REGIME THUGS ATTACK MOUSAVI'S MOTORCADE AT MONTAZERI FUNERAL IN QOM, IRAN

The car of Iranian opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi has been attacked by "plainclothes men" on motorbikes, reformist website has reported.

The assault happened as Mr Mousavi returned to Tehran after attending the funeral of leading dissident cleric Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri in Qom, Kaleme website said.

The group on motorbikes reportedly insulted Mr Mousavi, and those accompanying him, and stopped his motorcade several times.

"One of the assailants shattered the back window of the car carrying Mousavi," Kaleme said.

Earlier, opponents of Grand Ayatollah Montazeri had stopped his memorial service, reports said.

Huge crowds of Iranians were marking the funeral in Qom, 80 miles south of Tehran. Websites reported scuffles between mourners and police.

But about 2,000 of the cleric's opponents then "arrived at Azam mosque and halted his memorial service. The assailants tore placards", the conservative Ayande website said.
