A very offensive act took place at the Middlebury College: at least 5 protestors pulled out nearly 3,000 USA flags that were posted in memory of the victims of 9-11. They even claimed in their defense that they're of Indian descent and that the lawn is supposedly an Indian burial ground, but Ward Churchill already used that to cover for and justify his own Chomskyism.
The 5 felons who committed this atrocity should be banished from the premises. It would help if any local Indian representatives were to condemn them as well for the embarrassment they caused.
And what if any of the 9-11 victims were of Indian descent too? Jihadists don't make any distinctions, and they hate Indians just as much as other Americans and Israelis. For all we know, there could have been some people who'd perished in the terrorist attacks who were Indian, and if so, then the moonbats who pulled out the flags desecrated their memory too. Which means that they really don't have respect for Indian heritage.

Omar Hammami, a native of Daphne, Alabama, who was known as Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki, or "the American," died in southern Somalia following several months on the run after a falling-out with al-Shabab's top leader, the rebels said.
Reports of Hammami's death have cropped up every few months in Somalia, only for him to resurface a short while later. But a United States terrorism expert who closely follows the inner workings of the al-Shabab rebels says he thinks that the current reports of the death are accurate.
"I think it's very likely true based on the sources I am seeing," said J.M. Berger, who runs the website Intelwire.com. [...]
Along with Adam Gadahn in Pakistan - a former Osama bin Laden spokesman - the 29-year-old Hammami is one of the two most notorious Americans in jihad groups. He grew up in Daphne, a community of 20,000 outside Mobile, the son of a Christian mother and a Syrian-born Muslim father.

I don't think much of the pastor Terry Jones, who, despite his opposition to Islam, still has a very questionable MO. But that doesn't mean the cops had to arrest him for planning to burn Koran copies on 9-11:
ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - Anti-Islam pastor Terry Jones was arrested on a felony charge in Florida on Wednesday, police said, after announcing plans to burn nearly 3,000 copies of the Koran on a barbecue grill.
Jones was towing the grill and the kerosene-soaked holy books in the back of his pickup truck to a park in Mulberry, Florida, according to follower Stephanie Sapp, whose husband, Marvin Wayne Sapp Jr., was also arrested.
Sapp said Jones's group, Stand Up America Now, had earlier announced plans on Facebook to torch the Korans on the anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the U.S. The Koran is the most sacred religious text in the Muslim religion.
Jones and Sapp Jr. were each charged with unlawful conveyance of fuel, a felony, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. Jones was also charged with a misdemeanor of openly carrying a firearm.
Now maybe it was all just an arrest based on wrongful transportation of fuel, which could be dangerous in a car. But if the local sheriff department really did bust him because they despised his idea of letting the ummah know what he thinks of them, to say nothing of acting on their political opinions and not altruism, then that was wrong, and worse, it gives Jones all the attention I think they know they could've avoided lavishing him with. They'd do well enough to make their point unambiguously, or just drop the charges and stop giving people like him the attention he doesn't need.

I've posted this film clip of Gamal Abdel Nasser addressing a political meeting before in order to illustrate the decline of modernity in Egypt, but it may be a more important and revealing illustration of how the Left seeks to use the coercive power of the State to enforce its cultural and economic principles.
Notice the reaction to the last anecdote. The head of the Muslim Brotherhood could not persuade or force his own daughter, a medical student, to veil herself with a head scarf, and he therefore appealed to the government to use the threat of official violence to do so. This illustrates the use of State power to enforce what can't be done by encouragement.

"You have to pass the bill to find out what's in it" -- which is just an extension of "you have to elect Obama to find out what's in him." Or "Please authorize my use of force, even though I need no such authorization. Rather, I just need someone else to blame for f*cking this up."
Historian John Philip Jenkins writes, “As late as the eleventh century, Asia was still home to at least a third of the world’s Christians and perhaps a tenth of all Christians lived in Africa. What happened to this thriving, intellectually vibrant Christianity? It was virtually wiped out by violent Islamic persecution, especially during the fourteenth century, due to ethnic and religious cleansing.” Islam became known as “the religion of the sword,” and for good reason.
It certainly seems that “radical Islam” is in truth the “normative Islam” of today. At the very least, Islam has a potentially violent core that is deeply associated with the fundamental principles of its violent faith. This radical and violent core, with all of its terrorists and murderous intent, actually controls the entire religion today, as far as the world is concerned. If they continue as they are, and they talk and act as if they will, another World War may be inevitable.
Those are the beliefs it was built on, that's how it'll end, and that's why it is simply a bad religion and ideology.
We're now at the 12th year since the jihadist attack on 9-11, and the annual memorial is being held again. Interestingly, the AP Wire article tells of something that came into effect a year ago:
Continuing a decision made last year, no politicians will speak, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Over his years as mayor and chairman of the National Sept. 11 Memorial & Museum, Bloomberg has sometimes tangled with victims' relatives, religious leaders and other elected officials over an event steeped in symbolism and emotion. But his administration has largely succeeded at its goal of keeping the commemoration centered on the attacks' victims and their families and relatively free of political image-making.
I'd say they're doing the right thing, because of Bloomberg's decisions to bar Judeo-Christian priests (and even rescue team operators) from delivering sermons, no doubt angering many families of victims too. Politicians who take one-sided actions like Bloomberg's staff did should be kept far away from the proceedings.
And despite what the AP says, mistreating Judeo-Christian advocates is very much a politicized act, and a very disrespectful one at that. Because of Bloomberg's dhimmitude, that's just why political interference had to be downplayed.
On September 10 in my American Government/Current Events class, I presented a very effective lesson on 9/11. I made the day “come alive” for my students and the parents who were sitting in on the class. Not a dry eye in the room by the time I was done.
I personalized the lesson with details that my students will never read in history books: the days-long chirping of those cell phones at Ground Zero, the very small body parts, the pink mist in the air, the several hours I spent as I awaited word of the fate of one of my friends in the Pentagon (He, a wonderful man with several kids and a disabled wife, was called out of the building, out of the very room that was destroyed, a few minutes before the plane struck), the children who perished in the day care center at the Pentagon, tales of recovery personnel and what they went through in those weeks following 9/11, the anthrax attacks (the devil in the mail box), the many lost freedoms and the many resulting inconveniences, how this generation will never be as free as my generation, the travesty of the Flight 93 Memorial, and more — including the whitewash of Islam and my anger at today’s dhimmitude and political correctness.
I spoke without notes.
I spoke from the heart.
The last segment of my lesson plan consisted of playing Bruce Springsteen’s “You’re Missing” on the classroom's excellent sound system:

The Colorado Recall Transparency Project aims to livestream election locations during the five days that voters can fill out their ballot, in order to discourage voter fraud, and to document any irregularities in voting. It didn’t take long. On the first day, college students were seen turning in 10 ballots at one location – while not strictly illegal, it points to loopholes in the Colorado voter regulation system that could be abused. Then earlier today, an unidentified man questioned a poll location videographer from the transparency project, and then smacked his camera out of his hands, and pushed him.
Israel deployed its Iron Dome missile defence system near Jerusalem Sunday, an AFP correspondent said, as the United States lobbied for domestic and international support for military strikes against Syria.
The correspondent said the battery was set up west of the city.
A military spokeswoman would not comment on the deployment, saying only that "defence systems are deployed in accordance with situation assessments."
Late last month a battery of the mobile system was set up in the greater Tel Aviv area, pointing northwards towards Syria. Israeli media have reported that six or seven such batteries are currently in use.
