Zentropa Films, owned by L'arse von Trier and Peter Aalbæk, has been in the news again - but not as a result of any newsworthy production. The latest story is how employees of Zentropa, who were sold stock in the filmstudio in 2006, unknowingly ended up as guarantors in Real Estate transactions made for the benefit of Aalbæk and von Trier. All this after the fact that Zentropa has been losing millions since the employees came on board. Needless to say the employees were not happy - until they left a closed meeting with Aalbæk - who explained how things really stand (...we'll never know).
After another story - that revealed that Aalbæk owned houses and apartments all over the globe in spite of Zentropa's weak results - Aalbæk complained that he wasn't that poor. It's is not inconceivable that Aalbæk has been squirreling money gleaned from foreign sales away tax free - all the while Zentropa receives millions of kroner in State Subsidies.
Yes Leonid, it's great to be a Socialist...
