In each of these, the administration either has or is planning regulations worth thousands of pages which are going to raise costs, as we know, but also are going to interact in ways that nobody understands and that are going to create uncertainty.

If you‘re trying to figure out who you‘re going to hire and how many, and you have no idea if you’re going to be able to afford the extra health-care costs, you‘re not going to hire.

With energy and cap-and-trade, you know it’s going to increase the cost of energy.

And with the cost of money, the financial regulations are not just going to affect the big banks, but this consumer agency — so-called — is going to involve itself and regulate every kind of lending from auto dealers to shirt-makers.

So in every area, there‘s going to be an increase in uncertainty.

You know there’s going to be an increase in regulation.

And when you don't know what’s going to happen, you don't invest. [That's why] we are having a capital strike.

MORE REGS AND MORE TAXES CAN NEVER REVIVE AN ECONOMY.

President Barack Obama is trying to bring home some of the much-lauded strategies his predecessor used to fight AIDS around the world.

The national strategy for combatting HIV and AIDS the Obama administration released Tuesday credits the Bush-era international campaign against AIDS for setting clear targets and ensuring a variety of agencies and groups worked together smoothly to achieve them.

George W. Bush launched the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR in 2003 in 15 countries, 12 of them African, that bear most of the world's AIDS burden. It has helped to treat more than 2 million Africans and supported 10 million more.

''The people here are so incredibly grateful for the impact it has had,'' said Kate Bistline, an official with Right to Care, a South African AIDS group that receives PEPFAR funds.

Bistline said a key to PEPFAR's success has been having simple, compelling goals -- preventing new HIV infections, treating people with AIDS and caring for orphans and others affected by AIDS.

''It's there, it's clear, and it's something you can grab onto,'' she said. ''PEPFAR's been quite good about communicating what its overall goal is, and ... making everybody feel we're working toward the same goal. And that's not always the case with a big international donor.''

Bistline also praised PEPFAR for encouraging government agencies, aid groups and private companies to work together.

The fact that Obama is going to try to replocate Bush's policies disproves the idea that Bush was a racist homophobe.

In fact, Geldof and Bono have long praised Bush's efforts:

Mr. Geldof praised Mr. Bush for his work in delivering billions to fight disease and poverty in Africa, and blasted the U.S. press for ignoring the achievement.

Mr. Bush, said Mr. Geldof, "has done more than any other president so far."

Registered voters are closely divided on the question of whether they will back Republicans or Democrats in House races. Among those who say they are sure to cast ballots in November, 49 percent side with the GOP and 45 percent with Democrats.

Overall, a slim majority of all voters say they would prefer Republican control of Congress so that the legislative branch would act as a check on the president's policies. Those most likely to vote in the midterms prefer the GOP over continued Democratic rule by a sizable margin of 56 percent to 41 percent.

THOUGH JORDAN WOULD DESERVE IT, IT'S UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN

According to reports in the Arabic media, the US has threatened to cut aid to Jordan if it doesn't coordinate its uranium development with Israel:

The United States has threatened to cut financial aid to Jordan, if the Hashemite Kingdom continues to develop its nuclear program without coordinating with Israel, the Arab media reported on Monday.

The American threat comes after Amman rejected Israeli demands to participate in extraction and enrichment of uranium, and Jordan's failure to obtain US approval for its nuclear plan, despite talks between the two parties, which lasted six months.

According to reports, the ultimatum was probably given to Amman days after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judah.

In 2007, at least 65, 000 tons of uranium ore was found in the Jordanian desert, making it one of the largest deposits in the world.

The Hashemite Kingdom has claimed its enrichment program was aimed at reducing dependency on petroleum imports. Ninety five percent of Jordan's energy consumption is supplied by other countries, mainly Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Obviously, I'm skeptical of their claims, because uranium is a material that can be made into a dangerous explosive, just as it can be a fuel for producing electricity. Who knows that they aren't following in the footsteps of Iran by coming up with their own nuclear weapons, which could be used to much more dangerous effect against Israel in the future because it'd be much closer? And Jordan's ties with Israel have been withering as Islamofascism builds up in their backyard.

Yet I don't forsee the US government under Obama making any serious effort to cut down their funding if they aren't taking any serious steps against Iran.

The Mexican baseball league has been forced to suspend a game in progress because of gunfire at a stadium.

The game between the Broncos at their home stadium in Reynosa and the Monterrey Sultans was suddenly interrupted when gunshots were heard.

Witnesses said the baseball players ran for cover and dived into their dugouts.

Panic spread through the crowd of spectators after a group of unknown gunmen exchanged fire on Sunday.

Baseball officials then took the decision to stop the game.

There are no reports of casualties.

A spokesman for the league, Gabriel Medina, said: "We had to re-schedule for security reasons.

"This is an unprecedented incident," he added.

The game will resume on Friday in the city of Monterrey.

War on drugs

However, Monterrey has also seen a recent upsurge in drug-related violence with at least five people killed there at the weekend - one of them decapitated.

Authorities in Reynosa don't know whether the shootings at the Adolfo Lopez Mateo stadium are linked to organised drugs gangs.

But security analysts say drug-related violence in Mexico is spiralling out of control.

MEXICO IS A FAILED STATE.

Desperate heroin users in a few African cities have begun engaging in a practice that is so dangerous it is almost unthinkable: they deliberately inject themselves with another addict’s blood, researchers say, in an effort to share the high or stave off the pangs of withdrawal.

The practice, called flashblood or sometimes flushblood, is not common, but has been reported in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on the island of Zanzibar and in Mombasa, Kenya.

It puts users at the highest possible risk of contracting AIDS and hepatitis. While most AIDS transmission in Africa is by heterosexual sex, the use of heroin is growing in some cities, and experts are warning that flashblood — along with syringe-sharing and other dangerous habits — could fuel a new wave of AIDS infections.

“Injecting yourself with fresh blood is a crazy practice — it’s the most effective way of infecting yourself with H.I.V.,” said Dr. Nora D. Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, which supports the researchers who discovered the practice. “Even though the number who do it is a relatively small group, they are vectors for H.I.V. because they support themselves by sex work.”

MY LUNCH WITH FIDEL

A very liberal acquaintance of mine went to see a movie praising Fidel the other day. He dug it.

This lib is the kind of person who is still saying Bush "STOLE" the election, but somehow forgives Fidel and Raul for not even having one once in the last 60 years.

But deep down this lib has some decent American values - values which run counter to the leftist dogma he so doggedly follows. He forgives Fidel becasue his partisan comnrades do, not becasue he has fully thought it out.

So I figgered I'd use the chasm between his values and the party line to open his eyes.

Here's what I said to him:

I said.... what if me and him and his richy-rich buddy went to lunch one day at his favorite restaurant. Me - being poor - ordered pasta for $30; he ordered osso bucco for $50, and his rich pal ordered truffles and foie gras and veal chops for $100. TOTAL: $180.

It was delicious.

The bill comes; we each fork up what we owe on what we each ordered.

A few minutes later the maitre'd returns; he says that because we were their 1,000,000 table served we're gonna get 50% off our bill and he puts $90 bucks on the table.

So... I asked my lib friend, what's the FAIREST most JUST way to distribute the $90? Should we split it evenly and each get $30? Or should we each get 50% off of what we each put in?

My lib friend said - without hesitation: we should each get back half of what we each put in: me $15; him $25 and his rich pal $50.

I then told him he just endorsed the Bush tax cuts.

He turned pale and his jaw dropped.

On a deep level, he realized that all the crap he'd heard and repeated FOR YEARS about the Bush Tax Cuts was total bullshit. The Bush Tax Cuts were indeed fair; they were not a tax break for the rich; everyone got back the same percentage of what they put in.

I told him he was a neocon at heart!

I then rubbed it in a little: I told him if he voted his values and not his party them he'd vote GOP sometimes.

I told him he should use his own values to figger out where he stood on any given issue and not wait to see what the editors of the NYTIMES said or columnists at THE NATION.

Many people on the left are the same way: they're on the left now because that's where they've been for decades; it's the circle they travel in and the papers they read, the TV shows and movies they see.

What we need to do to OPEN THEIR EYES is show them that leftist policies do not reflect most of the values they hold dear, nor do they achieve the social goals they've long hoped for.

If leftist policies worked than there'd still be a USSR, and Cuba and North Korea would be richer more wonderful places than they are; they wouldn't be places that people risk death to escape.

Conservative policies work. It's why and how Reagan and Thatcher saved the West.

Conservative policies have made South Korea a prosperous place, and the absence of these values is why North Korea is hell on Earth.

We need to deprogram as many people on the left as we can if we want to defeat leftism and jihadism.

We need as many of them as possible to open up their eyes before November.

Ibrahin Savant 29, Arafat Waheed Khan, 29, and Waheed Zaman, 26, were convicted last week of conspiracy for being part of a group that planned to detonate liquid explosives hidden in drink bottles, attacks that could have killed people on a similar scale to Sept. 11, 2001.

It gets old pointing it out, but the words "Islam" and "Muslim" do not appear anywhere in this NYT article.

We can be quite sure these three men would tell us straight up, if they were asked, that they planned on killing Infidels because that's what Allah tells them to do IN THE KRAYON.

Despite the fact that we have been told, over and over, by Muslims, that they kill us because they are ordered to do so in their sacred texts, THE LEFT (which controls the White houde and the MSM) insists on keeping up the charade that it is just a few "extremists".

Ill. Cousins Being Sentenced in Antimilitary Plot


TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- A federal judge in Ohio is sentencing two Chicago-area cousins who pleaded guilty in a plot to recruit terrorists and raise money for a holy war against U.S. troops.

U.S. attorneys say the two were training to kill American soldiers in Iraq as part of a plot organized by three men in Toledo.

Prosecutors planned to recommend a nine-year term for Khaleel Ahmed of Chicago and 10 years for Zubair Ahmed of suburban North Chicago. The sentencing hearing began late Monday morning.

Both men pleaded guilty in January 2009 to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists.

Authorities say the men once traveled to Egypt intending to commit violence and that they met with an FBI informant and talked about learning to shoot machine guns and sniper rifles.

In both cases, the Democratic presidents had alienated moderate and conservative voters and found themselves increasingly isolated with a political base of liberals and minorities. In each instance, the president worried that off-year election turnout among their base would be attenuated both because it always is in non-presidential years and because their policy failings had reduced the enthusiasm they found among their base voters. And both men found themselves forced to escalate their rhetoric and move their ideological positions to the left in order to try to drum up the kind of turnout they needed to keep power in Congress.

AN IGNORED ATTACK BY SYRIA AGAINST KURDS

Jonathan Spyer at the Gloria Center writes about something that's gone unnoticed in Syria:

On March 21, 2010, the Syrian security forces opened fire with live ammunition on a crowd of 5,000 in the northern Syrian town of al-Raqqah. The crowd had gathered to celebrate the Kurdish festival of Nowruz. Three people, including a 15-year-old girl, were killed. Over 50 were injured. Dozens of injured civilians were held incommunicado by the authorities following the events. Some remain incarcerated. This incident was just one example of the repression taking place of the largest national minority in Syria - namely, the Syrian Kurdish population.

Kurds constitute 9 percent-10% of the population of Syria - that is, around 1.75 million in a total population of 22 million. Since the rise of militant Arab nationalism to power in Damascus, they have faced an ongoing campaign for their dissolution as a community.

All this is taking place far from the spotlight of world attention. The current US Administration pursues a general policy of considered silence on the issue of human rights in Middle East countries. The Syrian regime remains the elusive subject of energetic courting by the European Union and by Washington.

As a result, the Kurds of Syria are likely for the foreseeable future to remain the region's forgotten minority.

We should be thankful for the internet. A serious offense was committed by Syria, yet no political systems in the world care about it. And if Syria continues with these atrocities, they are not deserving of recognition.

HMMM: LEBANON SENDS 5000 TROOPS TO SOUTHERN/ISRAELI BORDER REGION

Lebanon is sending as many as 5,000 additional soldiers to the country’s south following clashes between civilians and UN troops and Israel’s warning that Hizbullah is preparing for a new war there.

“Some measures had to be taken to make sure no such incidents take place in the future,” Nawaf Salam, Lebanon’s ambassador to the UN, said in an interview on Friday, referring to three attacks on French peacekeeping troops since June 29.

The commander of the United Nations’ 12,000 soldiers and civilian police in southern Lebanon appealed for calm this week, in an open letter to the region’s population, while France called a meeting on Friday in New York of the UN Security Council to receive a report on the issue.

“We wanted to emphasize the seriousness of the situation,” Gerard Araud, France’s ambassador to the UN, told reporters after the meeting. “These incidents have given rise to apprehension and concern. We cannot accept obstacles to freedom of movement [of UN troops].”

The members of the Security Council “strongly deplore” the clashes with peacekeepers and urge the Lebanese army to send reinforcements to the border area with Israel, according to a statement adopted after the briefing.

The tensions came as Israel said Hizbullah is preparing for fighting.

A senior official with the militant Hezbollah group says they have a list of military targets inside Israel to hit in any future war.

Hezbollah commander in south Lebanon, Sheik Nabil Kaouk, made his comments Sunday in response to this week's release by Israel's military of maps and aerial photographs of what it described as a network of Hezbollah weapons depots and command centers in south Lebanon.

• The Left thinks that all we need to do to increase employment is RAISE taxes and INCREASE regulations.

• The Left thinks that all we need to do to make the world safer is reduce defense spending and be nicer to our enemies.

• The Left thinks that instead of qualification-based criteria we need to use more race-based and/or gender-based factors to make society more fair.

• The Left thinks that CO2 - a substance necessary for life on Earth - is a pollutant.

• The Left thinks Fidel and Raul Castro - who haven't had a real elections in 60 years - are better than Bush who "stole" an election.

• The Left thinks that government bureaucrats can run the healthcare industry, save money, and take better care of YOUR health than you and your doctor.

These positions - which reveal presuppositions and values which truly lie at what is now the very core of leftist ideology - are absurd.

Nevertheless, the Left maintains some appeal among the electorate. WHY? SIMPLE: they control the Academy and the Media and are therefore able to continuously indoctrinate a new generation - and retain a fairly high percentage each year.

The Left's ability to propagandize even this percentage is waning as new media strengthens.

If we keep up the pressure, then we can completely defeat the Left.

A major turning point is coming up in November. We can send a message to the entire left which will be even more powerful than the ones sent by Scott Brown and Chris Christie.

Patrick Hemingway, 82, walked into Schnee's Boots and Shoes on Main Street Friday night wearing a worn pair of H.S. Trask loafers and walked out wearing a new pair of shoes that bore his last name.

Schnee's is the first store in the nation to carry Thomas Raymond & Co.'s new Hemingway line of men's footwear, inspired by Patrick's father, author Ernest Hemingway.

... "A lot of celebrity endorsements are phony, but not in this case. Hemingway had a great sense of style. He especially loved leather boots from Madrid."

Thomas Raymond & Co. founders Chad Gombas and Gregg Jackson have been developing the line for the past year and a half, said vice president of sales, Jeff Gorham.

"Hemingway's name is just iconic," Gorham said. "It's a beckoning back to true Americana. He's both a real romantic and a man's man."

... The Hemingway shoes, priced between $150 and $235, are handmade in El Salvador using bison and calf hide.

Thomas Raymond & Co. has an initial batch of 30,000 pairs to distribute among 12 different retailers around the U.S. The full product launch is planned for fall of this year.

The Hemingway line is divided into angler, literary and sportsman collections, to reflect different aspects of the author's personality.
