... However, they failed to discover his bomb plot and appear to have done nothing to check why he wanted the chemicals or to have monitored him in the months before he launched his murderous rampage.

Janne Kristiansen head of the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), said that Breivik’ came to police’s attention because of a purchase from a Polish business selling chemicals, but the incident was judged too insignificant to warrant a follow-up.

This is further proof that we need to be more vigilant against terrorism, not less.

Anders Breivik planned to spend £1,800 on a prostitute just a week before killing 93 people.

PBS says the collection was judged Saturday by Asian art expert Lark Mason at a taping in Tulsa, Okla., to be worth $1 million to $1.5 million. That's easily the most valuable item brought in for appraisal in the history of "Antiques Roadshow," which will air its 16th season next year.

WASH POST: U.S. anti-gunrunning effort turns fatally wrong

They came from all over the country, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, brought here in a bold new effort to shut down the flow of U.S. guns to Mexican drug cartels. It was called Operation Fast and Furious, after a popular movie about street car racing.

But from the beginning, much of the fury was inside the agency itself.
On his first day undercover, John Dodson, who had been an ATF agent for seven years in Virginia, sat in a Chevy Impala with Olindo Casa, an 18-year veteran from Chicago. They watched a suspected gun trafficker buy 10 semi-automatic rifles from a Phoenix gun store and followed him to the house of another suspected trafficker. All of their training told them to seize the guns.
The agents called their superior and asked for the order to “take him.” The answer came back swiftly, instructing them to stay in the car. The message was clear: Let the guns go.

This was all part of an ambitious new strategy allowing Fast and Furious agents to follow the paths of guns from illegal buyers known as “straw purchasers” through middlemen and into the hierarchy of the powerful Sinaloa drug cartel.

But Dodson and Casa were confused and upset. ATF agents hate to let the guns “walk.” Yet it happened again, day after day, month after month, for more than a year.

They feared the worst, and a year later it happened: A Border Patrol agent was killed in an incident involving Fast and Furious guns. And it was later revealed that the operation had allowed more than 2,000 weapons to hit the streets.

It is the agency’s biggest debacle since the 1993 deadly shootout in Waco, Tex. What began as a mutiny inside ATF’s Phoenix office has blown up into a Capitol Hill donnybrook that is rocking the Justice Department.

“This is a mistake that could have and should have been prevented,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which is investigating the operation.

I think maybe the GOP should agree to a few tax increases in the deal - (cessation of some loopholes and NOT INCOME TAX RATE INCREASES!), and call them the Obama taxes and them run against them in 2012.

It might be the only way to get a deal, and it would give the GOP the ability to blame Obama and the Dems for the double dip which may very happen as a result.

And he was also a member on a nazi forum. I don't see what's so pro-Christian/Israel about that. I wish he'd get the death sentence, but Norway is so truly awful with their political and judicial system, there's no chance he ever will.

IRANIAN AND HIZB'ALLAH THREAT GROWING IN SOUTH AMERICA

The world needs to act to counter the growing presence of Iranian-supported terrorist organizations throughout South America, former chief of staff of the Peruvian Armed Forces, Gen. Francisco Contreras, told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

Contreras served as the head of the Peruvian Military until about half a year ago, when he retired after 42 years of service. He was in Israel this week on a private visit.

“We definitely need to be concerned with the growing presence of Iran in South America,” Contreras said. “It appears that Iranian organizations provide support to other terrorist organizations, and that there is cooperation between them.”

Hezbollah is known to maintain strongholds in South America – particularly in the area connecting Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay – where its supporters are actively involved in drug-smuggling, arms-trafficking, money-laundering, fraud and intellectual-property piracy.

Israel and the Untied States are also increasingly concerned with the alliance Venezuela has forged with Iran.

FRANCE ENDING BAN ON ARMS TRADE WITH ISRAEL

A positive step found in Israel's relations with France:

After more than 40 years, France has ended its ban on weapons trade with Israel. Paris has decided to purchase the Heron TP (Eitan) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from Israel Aerospace Industries.

With a wingspan just about as wide as a Boeing 737 (26 meters), the Eitan flies up to an altitude of 40,000 feet and can remain airborne for up to 36 hours. The drone is able to carry a wide variety of equipment with which to conduct its reconnaissance missions due to its size – possibly even missiles.

The Eitan went into service in Israel approximately 18 months ago, and is the first military equipment purchase from Israel by France in 42 years. This is also the first time the Eitan has been sold to a foreign nation.

It was then-President Charles de Gaulle who imposed the weapons sales embargo, barring the sale of a French jet to Israel that was developed with Israeli technology.

That event spurred Israel's government to ensure that no foreign power would ever again have the ability to clip the wings of the IDF.

The supposedly pro-Israel de Gaulle - one of the so-called freedom fighters who allowed Haj-Amin el-Husseini to flee from justice and may even be responsible for any disaster in Algeria - was the very politician who led to that atrocious policy of not developing arms sales between France and Israel. Now, that policy has wisely been lifted, and it could benefit France tremendously, certainly if they use it for positive purposes.

EGYPT BANNING FOREIGN ELECTION OBSERVERS FOR FIRST "DEMOCRATIC" ELECTION

A strong and sad sign that all may not go over well in post-Mubarak Egypt:

Egyptian rights activists are raising strong concerns after the country's military rulers banned international observers for the first elections of the post-Mubarak era.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, the military junta that took over after President Hosni Mubarak was pushed out, said Wednesday that elections will be delayed to November, two months later than originally expected. International monitors will not be permitted on the grounds of national sovereignty, said Maj. Gen. Mamdouh Shahin, the military council's legislative adviser.

"This is a very terrible development," says Bahey El Din Hassan, director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies. "It was usual to hear this from the Mubarak regime because the elections were always fraudulent."

But for the military to take the same position, citing the same excuse the Mubarak regime used, "raises serious questions about the credibility of the coming election," he says.

A fair vote is vital to establishing both domestic and international trust in Egypt's new government, and international monitors would be a natural way to ensure one, says Mr. Hassan. Election fraud was rife throughout the 30 years of Mubarak's rule. Parliamentary elections held in November and December of last year were widely seen as some of the most fraudulent in Egypt's modern history.

And so we learn that this is little more than a continuation of common "policies" in an Islamic dominated country, where Mubarak was overlord and kept it that way until recently, yet with any Islamist fiends around, there's no chance there'll ever be a change from even his tactics of tyranny.
