DENMARK LIMITS FREE SPEECH!?!?

A 27 year old student, Caspar Lodberg, was arrested for greeting Queen Margaret upon her arrival in Ærøskøbing Harbor with a banner upon which was written:

"Down With The Monarchy".

The police claim he was behaving in an "aggressive" manor. He was released after 3 hours detention.

I suppose when it comes to Denmark's richest welfare family free speech is not so welcome.

Hacking Sarah's Personal Email

The Lefty site "Gawker" is at it again (but of course, these guys have nothing to do with the Obama campaign...)--which begs the question: isn't the Left supposedly all about the "right to privacy"?

Michelle Malkin has two good posts about this, an initial post and a follow up describing in detail how the hack went down--and how they got caught.

The hackers themselves may or may not have had a political agenda--but Gawker certainly does; I hope they throw away the key... for all involved.

(Brought to you by the same ideology that brought you The Lives of Others...)

UPDATE: Glenn Reynolds twists the knife:

THEY TOLD ME THAT IF GEORGE W. BUSH WERE RE-ELECTED, no one's email would be safe from the prying of jackbooted thugs motivated by politics, not national security. And they were right!

I emailed Nick Denton about this, and he replied: "We didn't publish Bristol's phone number. (Tho we did call it. And we did publish shrunk screenshots of the emails.) You know also that we'd have no hesitation in publishing similar info about Obama or Biden. If we're sleazebags, we're equal-opportunity sleazebags." I like Nick, but this was not Gawker's finest hour.

UPDATE: Reader Rahul Banta writes: "Maybe this is why John McCain doesn't use email?!" That would be smart.

NYTIMES IN 2003: BUSH PROPOSED TIGHTENING OVERSIGHT OF FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC - THE DEMOCRATS OF CONGRESS BLOCKED IT

SEEING IS BELIEVING:

September 11, 2003
New Agency Proposed to Oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt -- is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.

... Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

''I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,'' Mr. Watt said.

THE ENTIRE CRISIS IS THE FAULT OF THE DEMOCRATS OF CONGRESS.

VOTE ACCORDINGLY.

MALIKI REVEALS AN OBAMA BOMBSHELL!

"EEETZ OHNLEE DEES BEEG!"

*******UPDATE: The Obama Campaign claims Maliki was mis-translated, and was describing WIDTH.

There's only one way to be sure.

And I think Obama should do it, appropriately enough - on THE VIEW.

EUROPE'S BURSTING HOUSING BUBBLES PROVE THAT THE DEMOCRAT'S "BLAME BUSH" CHARGE IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG

  • OBAMA SAID THAT BUSH'S ACROSS-THE-BOARD TAX CUTS ARE TO BLAME.
HOGWASH.
  • BUSH GAVE NO TAX CUTS TO EUROPEANS, AND YET MUCH OF EUROPE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING THE PAIN OF THE SAME BUBBLE BURSTING.
  • YUP: THE SAME PAIN - EVEN THOUGH MOST OF EUROPE IS MUCH MORE SOCIALISTIC THAN THE USA.

    LOOK AT THE FACTS YOURSELF:

House prices in Spain (March 2006 – March 2007)
  • –Source Spanish Ministry of Housing

House prices in UK – Source Halifax

SO WHO OR WHAT IS TO BLAME?
  • SIMPLE: THE INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL COMMUNITY WAS RECKLESS.
  • SADLY, YEARS AGO BOTH BUSH AND MCCAIN PROPOSED TIGHTENING REGULATIONS AND OVERSIGHT ON THE MORTGAGE FINANCING INDUSTRY IN THE USA - SPECIFICALLY TO AVOID THE DANGERS OF THIS RECKLESSNESS.
  • IT WAS BLOCKED BY THE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS.

OUR BI-POLAR STOCK MARKETS

The recent real estate and oil bubbles and the current panic-drive correction prove one thing: Investors have gone BI-POLAR!

Panics are the flip side of bubbles.

The bubble is the mania and the panic is the depression.

Both are a more than bit off from REALITY.

Let this post be your reality check.

Here's how it really is: Investors are selling stocks and buying gold and T-Bills because they are hedging their bets; it's a flight to safety.

The people buying stock from these panicky investors are NOT THE DUMMIES; the people buying into the market now are getting the BARGAINS.

When the mob is selling, that's when it's time FOR THE SMART INVESTOR to buy.

Wachovia is reportedly now trying to buy Morgan - because the panic has made Morgan stock cheap. ******UPDATE: YUP: THE SMART PEOPLE ARE BUYING:
The British mortgage lender HBOS said on Wednesday that it was in talks to be acquired by the Lloyds TSB Group after shares of HBOS collapsed this month on concerns that it might fail.

Lloyds, a bank based in London that is looking for ways to expand its mortgage business, envisions a purchase of HBOS as a way to profit from the falling valuations of financial services firms.

HBOS has lost about 43 percent of its market value over the last month, and its shares are now worth £7.7 billion ($13.9 billion). HBOS shares fell 19 percent, to £1.47, in London on Wednesday. The shares had been off as much as 52 percent earlier in the day before Lloyds made its interest known.
Today, gold went up by the largest amount ever in one day. Which means YESTERDAY was the time to buy, not tomorrow.

SO... if you have stocks: be patient! Look for equity bargains in the stock market and don't follow the stampede.

It's not like other stock markets around the globe - or other financial centers - are doing better at our expense. It's a global sell off. And actually, other countries aren't doing as well.

The sub-prime financial fiasco is a manageable crisis - especially over the long haul, which is how one MUST look at real estate investment.

And despite today's gusher upward, the barrel price of oil will be steadily coming down over the new several weeks and few months - to about $65-$75.

This decrease will do more people and more businesses more good than are hurt by the problems in the financial sector.

SO DON'T PANIC.

NOTE: It would be nice if the Democrats stopped talking as if this was the result of Bush and as if the entire US economy was fundamentally bad.

This constant negative talk makes things worse by feeding the panic.

IOW: HEY DEMS: STFU!

MORE PROOF THAT OBAMA IS NOT AN AMERICAN FIRSTER

  • IN SAN FRANCISCO, OBAMA REFERED TO AMERICANS AS A "THEM" - WHICH HE IS NOT A PART OF, AND NOT AS AN "US" WHICH HE IS A PART OF. (THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF MCCAIN!)
TODAY, WE OFFER AS MORE EVIDENCE A SNIPPET FROM HIS CAMPAIGN SPEECH IN BERLIN:
“I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before, although tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for president, but as a citizen — a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world,”
"CITIZEN OF THE WORLD" IS A PHRASE THAT SHOULD MAKE ALL PATRIOTS EVERYWHERE SICK - WHETHER YOU'RE AN AMERICAN OF A SCOT OR A DANE.
  • IT SIGNIFIES THE SAME MUTLICULTURALIST IMPULSE THAT'S DRIVING EUROPE INTO THE ABOMINABLE EUSSR.
  • THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS SUPPOSED TO BE SOMEONE WHO WOULD ALWAYS PUT OUR NATION AND OUR CONSTITUTION FIRST.
  • IT'S THE OATH OF OFFICE.
  • I THINK OBAMA'S LANGUAGE PROVES THAT HE CAN'T HONESTLY TAKE THAT OATH.
  • ALL OF HIS LANGUAGE INDICATES THAT HIS ALLEGIANCE IS ELSEWHERE: TO THE WORLD, TO SOCIALISM... WHATEVER.
VOTE ACCORDINGLY.

SHOCKING DHIMMITUDE FROM SPAIN'S SOCIALIST PM ZAPATERO

VIA HYSCIENCE:
Rodríguez Zapatero, a so committed laicist that he provoked uneasiness in the Vatican when he refused to attend the Pope's Mass in Valencia in July 2007, thanked Erdogan [TURKEY'S ISLAMIST PM] because of his "hospitality" and stated before nearly 2.500 people attending the banquet his will to enjoy of the celebration not as a "foreigner, but with the attitude of someone who is President of Spain, a country which is proud of the influence of Islam in our history and of its rich legacy in our language and in our artistic heritage".
THIS IS TRULY A SICKENING DISPLAY OF POSTMODERN LEFTISM.

THE TRUE LEGACY OF ISLAM IN SPAIN AND EVERYWHERE ELSE IS GENOCIDE, MISOGYNY, IGNORANCE AND SERFDOM.

IN 2005, THE DEMOCRATS OF CONGRESS BLOCKED A MCCAIN REFORM BILL WHICH WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE CURRENT FINANCIAL CRISIS

PROOF THAT THE CRISIS IS THE DEMOCRAT'S FAULT. (AND NOT DUE TO BUSH TAX CUTS.)

THE CHIC DEGNERATI OF HOLLYWOOD MAKE ANOTHER BAD INVESTMENT - THIS TIME IN OBAMA

HOLLYWOOD'S CHIC DEGENERATI SEEM TO LIKE TO MAKE IDIOTIC INVESTMENTS: LIKE THEIR INVESTMENTS IN SEVERAL AWFUL ANTI-AMERICAN WAR MOVIES WHICH ALL BOMBED AT THE BOX OFFICE, AND BARRY OBAMA.

SO HOW MANY KADIMA MEMBERS CAME OUT TO VOTE IN THE PRIMARY SO FAR?

As of 8:30 in this time zone, 40 percent of registered members eligible to vote came out:
Kadima's Central Elections Committee postponed the closing of election booths by half an hour on Wednesday evening following a request made by party leader candidate and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni's campaign because of a low turnout rate.

The committee had initially extended the voting period by an hour, but a petition filed immediately after the committee authorized Livni's request by Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, also running for candidacy, caused the committee to reconsider its decision.

The polling stations were originally scheduled to close at 10 p.m., after 12 hours of operation. By 8:30 p.m., nearly 40% of Kadima members had cast their votes.
Gee, that's low, I'd say. Even Labor's own primaries usually got higher turnout than they did within that amount of time.

Update: the exit polls were announced, and who won? Tzipi Livni.

I want to make perfectly clear here that she is no Sarah Palin. She's probably closer to Hilary Clinton. Therefore, don't think even for a second that Livni can help anything.

About the Situation on Wall Street

Quite a few good articles on different aspects of the big crashes. An excerpt from this one: "What makes me laugh - ruefully, I assure you - is when our office seekers trot around the country promising "accountability" for Wall Street. Lehman just went bankrupt - in a market economy, things don't get more "accountable" than that. What everyone wants to know is how serious the current situation is. Step back from the ledge, and for goodness sakes ignore Senator Obama's ignorant hysterics. What we have now is a market correction. Firms that made poor decisions are being devoured by the market's unforgiving nature. Today the Dow is steady, the American economy having easily withstood the shock of the weekend's events.

Another good comment here. It starts: "Democrats have spent more time investigating Sarah Palin than they have the crooks in their own party who are responsible for the financial crisis!"

Another comment includes this excerpt: "Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were run by Clinton cronies who received millions of dollars from the organizations. Democrats were in bed with these companies and refused to listen to George Bush when, in 2003, he "recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago"

My comment: It all started out with the Democrats pressing the banks to lend to blacks -- regardless of whether the blacks looked like good risks or not. The banks did as they were told and passed on the risks to the financial sector generally. The result was entirely predictable.

Democrats feel at home at home in fantasyland

Ted Nugent doesn't like Hollywood pinheads and is rather fond of Sarah Palin. He delivers a nice slap at simpleton Matt Damon and his idiotic statements last week.
Anyone who has watched Ted Nugent appear on talk shows over the years knows he can deliver a punch when he deems it necessary. In an email exchange The Vote had with Nugent this morning, the rock star starts off diplomatic. "To be concerned is prudent, but his references are without merit," Nugent wrote. "Her record in politics proves she is a tough woman of intellect, logic, common sense, integrity and defying courage. Theoretically, Matt's concerns would better be aimed at and earned by Barack Obama."

Nugent had high praise for the Republican vice presidential nominee, who - like Nugent - is an avid hunter. "I like her a lot," he said. "I have examined her record and she is my kind of elected official. She may very well be the best Republican in America today." ...

Nugent, an outspoken conservative, is a minority in the entertainment community. When asked why the celebrity crowd seems to better connect with the Democratic party, Nugent becomes the Nugent you know on TV - unfiltered.
"With all due respect, many in the entertainment industry are deep into mind-altering substance abuse, and when one's logic and intellectual calculating powers are replaced with dopey feel-good, fantasy-driven denial, the democratic party serves them well," Nugent blasted.

Ouch. Speaking of Hollywood celebutards, John McCain delivered his own slap at Obama and Barbra Streisand today.
"He says he's siding with the people just before he flew off for a fundraiser in Hollywood with Barbra Streisand," McCain said of his rival. "Let me tell you my friends, there's no place I'd rather be than right here with the working men and women of Ohio."

McCain used the line as his close at an airport hangar rally, drawing loud applause.

Pelosi's "Drilling" Farce; is McCain (or Bush) really dumb enough to get sucked in?

We may be arriving at a crossroads of this race: if John McCain and President Bush are stupid enough to back the complete farce of an energy bill that Nancy Pelosi is peddling--it could kill all the good that Palin has done for him to date:
Want to see some of McCain's Newfound Support Melt Away?

Just have him support the gang of 20's energy compromise. Why? Because it is a sham when it comes to that is directly opposed to his stated belief (drilling in all of the OCS) and it is loaded with what he says he opposes (wasteful spending):
The bill would open up a tiny little smidgen of space on the Outer Continental Shelf for oil and gas exploration — just enough that Democrats who vote for it can claim to be pro-drilling, neutralizing one of the Republicans’ most energizing issues going into the November elections. But the benefits of the bill’s meager drilling provisions would be negated (and then some) by $30 billion in tax hikes on U.S. oil companies, placing our own domestic producers at an additional disadvantage compared to their overseas competitors. In exchange for very little new supply, these companies would pay higher taxes related to the crucial activities of exploration and refinery-capacity expansion. To nobody’s great surprise, the industry is not eager to accept this trade.

The money raised by taxing U.S. oil companies would go to pay for $84 billion in new spending on dodgy renewable energy projects — mostly tax credits for hybrid cars and research grants for biofuel production. If you want to know how much of an impact this multi-billion-dollar giveaway for special interests is likely to have on gasoline prices, consider this: Since 2005, Congress has passed two energy bills chock full of subsidies for renewable energy, and gas prices have increased nearly $1.50 per gallon.
This is not what anyone but this crew means when they say "drill here, drill now". If John McCain supports it he will be rightfully called a flip-flopper. He'll have flipped on supporting opening the entire OCS for exploration and flopped in his pledge to oppose bills with wasteful spending.

Rumor has it he's thinking about supporting it.

If that's the case, 10 Sarah Palin's won't be able to save him from his own actions.
It it mind-boggling to believe that McCain or Bush would fall for this; but then again I didn't expect the Feds to bail out AIG either...

Haystack has some good advice for the House Republicans too; they should follow it (emphasis mine):

I offered the House GOP a challenge a month ago today. Of course, being a nobody, no one in the House GOP actually got back to me...but hey-I'm not sensitive. Now that Congress is back in session, however, this deserves another shout out. Consider Congressman Pence today at Redstate and his urging that we all contact the Democrats and tell them to vote "NO" on Speaker Pelosi’s energy bill.

See, here's the thing GOP Congress critters...

I don't want you THERE at all.

More below the "we're begging you guys" fold... .

Stage a walk out, a work-stoppage, a strike if you will...in the name of the American taxpayers that pay your salaries. If you force Congress to shut down due to a failure to reach a quorum, the ban will be lifted with NO help from the Democrats. I WANT to pay you to not go to work until Oct. 2, 2008. Do you have it in you?

No one has to sign their name to any bills that might endanger their re-election chances. No one will be held accountable, and no one will be blamed...except the Speaker, Nancy Pelosi...and no one will hold it against you. It worked in Texas over the re-districting fiasco... Heck, you'll even help McCain by not forcing him to side with the gang of [fill in the blank pandering parade] disaster.

As I said a month ago, do it, and do it now.

Congressional inaction has gone on for two years now. While you have been on the clock you have accomplished nothing meaningful that addresses the needs of "we, the People." Here is your chance to actually DO something meaningful by actually doing nothing at all. You failed us on spending. You failed us on Iraq, and on entitlements and a whole host of other issues we told you were critical when we elected you. Here's your chance to actually DO something we need, critically, by not showing up for work. There's little difference either way, at this point, and you'll actually be doing our bidding for once...and doing yourselves a huge favor. For the first time in your lives let your inaction actually WORK for the American people - go on strike.

Do not return to session until the ban expires.

OBAMA AND BIDEN ARE LOSING BECAUSE THEY'RE THE VISITING TEAM: OBAMA REFERS TO "AMERICANS" IN THE THIRD PERSON PLURAL

In this year's presidential contest, the McCain-Palin are the home team and the Obama-Biden are the visitors.

That's why we're ahead: we Americans always root for our home team.

PROOF POSITIVE THAT OBAMA IS ON THE VISITING TEAM: OBAMA TALKS ABOUT AMERICANS AS IF HE WASN'T ONE OF US:
The one thing that I want to insist on is that, as I travel around the country, the American people are a decent people.

Now they get confused sometimes.

You know, they listen to the wrong talk radio shows or watch the wrong TV networks, um, but they’re, they’re basically decent, they’re basically sound.
PROOF POSITIVE THAT MCCAIN PALIN IS THE HOME TEAM:

Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier. Because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself.

I’m going to fight for my cause every day as your president. I’m going to fight to make sure every American has every reason to thank God, as I thank Him: that I’m an American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith, and a little courage, great things are always within our reach. Fight with me. Fight with me.

Fight for what’s right for our country. Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.Fight for our children’s future. Fight for justice and opportunity for all. Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.

Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We’re Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.

OBAMA'S "DISTANCIATION" FROM US AMERICANS IS NOT MERELY RHETORICAL; IT'S THE LEFTIST MINDSET: THEY'RE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF MOST ISSUES THAT WE AMERICANS CARE ABOUT:

Guns - most of us would like to keep our right to have one.

War - most of us like to win them.

Energy - most of us would like to by domestic.

Taxes - most of us want to pay less.

Healthcare - most of us want to earn enough to buy a good PRIVATE plan of our own.

Classless society - most of us don't want to get ahead at someone else's expense; we want to earn it.

Classless Society - most of us shop at Wal-Mart not Barney's.

Classless Society - most of us aren't as impressed with college degrees as we are with REAL accomplishments that take REAL sacrifice -- like building a own business a home or being a veteran.

Lawyers & Politicians and Smooth-talkers - most of us don't like 'em and don't trust 'em.

Patriotism - most of us don't give a hoot who Europe or the UN likes or what they want. Don't even ask us about Iran!

MAYBE OBAMA-BIDEN COULD CARRY EUROPE, THE UN AND COLLEGE CAMPUSES, BUT IN THE US OF A: THEY ARE AT AN DISTINCT DISADVANTAGE: WE AMERICANS WANT TO ELECT A HERO OF OUR OWN.

THANK GOD.

Google's "Help Obama" campaign

Heh! I have thought of an amusing response to Google's harassment of my Obama blog. I have moved it not to another platform but to another blogspot address! It is now at http://dumbama.blogspot.com.

I call it DUMBama in reference to the fact that all Obababy seems able to do is spout Leftist boilerplate in a nice voice.

Google will probably delete the old blog once I cease making requests to remove the spam flagging but that hardly matters. Being a cautious old conservative, I already have duplicate archives online elsewhere -- e.g. here.

PALIN IS THE MOST POPULAR GOVERNOR IN AMERICA FOR A GOOD REASON

Palin is the most popular governor in the USA.

Those who know her best like her the most.

Can anyone anywhere name any other governor with an 85% approval rating?

While I'm asking questions, can anyone anywhere name another governor who cut federal budget requests in half?

Or who blew the whistle on big-shots in their own party?

Or beat the crap out of Big Oil - or the biggest industry in THEIR state!??

You cannot.

Sarah Plain is unique.

Far from being the fluffy airhead the MSM/DEMOCRATS want you believe, she is a fearless public servant who delivers for the people.

She is quite simply the MOST EFFECTIVE GOVERNOR IN THE USA.

She has done more for Alaska in two years than Clinton did for Arkansas in a decade!

She will shake things up in DC.

And always be on OUR side.

Ignore the propaganda.

The people of Alaska are right: she's GREAT at governance.

She tested and known public servant of the highest order.

IF YOU WANT SOMEONE WHO'S A FOREIGN POLICY WONK THEN VOTE FOR THE STATE DEPARTMENTS PRESS ATTACHE.

If you want a Veep who will work hard to make the federal government accountable - then support McCain-Palin.

CARBON, CALORIES AND PENCILS: PROOF THE "GREEN ECONOMY" IS A HOAX

Leftie "do-gooders" AKA "LIBERAL FASCISTS" like Tom Friedman and Barry Obama want to create an "green economy" to save the world from AGW. Obama says he will create HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of GREEN COLLAR JOBS. Friedman says it's the next economic revolution - if I.T. was he last, then he dubs this one E.T for environmental technology. He even joked to Brokaw on MTP that he's like it if the USA were a totalitarian state like China for a day so he and the other left-wing do-gooder elitists - AKA LIBERAL FASCISTS - could pass by fiat all the laws they need to to bring this about. (I guess Tommie Friedman envisions himself or Barry Obama as as sort of like a GREEN CHAVEZ.)

Well, too bad for Friedman and Obama we are not like China and they are not yet Chavez. Too bad for them - BUT LUCKY FOR THE REST OF US.

Here's why: even if they were right about AGW and CO2 - (which they are NOT!) - their policies wouldn't work. It's UNIVERSALLY acknowledged that Kyoto would have been a failure even if the entire world had joined in. The goals were never met by the nations which signed on, and even if they had, CO2 wouldn't have come don't one itsy bitsy teeny weeny bit.

OKAY: IT WOULD HAVE CONE DOWN A TEENY WEENY, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE GLOBAL CLIMATE.

I think an analogy would best illustrate the idiocy of the AGW crowd's concept of a GREEN ECONOMY.

Instead of AGW and CARBON, let's say these LIBERAL FASCISTS were to solve another big problem: obesity and heart disease. A NOBLE CAUSE! And unlike global warming (which has killed no one!), this actually kills millions of people every year.

To "do-good", these LIBERAL FASCIST would get together and pass higher taxes on fattier foods, and mandate maximum calorie input per person. Everybody would be forced to eat a "healthy diet" and nobody who was fat would be allowed dessert. Calories would have to appear on every food bill and each person's grand total of calories and fat - THEIR "FAT FOOTPRINT" (YES: A PLAY ON "CARBON FOOTPRINT").

NOBODY WOULD BE ALLOWED TO EAT MORE THAN WOULD BE HEALTHY FOR THEM.

To make sure everyone obeys the law, the feds would hire millions of FAT FOOD COPS who would enforce the law.

These job would be like the GREEN COLLAR jobs Barry Obama wants to create.

NOW... are you beginning to see how totally effin idiotic this whole approach is!?!?

Its goes against our individual liberty - to eat as we damn please - and the free market. It creates a more powerful state - and costly one, and an artificial economy that has no basis in the real world.

AND I THINK THAT THIS IS CENTRAL: it's ARTIFICIAL because it's not based on the free choice of free people; it's IMPOSED.

Absent the imposition the value collapses, hence it is really a FALSE VALUE. Empty. Worthless. And that's why the whole edifice built upon it will have to collapse.

As the USSR did.

That's why socialism - in carbon or calories - is never the most efficient way to do anything. From pencils to carbon to calories. The MOST EFFICIENT and ONLY TRUE way to ascribe value to a good or service is to let free people do it in a free market. MILTON FRIEDMAN - (THE SMART FRIEDMAN!) - PROVED THIS WITH PENCILS:

MILTON FRIEDMAN PROVED THAT TOM FRIEDMAN AND BARRY OBAMA AND KARL MARX ARE WRONG.

The leftist way violates our basic nature and the market place which is based on that basic nature, AND it artificially and inefficiently and oft time incorrectly ascribes value.

Marx thought he would get around this because Marx thought his leftist elitists would create THE NEW MAN.

They failed.

We are who we are.

And freedom is our essence.

Those who seek to limit it - FOR OUR OWN GOOD - are doomed to failure.

And rightly so.
VOTE ACCORDINGLY.

THE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS CAUSED BOTH OF OUR MAJOR CRISES - THE SUB-PRIME FIASCO AND THE ENERGY CRUNCH

OUR THREE MAJOR CRISES are the the energy crunch, the sub-prime fiasco, and the Iraq War.

The Iraq War is going very well in large part because of the Surge. The Surge was supported by the GOP in Congress and narrowly passed.

If the Democrats in Congress had gotten their way - and followed the advice of Obama - then the Surge would have never occurred and we would have lost Iraq to Iran and al Qaeda.

On the other two fronts the Democrats got their way - WITH DISASTROUS RESULTS.

YES: the energy crunch and the sub-prime fiasco are both ALL the fault of the Democrats in Congress.

The entire economic crunch could have been avoided if Congress had passed Bush's Energy Policy, BUT THE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS KILLED IT.

HERE'S PROOF:

1 - The Energy Crunch:

In 2001 - BEFORE 9/11 - Bush proposed an new energy policy for the USA, one which emphasized EXPANDING SUPPLIES. Bush proposed this after Cheney developed the plan. Their main concern was INCREASING SUPPLY. They were focused on supply because of the California Energy Crisis the year before. Cheney and Bush developed a good plan. But the Daschel led Democrat Senate killed it.

If it had been enacted then domestic supplies of all energy sources would have been BUILDING since 2002. And we might not have been subjected to the recent SPIKE or OIL BUBBLE at all, and we certainly would be paying less for energy overall, and we would certainly be paying less to foreign suppliers.

BUT THE DEMOCRATS KILLED IT, AND AS A RESULT THE ENERGY CRUNCH IS THEIR FAULT.

SOURCES HERE AND HERE.

2 - THE SUB-PRIME FIASCO IN A NUTSHELL

The current financial crisis was caused almost entirely by the sub-prime fiasco. The sub-prime explosion caused a real estate bubble - because UNSCRUPULOUS speculators took advantage of LOOSENED LENDING PRACTICES (no money down, no credit check) to buy spec homes they otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford.

When the bubble burst - (because these bubbles depend upon a bigger fool coming along to pay more than you did, and the market was simply OVERBUILT according to real housing needs and real people looking to buy a home they'd actually live in!) - these speculators bailed out; this was easy because they had made no down payment - they weren't vested in the home; they simply left the mortgage lender holding the bag.

Only the original mortgage lender no longer held the paper. It had been bundled into a derivative and resold to someone else at a discount. And this new holder had no idea really which of the mortgages In the bundle were good and real and which were bad. And when the bubble burst NOBODY WANTED TO OWN THESE DERIVATIVES. They became WORTHLESS OVERNIGHT.

Lehman and Countrywide and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and Indymacbank and Merrill owned A LOT OF THESE DERIVATIVES. So they collapsed; (Countrywide and Merrill were lucky to be bought at a HUGE discount; the other went bell yup).

AIG has a division which insured these derivatives. And that's the only reason they're in trouble (NYTIMES):
Most of A.I.G,'s businesses, including a dizzying array of insurance companies, an aircraft leasing business and an automotive unit, are healthy. But its financial products unit in London, which underwrote derivatives insuring mortgage-linked securities, threatens to drain cash faster than temporary financing can be arranged.
ALL THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF CONGRESS PASSED BUSH'S FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT BILL, BUT THE DEMOCRATS KILLED IT.

[THE ABOVE LINK GOES TON HOT AIR, CONTEMPORANEOUS REPORTING ON BUSH'S FINANCIAL PLAN IN THE NYTIMES, AND AN ARTICLE BY DR. JOHN LOTT PUBLISHED SIX MONTHS AGO - BEFORE THE CRISIS CAME TO A HEAD.]

The Democrats are in full denial mode
, but the proof is incontrovertible: THE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS DIRECTLY CAUSED THE TWO BIGGEST CRISES THE NATION NOW FACES.

VOTE ACCORDINGLY.

Joe McCain (younger brother) reports

(A true conservative: A man with a sense of humor rather a sense of grievance or a sense of superiority)

Here is a titbit for you. I am sure you all heard the quip vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin made before the assembled multitudes at the Republican convention in Minnysooda last week. "You know the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull?" she asked. Then she did a nice take, paused, pointed to her mouth without changing expression: "Lipstick." Biggest laugh of the night. Maybe of the convention, though former senator Fred Thompson had them reaching for their inhalers the night before.

The titbit? That line was not in her speech. She stuck it in there when mentioning her start in politics as a hockey mom joining the parent-teacher association. It seems that she had told that joke a couple of times in Alaska when people called her a soccer mom. She wanted to point out the subtle differences between a sport where boys in shorts kick around a nice black-and-white ball versus guys wearing more armour than medieval swordslingers going at each other with hardwood sticks tipped with a hooked blade.

In fact she went off book so much, and so far, that the teleprompter operator went half mad trying to find out where he had messed up: national convention teleprompter operators who get lost are sometimes hanged from the rafters by irate speakers ... er ... readers. Finally, just before taking his cyanide capsule, he realised his text and her speech had the similarity of Saturn and a lawn chair, so I hear he just turned it off.

To Republicans, Palin, the little known Governor from big Alaska, was an inspired choice to run with John McCain. To many Democrats it was a pact with the Salem witches. If you look at my last name on the byline, you'll sorta get which way I lean. What led to the decision to put the convention in St Paul - and our hotel in Minneapolis, 16km away - I am not sure. Despite my last name I am but a foot soldier in the McCampaign, far removed from the lofty magi who make high rulings and whisper in my brother's ear. Which is fine with me, by the way, for I'd much rather be out on the heaths and moors talking about him than be around his campaign.

I remember once in his 2000 primary run against George W. Bush, a fellow operative named Justin Oppman and I were advancing a PoWs-for-McCain tour when we ran into the Straight Talk Express in Spartanburg, South Carolina. We got invited to get on the bus with John and go back to the hotel HQ. Well, it was like being on Jupiter, with its super-dense gravity and dozens of moons in tight orbits - aides all whispering into one ear or the other - "Senator, here is the latest TV ad", "John, you need to take a look at this new paragraph", "Senator, Governor Whatsisname is on the phone". Consultants, advisers, experts, counsellors all overlapping, and John able to sort through all the radio signals beamed at him. But I could not. It was mindless to us who had been driving from one small town to another in South Carolina, talking to a couple of reporters about the PoW tour and checking with scheduled sites to make sure they had survived the latest urban renewal. "Justin, let's get the hell out of here," I whispered to him. And we made our escape, hit a local pub, and took a nice nap in our van.

I had two jobs at this convention, one to speechify to various state caucuses at breakfasts, lunches, meetings, wherever they were gathered. And sometimes they would pick a restaurant 45 minutes down the Mississippi River. At each I would show them John's flight jacket when he was shot down and captured in 1967 and relate his extraordinary story. The other was to be a member of the McFamily. And that meant wearing a bunch of badges: to get you on to the family floor of the Hilton, on to the communications floor, into the finance office, into the hotel. We even had a Secret Service badge we had to put on once John and his wife, Cindy, arrived mid-convention, which is traditional.

One night I was working on a speech and went out of my room to the place where there were some soft drinks. Being in a bathrobe, I forgot my Secret Service pin. A tall guy in a dark suit and that coiled white earpiece stepped in front of me and politely asked who I was. Now, I look so much like John that they call me the Discount John McCain, but I understood the guy had a serious job to do, I explained I had forgotten to put it on. He accompanied me back to my room to fetch it, asking me politely to keep it on when leaving my room. I thanked him for doing his job. I don't think he smiled the whole time. And I look kind of funny in this white samurai bathrobe a former girlfriend gave me.

Going to the caucuses was fine - they always assigned me a McNanny, for I am always forgetting something or just getting lost - it was being a family member that was a bit stultifying, because we were all told to meet in a certain gathering place, then wait; get in certain vans, wait; get to the convention centre, wait; get inside the centre, wait; then be led to either seats on the floor of the convention or up into a special box for kinfolk and contributors. Because of this we were always there for the big speeches but missed some of the cooler prelims, such as the ones by Governor Mitt Romney, one of John's main opponents in the primaries, and Governor Mike Huckabee, another primary warrior, both of whom enthusiastically endorsed John.

Except for seeing the nomination to the nation's highest office of my brother, a true war hero who turned down an early release from a brutal Hanoi PoW camp, the highlight was meeting Palin. All I can tell you is that she is a smart, bright, alert, tough, and pretty lady. I'd say a babe, but I am not sure even a potential first bro gets to be so flippant with a sitting Governor and vice-presidential nominee. I can't wait for the first debate between Palin and Joe Biden. Because Palin was not only a beauty queen - she was second runner up in the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant - but also a tough-playing point guard on her state high school basketball championship team in 1982. So tough she was nicknamed Sarah Barracuda. She doesn't much like the nickname, but we do. Careful, Joe. Oh, and she married an Alaskan steelworker who has won the National Snowmobile title four times. If they still had the Marlboro Man ads, he'd be a finalist.

OK, you gotta forgive me, that's enough storytelling tonight. I gotta go out and campaign for my big bro: 50 days left!

Would more rain be bad for us?

Below is an academic journal abstract preceded by a popular summary of it. It makes a point that I often make but which Greenies sedulously ignore: That warming would INCREASE rainfall overall -- which is of course great for crops. The idea that increased rainfall is a problem is laughable. I grew up in the tropics, where we measured our annual rainfall not in inches but in yards. And the rain was so heavy we used to say that it came down "in sheets". All that rain was slightly pesky at times (good for raincoat sales!) but the environment sure was lush and all the crops grew like mad. We had fields of grass that was over 6' high. And the grass concerned (sugar cane) was and is the world's cheapest source of sugar and ethanol. Heavier rain would be GREAT!

And India and much of Asia have lived with monsoonal rain (seasonal tempests) for millennia. They seem to have survived somehow. People actually welcome the monsoon there, funnily enough

The slim point that the Greenies have is that rainfall PATTERNS would change. Most areas would become wetter but some will become drier. But in large countries such as Australia, China, the USA, Russia and Canada, that would lead only to slightly different patterns of internal trade. Small countries would change their international trading patterns. Overall, food should become cheaper for everyone. Normal people would celebrate that but the Greenies hate it, of course.

The article below is in fact little more than a boring confirmation of basic precipitation physics. Amusingly, however, it once again finds that reality does not fit the Warmist models!
Global warming is expected to have a large effect on the amount and distribution of precipitation, with wet areas projected to become wetter and dry areas drier, and an overall increase in total rainfall. Another important aspect of these predicted changes is the frequency of extreme rainfall events, because the impact of a few heavy rain events is very different from that of many more moderate ones. Allan and Soden (p. 1481, published online 7 August) use satellite observations and model simulations to evaluate how climate warming is affecting the frequency and strength of rain events. Heavy rains are occurring with increasing frequency when it is warm and less often when it is cold, and these extremes are happening more frequently than models have suggested they should. This implies that the impacts of precipitation changes due to global warming could be greater than have been assumed.

Atmospheric Warming and the Amplification of Precipitation Extremes

By Richard P. Allan and Brian J. Soden

Climate models suggest that extreme precipitation events will become more common in an anthropogenically warmed climate. However, observational limitations have hindered a direct evaluation of model-projected changes in extreme precipitation. We used satellite observations and model simulations to examine the response of tropical precipitation events to naturally driven changes in surface temperature and atmospheric moisture content. These observations reveal a distinct link between rainfall extremes and temperature, with heavy rain events increasing during warm periods and decreasing during cold periods. Furthermore, the observed amplification of rainfall extremes is found to be larger than that predicted by models, implying that projections of future changes in rainfall extremes in response to anthropogenic global warming may be underestimated.
