"They said inquisitions couldn't happen in North American. Certainly not in the 21st century. But they have. Whether or not Ezra Levant is declared "innocent" or "guilty" by the Canadian Human Rights Commission of publishing the "Mohammed Cartoons" is beside the point. What is at issue is whether or not a Canadian government agency has the competence to punish someone for what in saner times would be considered a routine exercise in free speech. It is the legitimacy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission that is on trial here. They themselves are in the dock and they have put themselves there.

My comment: Prof. Ward Churchill accused the workers in the NYC twin towers on 9/11 of being "little Eichmanns". But Canada today has REAL "little Eichmanns". You can see one in the video.

The original Eichmann was a Nazi bureaucrat who just sat in his office for most of the war but he accomplished great evil nonetheless -- organizing the transport of Jews to the gas chambers.

Christmas Bad; Kwanzaa OK

We read:

"A judge has refused to stop a Shelby County lawmaker from holding a Kwanzaa party in a public building, ruling that the celebration would not be a religious gathering.

County Commissioner Henri Brooks organized the party, open to the public, scheduled for Wednesday night at the county's main administration building.

Probate Court Clerk Chris Thomas filed a lawsuit to block it, arguing he was denied permission to hold a Christmas party in a county building.

Judge Walter L. Evans dismissed the suit. Lawyers for Brooks argued the party would not violate rules against religious gatherings in public buildings.

Just in case people have forgotten, “In God We Trust” is the National motto. Of course, when it comes to the public schools…political correctness trumps patriotism everytime. Especially if the patriotism mentions a non-specific deity!

The Kern High School District is expecting a big turnout at its meeting tonight when trustees are expected to vote on whether posters carrying the phrase: “In God We Trust” should be posted in classrooms along with the constitution and the bill of rights.

The idea was presented by trustee Chad Vegas who claims the plan promotes patriotism at schools, but some say, the phrase pushes religion into public schools.

Two members, on the five person board, have said they do not support the proposal. Board member Bryan Batey says his “no” vote would defeat trustee Chad Vegas’ effort to post the national motto, along with the bill of rights and the constitution in all classrooms.

The KHSD Board will meet at 7 p.m. at 5801 Sundale Avenue in Bakersfield. The district is making accomodations for a big turnout before the trustees vote on the issue.

The latest stupid PC battle where the mere mention of an unspecified diety sends red flags waving for liberals and white flags waving for the weak minded! CARBON-CREDIT TRADING IS MOSTLY A FRAUDULENT CON-GAME

A Financial Times investigation has uncovered widespread failings in the new markets for greenhouse gases, suggesting some organisations are paying for emissions reductions that do not take place. Others are meanwhile making big profits from carbon trading for very small expenditure and in some cases for clean-ups that they would have made anyway. ... The FT investigation found:

■ Widespread instances of people and organisations buying worthless credits that do not yield any reductions in carbon emissions.

■ Industrial companies profiting from doing very little – or from gaining carbon credits on the basis of efficiency gains from which they have already benefited substantially.

■ Brokers providing services of questionable or no value.

■ A shortage of verification, making it difficult for buyers to assess the true value of carbon credits.

■ Companies and individuals being charged over the odds for the private purchase of European Union carbon permits that have plummeted in value because they do not result in emissions cuts.

The CO2 record from the EPICA Dome C ice core reveals that atmospheric CO2 variations during glacial-interglacial cycles had a notably different character before and after 430 kyr B.P. Before MIS 11, the amplitude of temperature was lower, and the duration of the warm phases has been much longer since then. In spite of these differences, the significant covariation of {delta}D and CO2 is valid in both periods. Before MIS 11, CO2 concentrations did not exceed 260 ppmv. This is substantially lower than the maxima of the last four glacial cycles. The lags of CO2 with respect to the Antarctic temperature over glacial terminations V to VII are 800, 1600, and 2800 years, respectively, which are consistent with earlier observations during the last four glacial cycles. Air trapped in bubbles in polar ice cores constitutes an archive for the reconstruction of the global carbon cycle and the relation between greenhouse gases and climate in the past. High-resolution records from Antarctic ice cores show that carbon dioxide concentrations increased by 80 to 100 parts per million by volume 600 ± 400 years after the warming of the last three deglaciations. Despite strongly decreasing temperatures, high carbon dioxide concentrations can be sustained for thousands of years during glaciations; the size of this phase lag is probably connected to the duration of the preceding warm period, which controls the change in land ice coverage and the buildup of the terrestrial biosphere. These two data series and their analysis show that the ice core record for the last 650,000 years actually proves that increases in atmospheric CO2 does not cause global warming, but that it is a lagging indicator.

I assert that the Left has made CO2 the bogeyman in an effort to attack three of the Left's long-time "foes": free market capitalism, industrialization and consumerism. Their remedy for "global warming caused by man-made greenhouse gases" is higher taxes, more regulation and less consumption - THREE THINGS THEY HAVE LONG ADVOCATED.

"Cadbury Trebor Bassett has been forced to axe the 10 milion pound TV campaign for Trident, its biggest product launch of the year, following hundreds of complaints that the ad was racist and showed "harmful stereotypes".... One ad showed a black man speaking in rhyme with a strong Caribbean accent and other executions show white people speaking in rhyme in Caribbean accents. Viewers complained that the exaggerated behaviour and strong accents were a humiliating and negative depiction of black or Caribbean people.

Movie History Incorrect

Looks like Britain is not the only place where it is forbidden to show blacks as having different speech patterns:

THE REAL HISTORY OF CARBON DIOXIDE LEVELS

BUMPED UP TO THE TOP!

Prof. Beck's paper "180 YEARS OF ATMOSPHERIC CO2 GAS ANALYSIS BY CHEMICAL METHODS" has now been published in the journal Energy and Environment. A PDF copy of the full paper can be obtained from the author: egbeck@biokurs.de. Excerpt here. It shows that actual past measurements of atmospheric CO2 have undergone great variation in levels from time to time in the period surveyed. Levels were not "flat" before the 20th century, as is usually asserted. There is a discussion of the paper here. Attractiveness Incorrect?

The Delta Zeta sorority at the intolerant anti-Christian and anti-Republican DePauw university in Indiana was not flourishing. The chapter's residence was known as the "Dog house"!

So the national leadership of the sorority decided on a shakeup and dismissed most of the members -- leaving only the attractive ones. The ousted ones were said to be all overweight, black, Korean or Vietnamese. At a guess, they might have been all Democrat supporters as well. The national organization does deny that attractiveness was the criterion, though. I guess politeness requires that.

The university says that the whole thing was very bad and has now dismissed the sorority from the campus. You have to have the RIGHT KIND of intolerance at DePauw. Apparently atheistic Democrat uglies are what is celebrated there.

Why cannot a sorority choose its members on any basis it likes? It is a private club. Will young men on the campus eventually be required to date equal numbers of attractive and unattractive women? I am sure that the social engineers of the Left would just love to enforce that if they thought that they could get away with it.

Given their own abysmal record of intolerance, I think DePauw should say: "To err is human" and invite the sorority back. They were originally a Methodist university so someone there might even remember the parable of the lost sheep.

Genteel, old-fashioned Wimbledon is steeped in tradition. There's one custom, however, that has finally been discarded. Women, at last, will be paid as much as the men.

After years of holding out against equal pay, the All England Club yielded to 21st century realities Thursday and agreed to offer the same prize money to both sexes at the world's most prestigious tennis tournament.

After decades of defending their prerogative to reward men with a bigger paycheck than women, Wimbledon officials reversed course and announced today they will award equal prize money beginning with this year's tournament.

The policy change, which had been advocated by the Women's Tennis Association, a host of former champions and even British Prime Minister Tony Blair, brings the sport's most tradition-laden tournament in line with the other majors that comprise the Grand Slam.

The U.S. and Australian opens have offered equal prize money to men and women through all rounds for years, while the French Open pays only its champions equal prize money. On the heels of today's announcement by officials of the All England Club, owner and host of Wimbledon, French Open officials said they would follow suit and equalize prize money during every round of their clay-court event.

German Tommy Haas has criticised Wimbledon's decision to award equal prize money for men and women this year. The All England Club broke with tradition to join the U.S. and Australian Opens in paying equal prize money across the board in all events and in all stages of competition.

Haas, however, said Wimbledon should be putting more cash into the men's event. "I don't think it's really fair," the second seed told reporters after reaching the quarter-finals of the Memphis International with a 7-6 7-6 win over American Amer Delic.

"I think the depth of men's tennis is much tougher than the women's, plus we play best of five sets." [UMPH ADDED.]
