The Israel Defense Forces placed an Iron Dome anti-rocket battery in the Gush Dan region of central Israel for the first time on Monday as part of the IDF’s continued testing of the anti-rocket system. The army had planned to test the system’s functioning in central Israel a few weeks ago, but with the recent outbreak of rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, the batteries were deployed in the south to protect Israeli citizens there. 

The IDF said that Iron Dome’s deployment in central Israel was strictly part of the system’s operational testing, which will continue in other areas throughout the country as part of a pre-planned yearly training schedule.

APPLE FACTORY IN CHINA BUYING SHARP?

In another sign of Chinese manufacturing’s ascent as Japan struggles, the Taiwanese giant Foxconn will become the largest shareholder in Sharp, a former exemplar of Japan’s electronics empire that has lately fallen on hard times. 

Besides giving Sharp a much needed injection of money, the Foxconn deal, announced here Tuesday, will aim to help the Japanese company restore profitability to its TV manufacturing and liquid crystal display businesses. 

Sharp is a big maker of flat-panel television sets and still considered an innovator in liquid crystal display, or LCD, technology. But the company is hemorrhaging money. And, like its compatriots Sony and Panasonic, Sharp has lost ground to more nimble South Korean companies like Samsung and LG. 

Foxconn, whose formal name is Hon Hai Precision Industry Group, has become a world leader on the strength of its sprawling factory campuses on the Chinese mainland. It is primarily a contract manufacturer, with premier clients that include Apple.

Former NAACP leader C.L. Bryant is accusing Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton of “exploiting” the Trayvon Martin tragedy to “racially divide this country.”

“His family should be outraged at the fact that they’re using this child as the bait to inflame racial passions,” Rev. C.L. Bryant said in a Monday interview with The Daily Caller.

The conservative black pastor who was once the chapter president of the Garland, Texas NAACP called Jackson and Sharpton “race hustlers” and said they are “acting as though they are buzzards circling the carcass of this young boy.”

There is more to it than just that. Trayvon's mother has moved to copyright trademarks associated with the burgeoning movement:

Every time a Muslim commits murder in the name of Islam, the denial begins again: Western leaders and the mainstream media tie themselves into knots trying to explain what happened without making any reference to its guiding motivation.

Last week was no different: Muhammad Merah was a self-styled "Islamic warrior" who killed a rabbi and several children at a Jewish day school in Toulouse, France, in an attack that the international media widely reported initially as having been perpetrated by a neo-Nazi. When it became clear that Merah was actually a jihadist, the predictable denial began: French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that the attack had nothing to do with Islam, and the call echoed worldwide not to allow the murders to harm French "pluralism."

In fact, however, Muhammad Merah's murders had everything to do with Islam: he claimed affiliation with al-Qaeda and may have trained with the Taliban, both of which are explicitly and ostentatiously Muslim groups that justify all their actions by reference to the Qur'an and Sunnah. He claimed to be a mujahid, which is a warrior of jihad, which is an Islamic theological and legal concept. He killed Muslim soldiers who fought in the infidel military -- something that only someone who considered one's loyalty to the umma to trump all other loyalties would have done.

Indeed, so grounded is Merah's massacre in Islam that it is virtually inconceivable that he would have carried it out had he not been a Muslim. And so Sarkozy is, like every other leader in the Western world today, whistling in the dark, trying to pretend that there is no problem when there is a huge problem, and basing the future of his nation on the fantasy that the overwhelming majority of Muslims in France do not believe the same things Muhammad Merah believed.

Charles Blow had this to say about it:

As the father of two black teenage boys, this case hits close to home. This is the fear that seizes me whenever my boys are out in the world: that a man with a gun and an itchy finger will find them “suspicious.” That passions may run hot and blood run cold. That it might all end with a hole in their chest and hole in my heart. That the law might prove insufficient to salve my loss.

That is the burden of black boys in America and the people that love them: running the risk of being descended upon in the dark and caught in the cross-hairs of someone who crosses the line.

Is that really what Charles Blow has to fear? Or is the real threat to his young black sons in New York City somewhat different?

Blow is right about one thing: Black boys do face a much higher chance than non-blacks that they will be shot when they are “out in the world.” Black males between the ages of 14 and 24 were seven times more likely to die of homicide in 2007 than white and Hispanic males of the same age group combined. But the danger they face comes overwhelmingly from other black males, whose homicide offending rate in the 14 to 24 age category was nearly ten times higher than that of young white and Hispanic males combined. (The federal government’s crime data puts Hispanics and whites in a single category of “white,” thus overstating the non-Hispanic white offending and victimization rates). Most homicides are intraracial, but the chance of a black being killed by a white or Hispanic is much lower than the chance that a white or Hispanic will be killed by a black. Seventeen percent of what the FBI calls “white” homicide victims in 2009 were killed by blacks, compared to 8 percent of black homicide victims who were killed by “whites.” There were two and a half times as many white and Hispanic victims of black killers in 2009 as there were black victims of white and Hispanic killers, even though the black population is one-sixth that of whites and Hispanics combined. If Hispanics were removed from the category of “white” killers of blacks, the percentage of blacks killed by Anglo whites would plummet, since a significant percentage of what the FBI calls “white”-on-black killings represent gang warfare between Hispanic and black gangs. (Needless to say, there is no reason to think that racism plays a more frequent role in white-on-black killings than in black-on-white killings.)

Blow’s fear that his children will be blown away by a white is particularly ludicrous in New York City. Blacks commit 80 percent of all shootings in the city — as reported by the victims of and witnesses to those shootings — though they are but 23 percent of the population; whites commit 1.4 percent of all shootings, though they are 35 percent of the population. Add Hispanic shootings to the black tally, and you account for 98 percent of all of the city’s gun violence. In New York, as in big cities across the country, the face of violence is overwhelmingly black and Hispanic.

Blow's racist fear of "The Other" has blinded him to the real danger that his sons court on the streets of New York. Compounded, of course, by his incessant political axe-grinding. When all you have is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail. When your side's policies have failed - again and again and again - and all you have left is the effort to gin up race grievance and race hatred, then you will end up as nothing more than a race monger.

THE EPIDEMIC OF BLACK MEN BEING MURDERED

Jesse Jackson is right when he said that "blacks are under attack."

In particular, young black men are under attack - deadly attack.

Althought they comprise only 5% of the population, black men comprise almost 50% of the murder victims each year in the United States.

Why is this? Is it because of white racist vigilantes gone wild, as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Barack Obama would like you to believe?

Not exactly.

If you take a mid-sized midwestern city, and look at the 2011 murder statistics in detail, you might get a more accurate picture of the real problem.

In 2011, there were 69 homicides in the city of Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Enquirer posted a table with the names and demographics of the victims (and where data were available, the "alleged perpetrators") here.

Only two of the 69 people killed were white. A white man who was shot by police after he pulled a knife on them. A white woman was shot to death by a black man for reasons that have not been made clear.

60 of the homicide victims were black men. Two of them were shot by police. The rest - 58 black men - were murdered.

One of them was stabbed to death at home in a fight with his white girlfriend.

The rest - 57 black men - were murdered by other black men.

See for yourself. And the same could be shown for every city in the United States.

Jesse, Al, and Barry are right - young black men are under attack - from young black men.

To pretend that the "real problem" is anything but that -- to pretend that young black men are being killed off by white racist hoodlums and vigilantes -- is to indulge in a race-baiting lie that hides the truth and thereby makes it more difficult to solve the real problem. It is tantamount to aiding and abetting the murderers, after the fact, covering the glaring and sobering reality with a self-congratulatory smokescreen of easy mendacity.

If you want to solve the problem, the first thing you have to do is identify it and understand it, not deny it and conceal it.

Evidently Jesse, Al, and Barry don't really want to stop the epidemic of young black men being murdered. They just want to use it to further their own fortunes, economic and political.
