Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been heavily criticised by the US, Israel and the UN for branding Zionism a "crime against humanity". He told a UN forum this week: "As with Zionism, anti-Semitism and fascism, it is inevitable that Islamophobia be considered a crime against humanity." Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu called the comments "dark and mendacious".
New US Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to raise the issue when he meets Turkey's leaders on Friday.ALSO BBC:
New US Secretary of State John Kerry is visiting Turkey for talks expected to focus on the conflict in Syria. The two Nato allies both oppose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but differ on how best to support the opposition. The visit is being overshadowed by a row over comments by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who called Zionism a "crime against humanity".
US officials said Mr Kerry would raise the remarks directly with Mr Erdogan. Israel's relations with Turkey have deteriorated in recent years.WE'LL SEE HOW OBAMA AND KERRY HANDLE THIS.
THE ADMINISTRATION SHOULD NOT MERELY GENERALLY EXPRESS PUBLIC CRITICISM AND THEN NOT ATTACK THE COMMENT WHILE THE NUMBER 3 ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL - KERRY - IS THERE.
OBAMA SHOULD INSTRUCT KERRY TO PUBLICLY ATTACK THE REMARKS WHILE IN TURKEY. "RAISING THE REMARKS WITH ERDOGAN" IN PRIVATE IS BULLSHIT.
THERE SHOULD BE NO GREY AREA AND NO WIGGLE ROOM ALLOWED.
I DON'T EXPECT KERRY - WHO WAS SOFT ON ASSAD FOR YEARS - TO DO THE RIGHT THING.
AND KERRY'S BOSS & CONTROLLER - BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA -CONSIDERS ERDOGAN ONE OF HIS CLOSEST FOREIGN ALLIES - ONE HIS SPEAKS TO REGULARLY.
IF THESE TALKS HAVE BEEN FRANK, THEN OBAMA HAS HAD DIRECT KNOWLEDGE OF THE DEPTH OF ERDOGAN'S ANTISEMITISM FOR 5 YEARS - AND EITHER APPROVES OR CONDONES IT.
