Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he was "gravely concerned" that the P5+1 world powers would sign a deal with Iran, partially curbing its nuclear program in exchange for a thawing of sanctions on Tehran.Netanyahu's going to meet with John Kerry about this, but honestly, I don't see that yielding any positive effects either. As he says here:
His remarks were made on the eve of a new round of talks in Geneva between Iran and the P5+1 powers, which are seeking to reach an agreement to scale back Tehran's nuclear program.
Israel has lashed out at the agreement-in-the-making, saying it offers Iran the "deal of the century."
"I'm concerned, gravely concerned, that this deal will go through and in one stroke of the pen, it will reduce the sanctions on Iran – sanctions that took years to put in place – and in return for this, Iran gives practically nothing," Netanyahu said at a joint news conference with French President Francois Hollande.
“It's clear that this agreement is good only for Iran and that it's really bad for the rest of the world," he said. "Iran's dream deal is the world's nightmare."
Netanyahu said Iran only gives minor concessions in the proposed deal and will keep the capacity for making nuclear weapons. He said he is hopeful for a far better deal.Exactly. Iran will not give up their nuclears one bit.
The way to get that is not to reduce sanctions, he said.
"I think they should not only keep up the pressure, I think you should increase the pressure, because it's finally working," he said. "And if you give it up now, when you have that pressure, and Iran doesn't even take apart, dismantle one centrifuge, what leverage will you have when you ease the pressure?"
Francois Hollande said France wouldn't back down on its opposition to Iran. Good as that is to hear, I'm still galled at how he may not have the courage to deal convincingly with the Islamofascist threats in his home country and backyard.
