FEDERAL-POSTAL COALITION REQUESTS SPECIAL TREATMENT

From the National Journal, on November 21, 2012:

The Federal-Postal Coalition -- a group representing more than two dozen federal employee unions -- pleaded with Congress on Monday to spare their members in any deal related to the "fiscal cliff."

Federal workers, the coalition wrote in a letter, have contributed more than their fair share toward reducing the debt and are the only group that has been targeted so heavily.

“Federal and postal employees and their families are hardworking, middle-class Americans who are struggling during these tough times just like other Americans,” the group wrote. “No other group has been asked to financially contribute the way they have, and it is time our nation’s leaders found other ways to reduce the deficit than continually taking from those who have dedicated their lives to public service.”...

Oligarchy and the Nanny State are in full bloom.

Weep for America.

Weep for the American taxpayer.

DELPHI AND OBAMA LAND

As the daughter of a mechanic and the wife of a retired mechanic/automotive-parts worker, I have known about garage matters all my life. In fact, I recall seeing boxes with the label "Delphi" on them in my father's garage. Therefore, this story caught my eye:

...When the Obama administration commandeered the bankruptcy process, it invited GM and UAW representatives to the negotiating table. But it left out Delphi’s salaried retirees. The upshot was that the UAW retirees got their full pension and health care benefits. But the benefits of 21,000 Delphi retirees – who had often worked right next to their UAW peers – were determined as per a Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) formula. Hence, some of them lost up to 70 percent of their pensions and all of their life and health insurance. Bruce Gump, a representative of the Delphi Retirees Association, testified before Congress last year that the Treasury could have covered 93 percent of the benefits of all employees for the same amount that it spent on full union benefits.

What all of this shows is that some workers are more equal than others in Obama Land.

Delphi is a leading global supplier for the automotive, computing, communications, energy, and consumer accessories markets and a sponsor of NASCAR.

UNIONS TRYING TO HOLD TAXPAYERS HOSTAGE

...The unions have broken Wisconsin, New York, Ohio, New Jersey, and California, to name a few. It is time to rein in the unions and save our states.

Okay, that statement is obvious to any thinking person. But the following snippet is of critical importance and heartening:

The Reagan you are looking for is sitting in Republican governorships, not in Washington.

Reining in the federal government must begin at the state level.

Go back to America's founding principles:

...America was to be ruled by law, not by individuals...

Along those same lines, America was NOT to be ruled by mobs.

Obama and the Democratic Party are doing all they can to evade and defile our founding principles. Thuggery and treason!

Due to its lax illegal immigration policies and easy access to welfare -- factors that indisputably increase crime rates -- California now spends more on its prisons than on the entire 10-campus University of California system.

In 2001, California spent $680 million on medical services for its prisoners.

In 2004, California spent in excess of $1 billion for prisoners' health care services.

Last year, California spent $3 billion on health care for its prisoners.

In other words, over the last eight years, health care costs for California's single-payer prison system have more than quadrupled.

In a June speech, President Obama justified a government takeover of the entire health care system with an observation on rising costs. He stated, "...more and more Americans are forced to worry about not just getting well, but whether they can afford to get well. Millions more wonder if they can afford the routine care necessary to stay well. Even for those who have health insurance, rising premiums are straining family budgets to the breaking point—premiums that have doubled over the last nine years..."

Compare and contrast: over the last eight years, costs for California's single-payer prison health care system -- controlled by Democrats for decades and heavily laced with unions at every level of government -- have increased more than four times.

The costs of premiums for the private health care system -- with all of its innovation and access to the latest drugs, diagnostic tests, advanced equipment and research, have only doubled in nine years.

Government can't possibly run things better than the free market. And California's prison health care system is just a microcosm of what we can expect.

And something else for seniors to consider: the costs for their care will compete with the health care costs of the federal prison system. And, if California is any indication, the prisoners' medical needs may come before seniors. There's only so much of taxpayers' money to go around.

Things Are ‘Stormy’ When Labor Strikes Hit Enid

Lightning strikes are unpredictable. Labor union strikes…not so much. Both, however, can be damaging.

When I was growing up in Enid, Okla., a small northwest Oklahoma town of 47,000, lightning was a normal part of life, especially in the spring. Labor strikes, on the other hand, happened only on very rare occasions. Why? Because the area’s largest employer was — and still is — Vance Air Force Base.

Today, however, I learned that conditions in Enid are much like they are in many locations across the United States...click here for details.

‘Card Check’ Editorial Cartoon Dubbed ‘Brilliant’

There I was, in a Grand Junction, Colo., hotel room killing time while waiting for the my trip-related activities (see BMW Visiting Western Colorado’s Piceance Basin for details) to begin this afternoon, when I came across the latest editorial effort by Michael at My Personal Litmus. While he calls it “People’s Propaganda #4,” I call it brilliant!

The cartoon features President Barack Obama in a soldier’s uniform with a rifle slung over his shoulder, the red star of communism on his cap and a union membership card held high above the words, CARD CHECK IS GOOD FOR AMERICA. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth.
