3 FRENCH JEWS INJURED IN ANOTHER MUSLIM ASSAULT

Following the horrifying murder last March, there've been more anti-semitic attacks, and this one near Lyon is the latest:

Three Jews wearing kipot were attacked by 10 people in Villeurbanne, France, near Lyon, French Interior Minister Manuel Valls was quoted as saying on Sunday by the European Jewish Press.

Two of the victims were hospitalized. One victim sustained an open wound to the head, and another suffered a neck injury.

The attackers were described as being of North-African origin, and beat their Jewish victims with hammers and iron bars, an act denounced as "extremely serious" by French authorities. The attack occurred on Saturday.

Accordingly, Valls mobilized the police to search out and arrest those behind the attack.

The incident came after a March attack in Toulouse France, in which Mohamed Merah killed three Jewish schoolchildren and a rabbi.

Merah admitted anti-Semetic motivations for his attack during a 30-hour gunbattle with police who besieged his Toulouse apartment.

This only precipitates the sad but necessary departure many Jews will likely make from France because of these horrors.

Update: Jonathan Tobin addresses the issue, and says that European politicians with anti-Israel leanings have to shoulder some blame too:

The flow of raw hate speech against Jews from Cairo and Tehran and other Arab and Muslim capitals is not to be underestimated, but the willingness of European intellectuals to lend their support to the demonization of the Jewish state has given these sentiments a patina of undeserved legitimacy.

Exactly. That's why I figure Sarkozy's calls for Israel to retreat and remove "settlers" from Judea/Samaria could've had an indirect influence, even as most Muslims still wouldn't vote for him. One can only wonder if he'll ever be willing to apologize for any discrimination on his part against Israel, to say nothing of denying Islam's connections with anti-Jewish and misogynist violence, and might even be willing to repent by becoming an activist for legitimate causes. But alas, don't bet on the prospects he ever will.

NYTIMES: Asian markets tumbled further on Monday as poor US jobs data added to already weak sentiment caused by Spain's banking crisis and political uncertainty in Greece. Dealers were also digesting a string of manufacturing figures from Asia to the United States that pointed to a global economic slowdown. 

Tokyo ended 1.71 percent, or 144.62 points, lower at 8,295.63, with electronics giant Sony the stand-out loser as it fell below 1,000 yen for the first time since 1980, ending at 996 yen. Seoul fell 2.80 percent, shedding 51.38 points to close at 1,783.13, while Sydney slipped 1.94 percent, or 78.9 points, to 3,985.0. Hong Kong tumbled 2.01 percent, or 372.75 points, to 18,185.59 and Shanghai was down 2.73 percent, or 64.89 points, at 2,308.55.

Jordan’s tourism sector loses $1 billion in 2011

AMMAN: Jordan’s tourism sector lost around 700 million  dinars ($1 billion) in potential revenue last year as a result of a “negative” image propagated by foreign media, according to government ministers.

It's been 18 months since the Arab Spring swept through the Middle East and while some nations have emerged with a renewed spirit, others have plunged into daily violence. 

The wave of protests that galvanized many in the region resulted in a sharp drop in tourism to countries at the center of the turmoil. Vital to the economy of nations like Tunisia and Egypt, tourist numbers plummeted by up to one-third at a loss of billions of dollars. 

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), international tourist arrivals in the Middle East declined by 8.4 percent to 54.8 million in 2011 after growing nearly 15 percent the year before. The numbers would have fallen even further if "safe" destinations like the United Arab Emirates hadn't snatched up the diverted tourists. 

... Tourism, one of Egypt's largest industries, plummeted in 2011 by more than one-third over the previous year.

WELL, PROBABLY THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THING WE CAN DO IN THE NEAR TERM IS TO GET A NEW PRESIDENT THAT UNDERSTANDS WHAT IT TAKES TO GET THE ECONOMY GOING. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I WOULD DO. 

I’D NUMBER ONE, MAKE SURE THAT WE TAP OUR ENERGY RESOURCES AND PUT A LOT OF PEOPLE TO WORK IN THE ENERGY SECTOR. 

NUMBER TWO, I'D KILL OBAMA CARE. IT IS SCARING SMALL BUSINESS FROM HIRING. 

NUMBER THREE, I’D PUT AMERICA ON TRACK TO BALANCE OUR BUDGET SO THAT AGAIN PEOPLE KNOW THAT INVESTING IN AMERICA IS GOING TO YIELD A RETURN IN DOLLARS WORTH SOMETHING. AND ALSO OPEN UP NEW MARKETS FOR AMERICAN TRADE SO WE CAN SELL MORE PRODUCTS AROUND THE WORLD. AND I WOULD CHANGE OUR LABOR MANAGEMENT FIELD, THE NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS BOARD IS AGAIN SCARING EMPLOYERS FROM HIRING PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY. 

WE ALSO WANT TO LOWER TAX RATES ON EMPLOYERS SO THEY CAN MAKE IT EASIER TO HIRE PEOPLE. ALL OF THESE THINGS COME TOGETHER TO SAY, YOU PUT TOGETHER A PRO-GROWTH, PRO-INVESTMENT, PRO-JOBS, PRO-JOB CREATING PHILOSOPHY AND STRATEGY AND AMERICAN EMPLOYERS WILL START HIRING AGAIN.

Venezuela has brought a new gun law into effect which bans the commercial sale of firearms and ammunition. Until now, anyone with a gun permit could buy arms from a private company. Under the new law, only the army, police and certain groups like security companies will be able to buy arms from the state-owned weapons manufacturer and importer.

UN OFFICIAL FANS MORE HATE-FLAMES AGAINST ISRAEL

WND reports that another UN employee is inciting against Israel with the use of more falsely linked pictures:

UNITED NATIONS – Israel is battling the United Nations over a U.N. employee who tweeted a false claim of child-killing against the Israel Defense Forces.

The Internet posting alleged that the IDF was responsible for the death of a girl in Gaza. It was accompanied by the image of a man carried a gravely injured and bloodied young girl.

Israeli officials say the falsely captioned photo has gone viral and is posing a serious security threat to civilians in the region because it could incite violence. Israeli sources have confirmed they believe the goal of the posting was to create a dangerous situation for their citizens.

The photograph was pulled from a 2006 archive that documented an accident unrelated to the IDF in which the girl was injured.

When the Tweet was sent several months ago, Ron Prosor, Israel’s United Nations ambassador, promptly filed a complaint and asked that action be taken against the U.N. staff member, Kulhood Badawi, an information and media coordinator in the humanitarian affairs office in the U.N.’s Jerusalem complex.

But nothing has been done, apparently.

Prosor said it’s been long enough.

He wrote in an email: “It is outrageous that three months have passed, and Kulhood Badawi is still on the U.N.’s payroll. OCHA (Office of Humanitarian Affairs) expects Israel to provide it with information at the drop of a hat, but finds every excuse to delay action and stall for time when its own employee who is in charge of information has been caught red-handed spreading misinformation.”

He continued, “If the U.N. wants Israel to take assertions of objectivity with any shred of seriousness, it should expedite the investigation and take action to terminate Ms. Badawi.”

Martin Nesirky, spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, declined to comment other than to say the investigation still “is under way.”

Israeli diplomatic sources say if the U.N. continues to delay the review, a procedure Prosor publicly has labeled a “whitewash,” Israel could consider acting on its own. One of the options is to expel Badawi from Jerusalem.

The latest developments came after Israel became fed up with trying to obtain a resolution from the office of Valerie Amos, a former cabinet member for Tony Blair and the highest ranking British national in the world body in her position as under secretary-general for humanitarian affairs.

Well of course you can't rely on a Brit, certainly not one who worked for Blair when he was UK's prime minister. Badawi most definitely should be banished from Israel altogether for his obscene framing tactics, and Israel would do well enough to quit the UN.

New figures show German exports up 5.8 percent in 2012's first quarter over the same period last year, but slowing within the key European Union market and dropping sharply in those European nations worst hit by the financial crisis.
