of a highly competitive 2012 race is increasing as the Republican field, once dismissed by many Democrats as too inexperienced and conservative to pose a serious threat, has started narrowing to two leading candidates, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, who have executive experience and messages built around job creation.

And in a campaign cycle in which Democrats had entertained hopes of reversing losses from last year’s midterm elections, some in the party fear that Mr. Obama’s troubles could reverberate down the ballot into Congressional, state and local races.

My fellow Americans:

The problems we face now here at home and across the globe are in a critical stage. Partisan politics have no place in times like this. And neither do personal agendas.

As it has in the past, the entire world is looking to the United States of America to lead humanity back from the brink of global war and darkness and into the fields of light, peace, and prosperity.

American presidents have always borne this responsibility with humility and courage. And by drawing inspiration from those who have served before me, I have tried to meet these challenges with the same determination and optimism.

But these are different times.

Heightened partisanship and a non-stop 24 hour news cycle dominated by "gotcha" yellow journalism has made statesmanship more difficult than ever - despite the world needing it more than ever.

Partisan posturing has become especially pernicious recently, as we have entered an election cycle. Now, the bipartisan compromises and non-partisan strategies we most need are all but impossible.

I see only one way to erase the partisan divide which is preventing the effective actions our nation - and the world - are crying out for.

And that is why tonight I am announcing that I will not seek a second term.

By removing myself from the partisan political equation I hope to elevate the debate, remove the biggest stumbling block to national unity, and bring the full force of this great and united nation back together again so that together we can meet the challenges we now face.

I could do no less. Personal ambition is meaningless compared to advancing the cause of liberty and prosperity and to protecting the American Dream.

It has been my honor to lead the Democrat party the last three years. I pass that responsibility to others. From this day forward, I have only one job. It is not personal or political. It transcends politics. It is purely humanitarian.

I am sure with this new non-political and non-personal approach members of Congress and I will rise to the occasion - in unified action, as the Congress and past presidents have always done since our nation's founding.

Now, we have one job to do - together: Bind the nation's wounds and roll up our sleeves.

I look forward to it with all my heart, with what wisdom God has given me, and with the courage I get from your support and prayers.

Un-refinance-able global sovereign debt and mortgages seem to be bringing the world financial system closer to collapse, uncontrollably.

The so-called Arab Spring seems to be revealing itself to everyone as a reactionary wave of uncontrollable jihadist violence.

These forces - as Northern Seer suggested in another comment thread - seem like an out of control speeding locomotive about to go off the rails - just as it approaches a dilapidated trestle - spanning a chasm of infinite depth, and there are suicide bombers on board who have also booby-trapped the brakes!

What - if anything - can possibly stop what seems like the inevitable impending economic crash and clash of civilizations? Is there a person anywhere who can stand athwart these twin crises and wrestle the conflicting and destructive forces and impulses and bring us sanity, dignity, peace, prosperity and justice? Or is the impending horror something must we travel through in order to... learn our lesson... once and for all?

More and more it seems like the latter.

And for the second time today, I must cite this:

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Surely the Second Coming is at hand.

I think all we need to do - each of us - is to find once again the courage to defend and employ our first principles.

Like the Maccabees.

Like the Minutemen.

Like the heroes in our current war - from the folks on Flight 93 to the elite members of our Special Forces.

They didn't retreat from their principles despite the odds. All won despite the costs - and in so doing bequeathed us a better world.

Sigh.

If this commitment and courage fails to stop the impending catastrophes, then at the very least they will be what empowers us to rebuild a better world.

Still, I long for a global Judah Maccabee-George Washington-Todd Beamer all rolled up into one to rally us to be our best.

Reagan seemed to have what what it takes:

On the world stage, I think Bibi Netanyahu does. And Geert Wilders. Two enormously brave leaders from two tiny countries barely in control of their own destinies.

No leader in any major nation today has what it takes. There's no Churchill. Not even a Thatcher. No Reagan.
