BRITAIN'S Got Talent star Susan Boyle received the homecoming of her dreams last night as she took to the stage of Glasgow's SECC to rapturous applause.

Dressed in a full-length, silver sequined dress, she sang both Memory from the musical Cats and I Dreamed a Dream. She gave an assured performance, receiving standing ovations throughout both songs, and departed the stage blowing kisses to her thousands of fans. Her performance came after a day of doubts over whether she would perform, having already failed to appear at two performances in Manchester on Sunday. But following last night's performance, members of the audience expressed their delight at the show.

Internet superstar Susan Boyle made a triumphant return to the stage Monday in her Scottish homeland.

The crowd gathered to hear the 48-year-old YouTube sensation quite simply went wild as she took to the stage and sang a soaring version of her famous I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

The plucky Scot put to rest she wasn't up to performing after she missed a gig in Manchester on Sunday.

She dispelled doubts as to whether she would perform in the live tour when she appeared at the opening show in Birmingham on Friday night.

She wowed the crowd with renditions of I Dreamed A Dream from the musical Les Miserables and Memory.

The next day in Sheffield she seemed to stumble over her words as she sang Memory and had provoked a mixed reaction from the audience with several people booing her when her name was announced.

There had been doubts as to whether the now world-famous singer from West Lothian would perform in the Britain's Got Talent live show in Glasgow after pulling out of the event in Manchester.

But the plucky church worker wowed the crowds as she belted out I Dreamed a Dream, the song which made her a global superstar.

Not only did she receive a standing ovation at the end of the performance, the packed concert hall took to their feet as she walked on to stage in a floor-length sparkling dress and twice during her performance, which included Memory from the musical Cats.

Also on Thursday, von Brunn's 32-year-old son, Erik, released a statement to ABC News, condemning his father's beliefs and actions, and decrying the results of his father's shooting attack.

"I cannot express enough how deeply sorry I am it was Mr. Johns, and not my father who lost their life yesterday [Wednesday]," wrote Erik. "It was unjustified and unfair that he died, and while my condolences could never begin to offer appeasement, they, along with my remorse is all I have to give."

Democrats Almost Twice As Likely As Republicans To Blame Jews For The Economy

The Boston Review has published a new scholarly study title: "State of the Nation: Anti-Semitism and the Economic Crisis." The study was conducted by two university professors, Neil Malhotra and Yotam Margalit. The study indicates that despite all of the caterwauling about "right-wing" anti-Semitism in light of the Holocaust Museum shooting, it is those on the left who are more likely to blame Jews for the current economic crisis.

Interestingly, Democrats were especially prone to blaming Jews: while 32 percent of Democrats accorded at least moderate blame, only 18.4 percent of Republicans did so (a statistically significant difference). This difference is somewhat surprising given the presumed higher degree of racial tolerance among liberals and the fact that Jews are a central part of the Democratic Party’s electoral coalition.

The president pandered to Muslims: praised their accomplishments, commiserated with their grievances, and apologized for injustices done to them by centuries of colonialism -- without once mentioning the history of rampant and violent Arab colonialism.

He avoided any mention of Jihadi tenets, or of the Islamic political ideology of supremacy over non Muslims -- principles embedded in Sharia law. These are taught and sanctioned openly by Al-Azhar, the university that hosted him, the foremost center of Sharia studies.

Obama underscored the supposed American mistreatment of terrorists and apologized for torture in Guantanamo, forgetting that Islamic regimes are brutal to their own people. The president also repudiated significant U.S. contributions in both the lives of its soldiers and humanitarian aid to Muslims across the globe made throughout history -- despite Muslim attacks against America and Americans.

In short, parts of his speech sounded like a new Pan-Arab messiah come to usher the Arab world back into its rightful world dominion.

Most disturbing was the president’s call to defend Muslims against negative stereotypes. A dangerous precedent is set when freedom of speech is silenced and ideological criticism forbidden. This, again, is the stuff of nightmarish totalitarian regimes.

The beauty of the US Constitution is its balance, and the wisdom it embraces by distinguishing between that which should be protected and defended and that which should be prosecuted and decried. Encouraging laws to make criticism of Islam an offense punishable by law is troubling.

... To the question I received on my e-mail; “Who should we believe, Obama or you?” I elaborated to my Moroccan reader that Obama is a politician who wishes to use sweet talk and to whitewash reality to make amends with Muslims.

I, on the other hand am a pragmatic Arab woman who escaped the prison of Islam to the free world and now devotes her life to expressing views freely and pressing for a genuine difference in Islam. We cannot have it both ways. Intolerance never tolerates freedom.

Outraged supporters of the moderate candidate, Mir Hussein Mousavi, who claimed his defeat in the Iranian election at the hands of hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was manipulated, took to the streets of Tehran again today raising the prospect of more violent clashes.

With temperatures at 35C , the situation in the Iranian capital threatened to reach boiling point as special forces in riot gear chased protesters through side streets near Fatemi Square. In a sign of the anger among Mousavi's supporters, they chanted "the president is committing a crime and the supreme leader is supporting him", highly inflammatory language in a regime where the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, is considered irreproachable.

Crowds also gathered outside Mousavi's headquarters but there was no sign of Ahmadinejad's chief political rival, who is rumoured to be under house arrest. Supporters waved their fists and chanted anti-Ahmadinejad slogans.

Iranian presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi was reportedly arrested Saturday following the reformist's defeat at the polls by hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Supporters of Mousavi, the main challenger to Ahmadinejad, have responded to the election with the most serious unrest in Tehran in a decade and claim that the result was the work of a dictatorship.

There have been a number of contradictory reports from Iran, in large part due to the heavy restrictions imposed on the media in the Islamic Republic and in particular on foreign reporters.

Hezbollah and its allies will not join a new Lebanese government unless they have veto power over its decisions, a leading Christian member of their alliance said yesterday.

Suleiman Franjieh said that without veto power it would be better to stay in opposition than to join the new government, which is almost certain to be led by a rival US-backed coalition that won a parliamentary election on Sunday.

“Let them rule and take the whole government, but without us as bystanders in it,” Franjieh told Reuters in an interview. “We will not hold things up. But we will refuse to join the government,” added Franjieh, whose Marada movement won three of parliament’s 128 seats in the election.

Hezbollah and its allies have veto power in the current cabinet, which was formed last year as part of a deal that defused a power struggle with the rival coalition headed by Saad Al Hariri. The Sunni politician is seen as a frontrunner to head the next cabinet.

Veto power was given to the Iran- and Syria-backed Hezbollah and its allies, including Christian politician Michel Aoun, in last year’s deal by allocating them 11 of 30 cabinet seats.

“Any formulation not including the third-plus-one is rejected by the opposition. Without the third, the opposition will not participate in the government,” Franjieh said, adding that his statement reflected the opposition’s position.
