ISRAELI LEADERS NOT ATTENDING NELSON MANDELA'S FUNERAL

It looks like the most prominent members of the Israeli government won't be going to attend the funeral proceedings of the late African president Nelson Mandela, who died this past week. Nor will the Dalai Lama be going. It's just as well, because as noted:

Since Mandela left office, his political party, the African National Congress, has become vociferously anti-Israel, hosting the notoriously antisemitic Durban racism conference in 2001 and siding increasingly with the Palestinian cause, including expressions of support for Hamas in Gaza. The South African government now prevents its ministers from visiting Israel and has encouraged its citizens not to go to Israel, either.

Even before this, Mandela's communist leanings and his chumminess with Yasir Arafat did not help matters much. It is a shame that a man who did have a part in ending apartheid in Africa had to side with communists as well.

AUSTRALIAN INTEL CANCELS PASSPORTS OF JIHADISTS

The Australian authorities have an interesting idea for how to curb terrorists from operating:

Australia's spy agency has defended cancelling the passports of 20 Sydney men, saying such actions aid national security by preventing people taking part in terrorism acts and training.

The western Sydney men had their passports cancelled after the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) accused them of preparing to engage in politically motivated violence if they travelled overseas.

The Muslim men were also said to be a threat to national security because they had a "jihadi mentality", Fairfax Media reported on Sunday.

ASIO's move comes after Australian Federal Police (AFP) and NSW Police last week charged two men for allegedly supporting Australians fighting in Syria's civil war.

The AFP said it believed about 100 Australians were suspected of being involved in the Syrian conflict.

ASIO says the agency can request passport cancellations on security grounds.

"Withholding passports is an important means of preventing Australians from travelling overseas to engage in activities prejudicial to national security - for example, to train, support or participate in terrorism," the spokesperson said in a statement.

An excellent idea, but they also have to jail the criminals since they could be dangerous even on Australian turf.

For months, the Obama administration has heralded the low premiums of medical insurance policies on sale in the insurance exchanges created by the new health law. But as consumers dig into the details, they are finding that the deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs are often much higher than what is typical in employer-sponsored health plans. 

Until now, it was almost impossible for people using the federal health care website to see the deductible amounts, which consumers pay before coverage kicks in. But federal officials finally relented last week and added a “window shopping” feature that displays data on deductibles. 

For policies offered in the federal exchange, as in many states, the annual deductible often tops $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for a couple.

A study by Jon R. Gabel and colleagues at NORC, a research organization affiliated with the University of Chicago, found that 65 percent of employees in group health plans had higher-value coverage that would be classified as gold or platinum under the Affordable Care Act. 

Mark A. York, a 60-year-old freelance writer in Hailey, Idaho, said he began shopping after he received a letter saying that his current insurance policy would be canceled because it did not meet the requirements of the health care law. In the exchange, he said, he found policies with premiums similar to what he is now paying, $440 a month, but “the deductibles were so high — $4,000 to $6,000 a year — that it defeats the purpose of having insurance.”

Jordan Horner, 19, was sentenced to 17 months in prison after pleading guilty to two charges of assault and two charges of using threatening words and behaviour.

Ricardo MacFarlane, 26, was sentenced to 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to affray, while another 23-year-old member of the group received a six-month sentence after pleading guilty to affray.

[...] The court was told how the trio had terrorised east London neighbourhoods. They bullied a couple for holding hands, told a woman that she would be punished in "hellfire" because of the way she was dressed and attacked a group of men for drinking alcohol on various occasions.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, the group can be heard shouting, "You need to control this area and forbid people from exposing themselves outside the mosque. Remove yourselves now. Muslim Patrol. Move away from the mosque. Don't come back. We don't respect those who disrespect God."

(Reuters) - Iran is moving ahead with testing more efficient uranium enrichment technology, a spokesman for its atomic energy agency said on Saturday, in news that may concern world powers who last month agreed a deal to curb Tehran's atomic activities.

Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi was quoted by state news agency IRNA as saying that initial testing on a new generation of more sophisticated centrifuges had been completed, underlining Iran's determination to keep refining uranium in what it says is work to make fuel for a planned network of nuclear power plants.

And yet Obama continues to defend this horrific deal. I'm sure he knows it's only doomed to fail, yet he continues to go for an unrealistic viewpoint.

LEV TAHOR AMASSED $6 MILLION AS A "CHARITY BUSINESS"

It turns out Lev Tahor, the Haredi cult with Muslim influences, has been raking in tons of money it didn't deserve via charity and welfare:

MONTREAL—Lev Tahor, the radical Jewish group accused of raising their children in squalid conditions, has operated for more than a decade as a religious charity with millions of dollars flowing through its accounts, the Star has learned.

The group that is alleged to exert strict control over its members’ liberty, health and finances amassed nearly $6 million in assets at its peak and regularly pulled in annual revenues of hundreds of thousands of dollars for the operation of its reclusive community in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, north of Montreal.

Financial filings show Lev Tahor’s two charitable guises — Congregation Riminov and the Society for Spiritual Development — are run by the group’s spiritual leader Rabbi Shlomo Helbrans and an eight-person inner circle.

Congregation Riminov was registered as a tax-exempt religious charity in 2001, shortly after Helbrans moved from Israel to Canada, where he would later be granted political asylum (the rabbi was deported to Israel after serving prison time in New York for the second-degree kidnapping of a young religious recruit).

The charity had a rapid rise in its financial performance under its stated goal: “the operation of a synagogue and provision of assistance to those in need.”

With the kind of influence they go by, it's more like the operation of a mosque.

An Israeli source with knowledge of the Lev Tahor group said community members survive mainly on government welfare payments that are given to the group’s leadership. The money is allegedly then rationed out to the 40-odd families, which has been described as a method of exerting control over members.

“Already the payments to families in Quebec are generous. It’s what, $1,700, $2,000 for a family that has five or six children?” said the source in Israel who has assisted former Lev Tahor members.

“But the money doesn’t go to the families. The money goes to the sect’s leadership.”

No doubt about that. Unfortunately, in regards to the children they're keeping:

Children’s Aid officials in Ontario have not commented on the case and have so far failed to act on the Quebec judge’s order.

Well this is angering. The authorities have failed to act to protect the children. It's bad enough they let a man with a criminal record into Canada, now they won't even act properly to help out the children in this sick cult? Must this be taken all the way to the Canadian supreme court?
