Which word was missing from Obama’s speech last night?ME YESTERDAY:Barack Obama’s supporters praised him for having it in his joint-session speech last night on job creation. A national economy needs plenty of it in order to expand. Consumers consider it one of the most pressing economic issues they face. Yet Obama’s speech was curiously absent of any mention of one word … energy.
That’s right; you could look it up. There wasn’t one single mention in a speech about jobs and economic stimulation that addressed the need for the energy necessary to support it. Never mind that part of the problem in the economy comes from a blunted demand that can be directly associated in part with the erosion in buying power created by rapidly-rising fuel costs, or that a significant share of the reluctance to invest in American economic expansion comes from the considerable uncertainty of regulatory assaults on energy production and the impact on future energy costs.
Obama simply acted as if the problem doesn’t exist at all.
YUP, YOU'RE RIGHT: IT SEEMS THAT THE GREAT BIG FAT FAMOUS ED MORRISSEY SWIPED MY IDEA FOR HIS POST!OBAMA'S GLARING OMISSION: NO MENTION OF GREATER EXPLOITATION OF AMERICA'S VAST ENERGY RESOURCES
HERE'S SOME NEWS FROM TODAY'S NYTIMES:
Natural gas drilling using a controversial technique known as hydraulic fracturing could create up to 37,000 jobs and generate from $31 million to $185 million a year in added state income taxes for New York at the peak level of well development, according to analyses in a report commissioned by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation that was released on Wednesday.
But communities in south-central and southwestern New York, on or near the Marcellus Shale, where most new drilling is expected, would pay a price for the local economic bonanza.
Included among the negative impacts the report outlines are large-scale industrial activity, heavy truck traffic, more spending on police and fire protection and higher housing prices due to the expected influx of workers.
Hmm... let's see:
The upside is it creates 37,000 jobs in NY and generates nearly $200MILLION in new TAX revenues. And the downside: ER, UM... it increases the value of EVERYONE'S real estate!
IOW: there's not much of a downside WHEN YOU UNLEASH AMERICANS TO EXPLOIT OUR NATIONAL RESOURCES.
SO...
Did Obama propose a similar action in the USA with regard to our oil and coal and gas?
NOPE. He's keeping his party's restrictive energy polices as is.
Obama failed to even mention the word ENERGY in his speech.
Not once. He mentioned "oil" once - but only to say he wanted to raise taxes on oil companies. He never mentioned natural gas or coal.
