SALMAN RUSHDIE CONDEMNS MUSLIM HATEMONGERING

The author famous for being persecuted by the onetime ayatollah of Iran for daring to speak out against Islam has spoken out again:

Accusations of 'Islamophobia' are being levelled at anyone who dares to speak out against the "hate-filled rhetoric" of Islamic fanaticism, Salman Rushdie has claimed in a speech condemning Isil and "this new age of religious mayhem".

It's also worth noting how accusations of "homophobia" are being leveled at Judeo-Christian practitioners in the USA coupled with lawfare, yet never at Muslims.

Rushdie voiced his fears that the language of "jihadi-cool" is seducing young British Muslims, many via Twitter and YouTube, into joining the "decapitating barbarianism" of Isil, the group also referred to as Islamic State or Isis.

In his PEN/Pinter Prize Lecture, the author said all religions have their extremists but "the overwhelming weight of the problem lies in the world of Islam".

Last week, Isil beheaded taxi driver and charity worker Alan Henning, the latest Western hostage to die at their hands.

The so-called "jihadi-cool" image romanticises Isil, using rap videos and social networking to recruit followers - posing with AK-47s and bragging about their "five star jihad" in videos showing fighters lounging around in luxury villas as they urged the destruction of the West.

Indeed, the latest spate of jihadism has seen a rise in graphic murders, and the one that took place in Oklahoma a few weeks ago is just one of them. (Speaking of which, it turns out the culprit, Alton Nolan, was suspended from his job and not fired, as previously reported.) Some of this could be partly fueled by exploitation of social media, as some call it, and that's why more serious effort needs to be taken to prevent jihadists from exploiting online video and other systems for their indoctrination campaigns.

Rushdie's done the right thing to speak out again. Exploitation of rap music for jihad is only making things worse, and is downright creepy.

NYTIMES: GLOBAL ECONOMY LOOKS BAD, AND IT'S GETTING WORSE - AND STOCK MARKETS ARE OVERPRICED

NYTIMES: ... the week’s zigs and zags were a reminder that, after several years of strong gains, the prices for stocks and a wide range of other assets, like junk bonds and commercial real estate, are at the high end of their historical levels, relative to fundamentals. Those valuations will prove justified only as long as the global economy continues to improve steadily. And the week was filled with suggestions that such may not be the case, especially outside the United States. 

The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index showed a loss of 3.1 percent for the week, though it is still up for the year. Oil prices closed at a four-year low. 

Evidence that the global economy may be unexpectedly stalling has jarred prominent economists and policy makers gathered in Washington for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. At a conference on Thursday, Lawrence H. Summers, the former United States Treasury secretary who now teaches at Harvard, highlighted this concern. 

“The defining challenge of our time, economically, is secular stagnation,” he said. “It is the risk of inadequate growth, leading to inadequate potential, leading to inadequate growth.” ... 

... thanks to the efforts of the global central banks, prices for stocks and other financial assets have been on an upward tear for more than five years, with the S.&P. 500 index up 182 percent since March 2009. But valuations of many assets are now relatively high, even as the global economy remains somewhat shaky.

Further economic weakening could prompt more slides in the stock and bond markets, which in turn could undermine economic confidence at a fragile time. And investors may be all the more jittery after riding the markets to giddy heights. Some financial experts have long argued that aggressive monetary stimulus has done a lot to drive securities markets higher but that its has not induced robust growth in the real economy.

A pressing question is whether the American stock market and its economy can remain insulated if other parts of the world stall badly.

A few years ago, Oregon’s first lady, Cylvia Hayes, shared her rags-to-riches journey — from her dilapidated childhood home in Washington state, to a tent on government land in Oregon, to the governor’s mansion, where she now lives with Gov. John Kitzhaber (D). 

But she never mentioned the Ethiopian immigrant she married 17 years ago and divorced in 2002. When stories seeped out this week that she helped him obtain U.S. residency in exchange for $5,000, she said she needed the cash. 

“It was a marriage of convenience,” she said in a statement. “He needed help, and I needed financial support.” 

Hayes, 47, wiped away tears during a news conference Thursday, explaining that when she married the 18-year-old immigrant in 1997, she was “associating with the wrong people” and attempting to pay for classes at Evergreen State College near Seattle. She said she used the money to buy a laptop and cover school expenses. She was so “ashamed and embarrassed” of the illegal union she never even told Kitzhaber, her fiance — until the Willamette Week peeked into her past earlier this week.

Hayes was twice divorced and not yet 30 when she married an Ethiopian teenager identified as Abraham B. Abraham [OTHERS HAVE SPELLED IT IBRAHIM IBRAHIM], who she met through a mutual acquaintance in Washington state. He was allegedly trying to stay in America to earn a college education.

FORT HOOD JIHADIST SENT THREATENING LETTER TO POPE AT THE VATICAN

Nidal Hasan wants attention again, the hard way. So this time, he sent an offensive letter to Pope Francis at the Vatican, repeating his support for violent jihad (Hat tip: Truth Revolt):

Convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan has written to Pope Francis espousing “jihad,” in his latest correspondence aligning himself with radical Islam.

Despite efforts by the Defense Department to label the 2009 massacre as “workplace violence,” Hasan has described himself several times, and again in the new letter, using the acronym "SoA," or "Soldier of Allah."

Hasan directed his attorney John Galligan to mail the undated, six-page, hand-written letter to the pope. A copy of the letter – titled, "A Warning To Pope Francis, Members Of The Vatican, And Other Religious Leaders Around the World” – was provided by the attorney to Fox News.

Hasan appears to make multiple references to the Koran in the letter, and includes a bulleted list of guidelines for “believers.”

In one subsection titled "Jihad," Hasan praises "The willingness to fight for All-Mighty Allah," describing it as a test that elevates the "mujahadeen" who "are encouraged to inspire the believers." He states that “fighters … have a greater rank in the eyes of Allah than believers who don’t fight."

There is no reference in the letter to the Fort Hood massacre for which Hasan was convicted on 13 counts of premeditated murder, and 31 counts of attempted murder, but no terrorism charges. Hasan currently is on death row at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.

I think his lawyer should be held accountable for delivering a letter without checking the content. It's against the law to make threats like those, yet Hasan has been allowed to live long enough so he can continue his sick charade in prison. Pure injustice.

In rejecting Zionism, they repudiate a specific answer to the Jewish Question. But unlike their gentile counterparts, they are not totally indifferent to the fate of the Jewish people: they too would suffer the consequences of Jew-hatred in a world with no safe haven. Unlike gentile anti-Zionists, ready to subject hapless third-parties to the risks of their own ideological mission, Jewish anti-Zionists would at least pay some personal price for their own miscalculations (Diaspora anti-Zionists, admittedly, far less than Israelis). Their opposition to Zionism might make them misguided or naïve – I would say useful idiots – but it need not necessarily make them self-hating or prejudiced against their people.

STATE DEPT. ENDORSING HANDBOOK CALLING JIHAD "NOBLE"

The Wash. Free Beacon informs that the State Department appears to be supporting an alleged handbook that supposedly explains Islamofascism to parents, but truly, it's riddled with the very propaganda that doesn't help one bit:

The U.S. State Department endorsed on Wednesday a controversial anti-terror handbook published by Canada’s Muslim community that refers to jihad as “noble” and urges law enforcement to avoid using terms such as “Islamic extremism.”

The handbook, published earlier this month by two Canadian Muslim community organizations, was so controversial that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) flatly rejected the manual and ordered its officers not to use it.

Yet the State Department’s official anti-terrorism Twitter feed, called Think Again Turn Away, appeared to endorse the controversial handbook on Twitter and linked to a positive article about it.

The handbook, titled United Against Terrorism, has become a contentious issue for the RCMP since its release. Several sections of the guide instruct Muslim community members not to cooperate with police while others claim jihad “is a noble concept.”

The RCMP ultimately decided to reject the book, citing its “adversarial tone.”

“After a final review of the handbook, the RCMP could not support the adversarial tone set by elements of the booklet and therefore directed RCMP Manitoba not to proceed with this initiative,” the police force said in a statement posted on its website.

The handbook itself recommends that “intelligence and law enforcement officials” should “avoid terms such as ‘Islamist terrorism’, ‘Islamicism’, and ‘Islamic extremism’ in favor of more accurate terms such as ‘al Qaeda inspired extremist,’” according to one section of the handbook, which still bears RCMP’s official logo.

Reading more about this, it sounds far more like something Islamofascist groups would distribute to their own than to law enforcement officials, and the RCMP were right to reject it. So why is the State Dept. once again giving endorsements that only make it look bad?

JACQUI LAMBIE IS A HEROINE FOR AUSTRALIA

The Australian parliamentarian's denounced Islamic sharia:

SHE claims she doesn’t have a problem with Muslims, but Jacqui Lambie is still refusing to back away from her call for Sharia law supporters to get out of Australia.

The outspoken Palmer United Party Senator believes the Islamic legal system “obviously involves terrorism” and its followers need to instead follow Australian law “100 per cent”.

“If you are not going to show your allegiance to our constitution and to Australian law, then get out,” she told ABC’s Insiders program this morning

She is also sticking by her push to ban the burqa headdress, arguing it is a security risk.

“I believe it is a national security issue,” she said.

“It is just like anything else, it is like a motorbike helmet. It’s like a balaclava. I will not allow you to wear that into my office because it is a security risk.”

People should be able to show their faces and “they shouldn’t feel that they need to be oppressed, to be able to hide their faces,” she said.

“I think that’s the way for the future of Australia.”

Daniel Pipes made a point once that outfits like niqabs can provide robbers with a perfect disguise, and the same holds true with jihadists. It's also little more than a way for people who don't want to be part of society to separate themselves from it, but telling they're merely sad cases with social problems. Lambie is a very bold woman to speak out against concepts like the burka and/or niqab, and she's additionally right that sharia supporters have no place Down Under.

Women are dressed in full chador-type black robes, with their faces covered, hair shaved, and they are always wearing socks, stockings and shoes, even when indoors. Men have shaved heads, and extra-long sideburns and beards. Children are home-schooled, and only taught in Hebrew and Yiddish in order to understand the teachings of the group’s leader, Rabbi Shlomo Helbrans. Helbrans has said he encourages children to marry at a young age, but has denied allegations that he married children who were under the legal age.

I think he can stuff his limp defenses. I'm aware of how women in Haredi sects like these shave their heads, and I've also seen Haredi men at times who shave the tops of their heads too, and just keep the sideburn lines. IMO, it's disgusting. Now for more about the financing:

A newly amended bill from a California lawmaker would require college students to stop in the heat of passion and establish verbal or written consent before having sex anywhere on campus, reports L.A. Weekly…SB 967, amended last week by state Sen. Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles), would mandate that college students obtain “an affirmative, unambiguous, and conscious decision by each participant to engage in mutually agreed-upon sexual activity.” 

Last month, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights released a list of 55 schools that face federal probes into their handling of sexual assault cases. De Leon said his bill is meant to confront sexual assault problems head-on…“Obviously, there is a problem,” he said in the report. “SB 967 will change the equation so the system is not stacked against survivors by establishing an affirmative consent policy to make it clear that only ‘yes’ means ‘yes.’” 

Why not just require a notarized letter from an attorney, or better yet, a license? If we’re going to go this far, maybe college kids who want to have sex should go to a DMV-like office to get permission. Ridiculous.

PHILLIPE KARSENTY LAUNCHES NEW CAMPAIGN AGAINST FRANCE 2 TV

The al-Dura hoax whistleblower is launching a new campaign against the state-owned TV station that supported it:

Philippe Karsenty, the French-Jewish activist who became internationally renowned after he charged the France 2 television network with having used staged footage in its report on the apparent killing in 2000 of Muhammed Al-Durah, a 12 year old Palestinian boy in Gaza, has announced a new campaign against the state-owned network.

In an interview with The Algemeiner, Karsenty explained that his campaign was being mounted in response to an advertising blitz by France 2 across the country.

In 2004, Charles Enderlin, the France 2 reporter who broadcast the story that al-Durah was shot by Israeli troops during a gun battle with Palestinian terrorists – thereby turning the young boy into an icon of the global anti-Israel movement overnight – was accused by Karsenty of having used staged footage, and of not confirming that al-Durah had been killed. As a result, France 2 sued Karsenty, winning its case in 2006. Karsenty appealed, and in 2008 the original judgement was overturned by the Court of Appeal in Paris. In 2012, however, another court annulled the decision in favor of Karsenty, on the grounds that damning footage he has acquired to support his case had been secured illegally; last year, Karsenty was convicted of defamation by the Paris Court of Appeal, and ordered to pay 11,000 Euros in damages. An American organization, the Middle East Forum of leading Middle East scholar Professor Daniel Pipes, paid the fine on Karsenty’s behalf.

Karsenty told The Algemeiner that the case is now being considered by the French Supreme Court. Should he lose his battle there, Karsenty is resolved to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.

Karsenty explained that his campaign, launched on Facebook, is in response to a massive promotional campaign by France 2 – ironically begun, Karsenty said, on September 30, the fourteenth anniversary of the broadcast of Enderlin’s report on al-Durah.

The France 2 campaign features images of their top presenters above slogans like “En Quete 2 Verite” and “Zone 2 Turbulences.” (In French, the number 2 is spelled “deux,” a word that is pronounced exactly the same way as the preposition “de.” ) Using a picture of Enderlin and al-Durah, Karsenty’s counter campaign is based on word plays: for example, instead of “En Quete 2 Verite” (“Looking for the Truth”,) Karsenty substitutes “En Quete 2 Mensonges” (“Looking for Lies.”)

“France 2 is spending money on advertising while still defending the worst blood libel of our times,” Karsenty, who now serves as deputy-mayor of the Paris suburb of Neuilly, said. “They are still covering up their mistake which is responsible for the beheading of [Wall Street Journal reporter] Daniel Pearl.
