One of Ireland’s leading paediatric consultants has criticised a cabinet minister for demanding an early appointment for a constituent in a hospital department where the waiting list is 18 to 24 months.
Brendan Smith, the agriculture minister, used official department stationery to write to the chief executive of Our Lady’s children’s hospital in Crumlin, demanding to know why a child in his Cavan-Monaghan constituency had not been given an immunology appointment with a doctor six weeks after referral by a GP.
Dr Karina Butler, the head of the unit, was flabbergasted by Smith’s letter. As a former minister for children, he would have been expected to know that the average waiting time for a routine immunology appointment in the Crumlin unit was up to two years.
THIS ITEM SAYS IT: SOCIALIZED MEDICINE SUCKS - AND SO DO POLITICIANS.
OBAMACARE WOULD LEAD TO THIS.
KEEP DISSENTING ACCORDINGLY.
