Racist speech from an Obama "Czar"

And he doesn't like free speech either:
"President Obama's diversity czar at the Federal Communications Commission has spoken publicly of getting white media executives to "step down" in favor of minorities, prescribed policies to make liberal talk radio more successful, and described Hugo Chavez's rise to power in Venezuela "an incredible revolution."

Mark Lloyd's provocative comments - most made during a tenure at the liberal Center for American Progress think tank - are giving fodder to critics who say Mr. Obama has appointed too many "czars" to government positions that don't require congressional approval. They are also worrying to some conservatives who fear the FCC might use its powers to remove their competitive advantage on talk radio and television.

Mr. Lloyd spoke about the need to remove white people from powerful positions in the media to give minorities a fairer chance. "There's nothing more difficult than this because we have really truly, good, white people in important positions, and the fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of those positions," he said. "And unless we are conscious of the need to have more people of color, gays, other people in those positions, we will not change the problem. But we're in a position where you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power."

Other bloggers are questioning Mr. Lloyd's commitment to free speech based on a line in his 2006 book, "Prologue to a Farce: Communication and Democracy in America": "At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies," Mr. Lloyd wrote. "The purpose of free speech is warped to protect global corporations and block rules that would promote democratic governance."

How would it go down if we said that there are too many blacks making a fortune in some sports so we need to get rid of a lot of them to give whites a chance at getting all that money?

APPEASEMENT AND OBAMA: THE ROAD TO RUIN

Innovative Plan Offered to Save Newspapers

Raised an avid consumer of newspaper journalism, I went on to earn a journalism degree from Oklahoma State University and hold a variety of professional positions, most of which afforded me opportunities to work with and among professional journalists on a daily basis. So it goes without saying -- and with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek -- that I want to do my part to assist influential elected officials in their effort to keep the nation's newspaper industry from going under. Among them, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Earlier this year, Speaker Pelosi recently urged the Justice Department to consider giving Bay Area papers more leeway to merge or consolidate business operations to stay afloat, according to a report at SFGate.com, the online home of the struggling Hearst Corporation-owned San Francisco Chronicle.

More recently, however, President Barack Obama joined Pelosi in her desire to help struggling newspapers. In fact, he told The Hill, saying he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses. Newspapers deserve help, right? Of course, they do.

While I think the hearts of both the speaker and the president are in the right place on this issue, I'm doubtful that a legal rearrangement of the newspaper industry's "deck chairs" will produce the desired results. That's why I'm proposing a different solution:

The job of running the nation's major newspapers -- including those in the Bay Area -- should be turned over to the inmates in state prisons. As a launching pad for this project, inmates at San Quentin State Prison can take over operations at the nearby Chronicle.

Though at first blush appearing preposterous, my solution is likely to work out as well or better than the newspaper model that has been in decline for most of the past two decades. Below are several of the reasons why it should work:
  • It already circulates inside and outside the prison walls;
  • It boasts a circulation of 7,500; and
  • It costs very little to produce.
To meet the increased circulation and daily deadlines associated with running the Chronicle, the San Quentin News staff will need to grow. To fill those staffing needs and, at the same time, relieve overcrowding, inmates can be given jobs at the Chronicle immediately.

Under my plan, they would be offered jobs as beat reporters, distribution specialists and collection agents for the new Chronicle, and people would subscribe -- I guarantee it!

If the San Quentin News-San Francisco Chronicle project works, it can be duplicated in cities across the state and across the nation. Imagine the possibilities!

REMEMBER FOLKS: THE REAL BATTLE IS NOT BETWEEN MARK LEVIN AND GLEN BECK, BUT GLEN BECK AND THE MSM.

  • GLEN BECK CALLED OBAMA WHAT HE IS - A RACIST - AND GOT HAMMERED BY THE MSM AS A RESULT. AND THE HARDER BECK HITS OBAMA THE HIGHER HIS HUGE RATINGS GO.
  • CHRIS MATTHEWS CALLS OBAMA THE LAST KENNEDY BROTHER, WHILE HIS LEG TINGLES - AND GETS ADULATION FROM THE MSM. AND ABYSMAL RATINGS NUMBERS.
  • WHY!? HOW CAN MATTHEWS AND THE MSM BE SO FAR OFF BASE?
  • THERE'S A HUGE DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE PEOPLE WHO DOMINATE THE MSM AND THE PUBLIC.
  • THE MSM IS DOMINATED BY LEFTISTS, AND THEY'RE THRILLED OBAMA IS GOVERNING AS LEFTIST.
  • WHAT'S WAKING THEM UP?
  • OBAMA'S POLICIES: OBAMA IS GOVERNING AS A LEFTIST.

  • MATTHEWS AND THE MSM - AND OBAMA AND THE DEMS - ARE DOOMED.

OBAMA SIDES WITH ANTI-DEMOCRATIC FORCES AGAIN

TREY HICKS - NRO/CORNER:
Late Sunday night, the United Nations issued its Monday Journal, which lists the heads of state who are addressing the opening of the 64th U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday. Tucked in between Colombia and Russia is Honduras — but the legitimate president of Honduras will not be speaking. The U.N., a majority of whose member states are not “fully free” (according to Freedom House), has invited the ousted would-be dictator of Honduras, disgraced former president Manuel Zelaya, to deliver the address.

This is an outrageous decision, but don’t expect President Obama to stand up for justice and the rule of law. As NR’s Jay Nordlinger recently pointed out, Obama has decided to revoke the visa of Honduran president Roberto Micheletti, preventing his entry into the United States. Obama apparently feels more comfortable sharing a cappuccino in the U.N. Delegates Lounge with a deposed Chávez acolyte than with its authentic, constitutionally legitimate president.

DISGUSTING.

OBAMA IS AN EMEMY OF AND MENACE TO DEMCORACY AND THE FREE WORLD.

OF ELITISTS, TOSCA, FREDERICK E. HART AND OBAMACARE

The NYTimes on the Metropolitan Opera Company's Gala Premier of a new production of Puccini's GREAT opera Tosca:
Harsh booing at the gala opening night of the Metropolitan Opera — where such strong negative reactions are rarely heard, at least in comparison with European opera houses — was still ringing in the ears of the opera world on Tuesday.

The Met defended the new production of Puccini’s “Tosca,” as did its Swiss director, Luc Bondy, who made his debut at the house on Monday night. Audience members, some of whom had paid $1,250 for a ticket, gave ovations to the singers. But when Mr. Bondy took the stage, loud and prolonged booing broke out in parts of the house.

Bloggers called the production pretentious, textually unfaithful and clichéd. But many others found it refreshing and believable.

Peter Gelb, the Met’s general manager, said he was not surprised at the reaction to the production under the circumstances. The Bondy version replaced that of Franco Zeffirelli, a favorite of Met audiences, whose “Tosca” had been a Met staple since 1985.

“There are people in that audience who came there expecting not to like anything,” Mr. Gelb said. “They were perhaps rooted in the past. But I think a lot of the audience enjoyed it and saw it for what it was meant to be, which was a modern, theatrical presentation of a classic in which musical standards were fulfilled.”

Mr. Gelb acknowledged that his director had taken liberties. “But the liberties he took were intelligent ones,” Mr. Gelb added. He said that the rest of the run was sold out and that the production would return next season. “It certainly is the ‘Tosca’ of the immediate future,” he said. “We’re proud of it.”
Mr. Bondy’s vision is a spare one. The sets and costumes are stark. He applies violent and lewd touches. Tosca gashes the portrait of the Magdalene (with a breast bared) painted by her lover, Cavaradossi; Scarpia, the villain, clasps a statue of the Madonna in a sacrilegious embrace; and three lascivious women drape and fondle him in his study at the outset of Act II.

Mr. Bondy said his direction was derived from the text. The picture gashing is a natural extension of Tosca’s jealous rants. Scarpia’s cry, “Tosca, you make me forget God!,” supports his Madonna hug. And Scarpia has clearly stated his fondness for the possessing and disposing of women: hence the three female playthings at the opening of Act II, even though the libretto does not call for them.

The director blamed a strain of hidebound traditionalism for the lusty boos.

“The reaction was very, very violent because they have a ‘Tosca’ since 22 years or 30 years and they don’t want to see something different,” he said. “To think one work exists, and it has a final interpretation, is a problem.”

Mr. Bondy also fired back at Mr. Zeffirelli, who had said in an interview that reports about the new production had led him to view it as a betrayal of Puccini’s intent and called Mr. Bondy a third-rate director.

“I’m a third-rate director, and he is a second assistant of Visconti,” Mr. Bondy said, referring to Mr. Zeffirelli’s early collaborations with the director Luchino Visconti. “I learned to be a director. He didn’t invent Puccini. He’s only Zeffirelli. I’m only Luc Bondy — more, not.”

Renaud Machart, the chief critic of the French newspaper Le Monde, who attended the opening night and gave the production a favorable review, said the booing resulted from ingrained expectations based on “fake traditions” of opera directing.

“But that is typical of many audiences, including France and Europe,” Mr. Machart, said in an interview. “Believe me, I see so many things which are outrageous and stupid and try to do the opposite of what’s in the libretto. This is not what Bondy’s doing.”
An excerpt from the GREAT Tom Wolfe on sculptor Frederick E. hart:

Hart was born in Atlanta to a failed actress and a couldn't-be-bothered newspaper reporter. He was only 3 when his mother died, whereupon he was packed off to an aunt in a part of rural South Carolina where people ate peanuts boiled in salty water. He developed into an incorrigible Conway, S.C., juvenile delinquent, failed the ninth grade on his first try and got thrown out of school on his second. Yet at the age of 16, by then a high-school dropout, he managed, to universal or at least Conway-wide amazement, to gain admission to the University of South Carolina by scoring a composite 35 out of a maximum 36 on an A.C.T. college entrance test, the equivalent of a 1560 on the College Boards.

He lasted six months. He became the lone white student to join 250 black students in a civil rights protest, was arrested, then expelled from the university. Informed that the Ku Klux Klan was looking for him, he fled to Washington.

In Washington he managed to get a job as a clerk at the Washington National Cathedral, a stupendous stone structure built in the Middle English Gothic style. The cathedral employed a crew of Italian masons full time, and Hart became intrigued with their skill at stone carving. Several times he asked the master carver, an Italian named Roger Morigi, to take him on as an apprentice but got nowhere. There was no one on the job but experienced Italians. By and by, Hart got to know the crew and took to borrowing tools and having a go at discarded pieces of stone. Morigi was so surprised by his aptitude, he made him an apprentice after all, and soon began urging him to become a sculptor. Hart turned out to have Giotto's seemingly God-given genius -- Giotto was a sculptor as well as a painter -- for pulling perfectly formed human figures out of stone and clay at will and rapidly.

In 1971, Hart learned that the cathedral was holding an international competition to find a sculptor to adorn the building's west facade with a vast and elaborate spread of deep bas reliefs and statuary on the theme of the Creation. Morigi urged Hart to enter. He entered and won. A working-class boy nobody had ever heard of, an apprentice stone carver, had won what would turn out to be the biggest and most prestigious commission for religious sculpture in America in the 20th century.

The project brought him unimaginable dividends. The erstwhile juvenile delinquent from Conway, S.C., was a creature of hot passions, a handsome, slender boy with long, wavy light brown hair, an artist by night with a rebellious hairdo and a rebellious attitude who was a big hit with the girls. In the late afternoons he had taken to hanging about Dupont Circle in Washington, which had become something of a bohemian quarter. Afternoon after afternoon he saw the same ravishing young woman walking home from work down Connecticut Avenue. His hot Hart flame lit, he introduced himself and asked her if she would pose for his rendition of the Creation, an array of idealized young men and women rising nude from out of the chaotic swirl of Creation's dawn. She posed. They married. Great artists and the models they fell in love with already accounted for the most romantic part of art history. But probably no model in all that lengthy, not to say lubricious, lore was ever so stunningly beautiful as Lindy Lain Hart. Her face and figure were to recur in his work throughout his career.

The hot-blooded boy's passion, as Hart developed his vision of the Creation, could not be consummated by Woman alone. He fell in love with God. For Hart, the process began with his at first purely pragmatic research into the biblical story of the Creation in the Book of Genesis. He had been baptized in the Presbyterian Church, and he was working for the Episcopal Church at the Washington National Cathedral. But by the 1970's, neither of these proper, old-line, in-town Protestant faiths offered the strong wine a boy who was in love with God was looking for. He became a Roman Catholic and began to regard his talent as a charisma, a gift from God. He dedicated his work to the idealization of possibilities God offered man.

From his conception of ''Ex Nihilo,'' as he called the centerpiece of his huge Creation design (literally, ''out of nothing''; figuratively, out of the chaos that preceded Creation), to the first small-scale clay model, through to the final carving of the stone -- all this took 11 years.

In 1982, ''Ex Nihilo'' was unveiled in a dedication ceremony. The next day, Hart scanned the newspapers for reviews . . . The Washington Post . . . The New York Times . . . nothing . . . nothing the next day, either . . . nor the next week . . . nor the week after that. The one mention of any sort was an obiter dictum in The Post's Style (read: Women's) section indicating that the west facade of the cathedral now had some new but earnestly traditional (read: old-fashioned) decoration. So Hart started monitoring the art magazines. Months went by . . . nothing. It reached the point that he began yearning for a single paragraph by an art critic who would say how much he loathed ''Ex Nihilo'' . . . anything, anything at all! . . . to prove there was someone out there in the art world who in some way, however slightly or rudely, cared.

The truth was, no one did, not in the least. ''Ex Nihilo'' never got ex nihilo simply because art worldlings refused to see it.

Hart had become so absorbed in his ''triumph'' that he had next to no comprehension of the American art world as it existed in the 1980's. In fact, the art world was strictly the New York art world, and it was scarcely a world, if world was meant to connote a great many people. In the one sociological study of the subject, ''The Painted Word,'' the author estimated that the entire art ''world'' consisted of some 3,000 curators, dealers, collectors, scholars, critics and artists in New York. Art critics, even in the most remote outbacks of the heartland, were perfectly content to be obedient couriers of the word as received from New York. And the word was that school-of-Renaissance sculpture like Hart's was nonart. Art worldlings just couldn't see it.

The art magazines opened Hart's eyes until they were bleary with bafflement. Classical statues were ''pictures in the air.'' They used a devious means -- skill -- to fool the eye into believing that bronze or stone had turned into human flesh. Therefore, they were artificial, false, meretricious. By 1982, no ambitious artist was going to display skill, even if he had it. The great sculptors of the time did things like have unionized elves put arrangements of rocks and bricks flat on the ground, objects they, the artists, hadn't laid a finger on (Carl Andre), or prop up slabs of Cor-Ten steel straight from the foundry, edgewise (Richard Serra); or they took G.E. fluorescent light tubes straight out of the box from the hardware store and arranged them this way and that (Dan Flavin); or they welded I-beams and scraps of metal together (Anthony Caro). This expressed the material's true nature, its ''gravity'' (no stone pictures floating in the air), its ''objectness.''

This was greatness in sculpture. As Tom Stoppard put it in his play ''Artist Descending a Staircase,'' ''Imagination without skill gives us contemporary art.''

Hart lurched from bafflement to shock, then to outrage. He would force the art world to see what great sculpture looked like.

By 1982, he was already involved in another competition for a huge piece of public sculpture in Washington. A group of Vietnam veterans had just obtained Congressional approval for a memorial that would pay long-delayed tribute to those who had fought in Vietnam with honor and courage in a lost and highly unpopular cause. They had chosen a jury of architects and art worldlings to make a blind selection in an open competition; that is, anyone could enter, and no one could put his name on his entry. Every proposal had to include something -- a wall, a plinth, a column -- on which a hired engraver could inscribe the names of all 57,000-plus members of the American military who had died in Vietnam. Nine of the top 10 choices were abstract designs that could be executed without resorting to that devious and accursed bit of trickery: skill. Only the No. 3 choice was representational. Up on one end of a semicircular wall bearing the 57,000 names was an infantryman on his knees beside a fallen comrade, looking about for help. At the other end, a third infantryman had begun to run along the top of the wall toward them. The sculptor was Frederick Hart.

The winning entry was by a young Yale undergraduate architectural student named Maya Lin. Her proposal was a V-shaped wall, period, a wall of polished black granite inscribed only with the names; no mention of honor, courage or gratitude; not even a flag. Absolutely skillproof, it was.

Many veterans were furious. They regarded her wall as a gigantic pitiless tombstone that said, ''Your so-called service was an absolutely pointless disaster.'' They made so much noise that a compromise was struck. An American flag and statue would be added to the site. Hart was chosen to do the statue. He came up with a group of three soldiers, realistic down to the aglets of their boot strings, who appear to have just emerged from the jungle into a clearing, where they are startled to see Lin's V-shaped black wall bearing the names of their dead comrades.

Naturally enough, Lin was miffed at the intrusion, and so a make-peace get-together was arranged in Plainview, N.Y., where the foundry had just completed casting the soldiers. Doing her best to play the part, Lin asked Hart -- as Hart recounted it -- if the young men used as models for the three soldiers had complained of any pain when the plaster casts were removed from their faces and arms. Hart couldn't imagine what she was talking about. Then it dawned on him. She assumed that he had followed the lead of the ingenious art worldling George Segal, who had contrived a way of sculpturing the human figure without any skill whatsoever: by covering the model's body in wet plaster and removing it when it began to harden. No artist of her generation (she was 21) could even conceive of a sculptor starting out solely with a picture in his head, a stylus, a brick of moist clay and some armature wire. No artist of her generation dared even speculate about . . . skill.

President Ronald Reagan presided at a dedication ceremony unveiling Hart's ''Three Soldiers'' on Veterans Day 1984. The next day, Hart looked for the art reviews . . . in The Washington Post . . . The New York Times . . . and, as time went by, the magazines. And once more, nothing . . . not even the inside-out tribute known as savaging. ''Three Soldiers'' received only so-called civic reviews, the sort of news or feature items or picture captions that say, in effect, ''This thing is big, and it's outdoors, and you may see it on the way to work, and so we should probably tell you what it is.'' Civic reviews of outdoor representational sculpture often don't even mention the name of the sculptor. Why mention the artist -- since it's nonart by definition?

Hart was by no means alone. In 1980, a sculptor named Eric Parks completed a statue of Elvis Presley for downtown Memphis. It was unveiled before a crowd of thousands of sobbing women; it became, and remains, a tremendous tourist attraction; civic reviews only. And who remembers the name Eric Parks? In 1985, a sculptor named Raymond J. Kaskey completed the second-biggest copper sculpture in America -- the Statue of Liberty is the biggest -- an immense Classical figure of a goddess in a toga with her right hand outstretched toward the multitudes. ''Portlandia'' she was called. Tens of thousands of citizens of Portland, Ore., turned out on a Sunday to see her arrive by barge on the Williamette River and get towed downtown. Parents lifted their children so they could touch her fingertips as she was hoisted up to her place atop the porte-cochere of the new Portland Public Services Building; civic reviews only. In 1992, Audrey Flack completed ''Civitas,'' four Classical goddesses, one for each corner of a highway intersection just outside a moribund mill town, Rock Hill, S.C. Has been a major tourist attraction ever since; cars come from all directions to see the goddesses lit up at night; nearby fallow cotton field claiming to be an ''industrial park'' suddenly a sellout; Rock Hill comes alive; civic reviews only.

Over the last 15 years of his life, Hart did something that, in art-world terms, was even more infra dig than ''Ex Nihilo'' and ''Three Soldiers'': he became America's most popular living sculptor. He developed a technique for casting sculptures in acrylic resin. The result resembled Lalique glass. Many of his smaller pieces were nudes, using Lindy as a model, so lyrical and sensual that Hart's Classicism began to take on the contours of Art Nouveau. The gross sales of his acrylic castings have gone well over $100 million. None were ever reviewed.

Art worldlings regarded popularity as skill's live-in slut. Popularity meant shallowness. Rejection by the public meant depth. And truly hostile rejection very likely meant greatness. Richard Serra's ''Tilted Arc,'' a leaning wall of rusting steel smack in the middle of Federal Plaza in New York, was so loathed by the building's employees that 1,300 of them, including many federal judges, signed a petition calling for its removal. They were angry and determined, and eventually the wall was removed. Serra thereby achieved an eminence of immaculate purity: his work involved absolutely no skill and was despised by everyone outside the art world who saw it. Today many art worldlings regard him as America's greatest sculptor.

UNESCO LEADERSHIP DENIED TO ANTISEMITE

BBC:
The UN cultural and scientific organisation Unesco has chosen its new leader, former Bulgarian Foreign Minister Irina Bokova.

Ms Bokova beat the favourite, Egyptian Culture Minister Faruq Hosni, whose candidacy had been clouded by allegations of anti-Semitism.

Mr Hosni, who would have been the first Arab head of Unesco, was always a controversial candidate. For many years Egypt's culture minister, he has spoken in the past about the "infiltration of Jews into the international media". Last year he said he would be willing to "burn Israeli books in Egyptian libraries"...

THIS IS GOOD NEWS.

ALTHOUGH, LET'S NOT FORGET: THIS VIRULENT PIECE OF ANTISEMITIC CRAP CAME IN SECOND!

THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE UN.

IOW: THE GOOD NEWS SHE COME IN FIRST. THE BAD NEWS IS HE CAME IN SECOND!

NEW CIVIL RIGHTS GROUP: FORMER MUSLIMS UNITED, CO-FOUNDED BY NONIE DARWISH

Phyllis Chesler reports that Nonie Darwish, herself a former Muslim who converted to Christianity, has formed a new organization called Former Muslims United, a special civil rights outfit for apostates. She's scheduled to speak at Whittier College today about this, and here's a bit from the press release:
“Prominent former Muslims– apostates from Islam– will hold a press conference Thursday, September 24 to announce the launch of a new civil liberties organization, Former Muslims United, and the start of a national campaign to educate the American public and policymakers about the threat from authoritative Shariah– Islamic law– to the religious freedom and safety of former Muslims.

At the press conference, Former Muslims United founders Nonie Darwish and Ibn Warraq (both internationally-respected authors and scholars) will release letters calling on the Department of Justice and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to investigate possible hate crimes and civil rights violations against apostates from Islam, including the circumstances of the current Florida case of 17-year old Rifqa Bary, a former Muslim. The letters are also signed by Former Muslims United co-founders Mohammad Asghar, Wafa Sultan and Amil Imani.”
Predictably, the Muslim Student Association tried to defame her and stop her from speaking, and the college directory didn't do much else to help either.

I applaud Darwish and company for thinking of this, since this is something even Rifqa Bary could get aid from.

IRAN AIDING TALIBAN - and what must be done about it

LATIMES:
Iran has traditionally had an adversarial relationship with the Taliban, and McChrystal's report says that Tehran has played "an ambiguous role in Afghanistan," providing developmental assistance to the government even as it flirts with insurgent groups that target U.S. troops.

"The Iranian Quds Force is reportedly training fighters for certain Taliban groups and providing other forms of military assistance to insurgents," McChrystal said in the report. The Quds Force is an elite wing of the Revolutionary Guard that carries out operations in other countries.

McChrystal did not elaborate on the nature of the assistance, but Iran has been a transit point for foreign fighters entering Pakistan. Experts also cited evidence that Iran has provided training and technology in the use of roadside bombs.

U.S. intelligence officials said Iran appears to calibrate its involvement to tie down U.S. and coalition troops without provoking direct retaliation.

Iran's aim "is to make sure the U.S. is tied down and preoccupied in yet another theater," said Bruce Hoffman, a terrorism expert at Georgetown University. "From Iran's point of view, it's an historical area of interest and too good an opportunity to pass up."
APPEASEMENT OF THE TALIBAN OR PAKISTAN OR IRAN WON'T STOP THIS OR IMPROVE THINGS IN AFGHANISTAN.

WE SHOULD COUNTER-ATTACK KINETICALLY. MASSIVELY:

  1. CUTOFF ALL TRANSPORT BETWEEN AFGHANISTAN AND PAKISTAN, AND ALL THE ROADS BETWEEN THE FATA AND PAKISTAN BY BOMBING THE ROADS INTO SMITHEREENS.
  2. BOMBS ALL OF IRAN'S NUCLEAR, AND MILITARY SITES.

SPAIN REVEALING ITS ANTISEMTISM MORE AND MORE

JPOST:
The Spanish Housing Ministry has disqualified Ariel University Center from the international Solar Decathlon contest, on the grounds that the university is "located in occupied territories."

In a letter sent to the University Center, Javier Ramos Guallart explained that his ministry was forced to make the decision to ban the Israeli academics from the biannual competition to design a self-sufficient solar house, citing "European Union political guidelines" and the institution's location in Samaria.

The delegation from Ariel, which together with 20 other universities had reached the competition's final round, worked for two years designing and building a self-sufficient house that uses solar power as its only source of energy, and uses only half of the amount of energy needed to operate a regular house.

Despite their efforts, the institution received the letter from the Spanish government last Friday, effectively disqualifying their team from the competition.
IN "UNRELATED" NEWS FROM SPAIN:
Anti-Semitism in Spain is on the rise, according to a recent report from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). A statement released by the Jewish watchdog group on Tuesday cited an increase in public expressions of anti-Semitism, and a "greater acceptance of virulent anti-Jewish attitudes."

The report noted "viciously anti-Semitic" cartoons published in major Spanish newspapers such as El Pais and El Mundo, as well as opinion pieces which equate Israel with the Nazi regime. The ADL took care to note that the European Union's racism watchdog defines such statements as anti-Semitic.

Also cited in the report was a 2009 ADL poll, which found that 75 percent of all Spaniards believe Jews possess "too much power" in financial markets, and more than half think Jews have "too much power in business," echoing classic anti-Semitic sentiments.

The report detailed the occurrence of anti-Semitic placards at anti-Israel demonstrations in Spain, as well as the "all too common" incidence of Israeli flag burning.

In terms of anti-Semitic acts, the report noted three incidents so far this year: "The vandalism of a Chabad House in Barcelona on January 11; a violet attack against an employee of a synagogue in Barcelona on January 30; and the harassment of Israel's ambassador to Spain, who was verbally assaulted on the street on May 5 by three men who shouted 'dirty Jew,' 'Jew bastard' and 'Jewish dog.'"

  • SO EVEN IF CO2 CAUSED GLOBAL WARMING - WHICH IT DOESN'T - THE REGIMES WOULDN'T DO A DAMN THING.

  • THE FACT THAT THE LEFTISTS WANT TO PURSUE THEM ANYHOW PROVES THAT IT AIN'T REALLY ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING AT; IT'S REALLY ABOUT THE LEFT ACHIEVING THEIR LONG HELD DREAM OF HOBBLING THE USA AND THE WEST.

OBAMA SPOKE UP IN FAVOR OF THESE REGIMES TODAY AT THE UN.

  • EITHER HE'S A MORON OR A DUPE OR A DEVILISH LEFTIST WHO KNOWS HE'S LYING.

  • TAKE YOUR PICK.

  • AND...

  • DISSENT ACCORDINGLY.

ADDENDUM: WHAT THE THIRD WORLD NEEDS - TO END ITS POVERTY - IS MORE DOMESTIC INDUSTRIALIZATION, NOT A LESS INDUSTRIALIZED FIRST WORLD.

  • INDUSTRIALIZATION LIFTED THE WEST OUT OF POVERTY; IT'S LIFTING CHINA OUT OF POVERTY; IT CAN DO THE SAME THING FOR THE ENTIRE THIRD WORLD.

  • WE CAN MAKE POVERY HISTORY - IF THE LEFT WOULD JUST GET OUT OF THE WAY!

WILSON PROVES IT PAYS TO SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER: RAISES $2MILLION SINCE CALLING OBAMA A LIAR

JOE WILSON HAS NOW RAISED $2 MILLION SINCE CALLING OBABA WHAT HE IS: A LIAR.

I HOPE THIS INSTRUCTS OTHER GOP CANDIDATES HOW BENEIFICAL IT IS TO SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER.

IT BODES WELL FOR 2010.

THANK GOD.

ASIDE: IF MCCAIN HAD CAMPAIGNED THIS WAY - AND SOUNDED MORE LIKE PALIN, WILSON AND JOE THE PLUMBER AND LESS LIKE MR. NICE GUY - THEN HE MIGHT HAVE RAISED MORE MONEY AND GOTTEN MORE VOTES.

A Word of Caution on Glenn Beck (Oh, And Now The Rest Of The Story)

From one of my favorite blogs, The Commentary Magazine Blog:

Unlike others associated with Time magazine, David von Drehle is a skilled, careful, and perceptive writer. So I was interested in his cover story on FOX News’s Glenn Beck, who is considered to be a red-hot commodity these days.

I don’t pretend to be an expert on Beck. In the past I assumed he was a typical figure in the pundit and cable-media world. Only recently have I watched portions of his television program, as well as interviews with him, and heard parts of his radio program. And what I’ve seen should worry the conservative movement.

I say that because he seems to be more of a populist and libertarian than a conservative, more of a Perotista than a Reaganite. His interest in conspiracy theories is disquieting, as is his admiration for Ron Paul and his charges of American “imperialism.” (He is now talking about pulling troops out of Afghanistan, South Korea, Germany, and elsewhere.) Some of Beck’s statements—for example, that President Obama has a “deep-seated hatred for white people”–are quite unfair and not good for the country. His argument that there is very little difference between the two parties is silly, and his contempt for parties in general is anti-Burkean (Burke himself was a great champion of political parties). And then there is his sometimes bizarre behavior, from tearing up to screamingat his callers. Beck seems to be a roiling mix of fear, resentment, and anger—the antithesis of Ronald Reagan.

I understand that a political movement is a mansion with many rooms; the people who occupy them are involved in intellectual and policy work, in politics, and in polemics. Different people take on different roles. And certainly some of the things Beck has done on his program are fine and appropriate. But the role Glenn Beck is playing is harmful in its totality. My hunch is that he is a comet blazing across the media sky right now—and will soon flame out. Whether he does or not, he isn’t the face or disposition that should represent modern-day conservatism. At a time when we should aim for intellectual depth, for tough-minded and reasoned arguments, for good cheer and calm purpose, rather than erratic behavior, he is not the kind of figure conservatives should embrace or cheer on.

From Ace of Spades:

It's On: Mark Levin Goes After Glenn Beck

Calling him a Paulnut.

He's replying to Glenn Beck's odd statement that McCain would have been worse than Obama.

What makes this odd is that what many people find off-putting about Beck is what comes off as a henny-penny apocalyptic tone. Guy's practically selling his courtside seats to Thunderdome.

But McCain would have been worse?

Worse than the apocalypse?

Really?

AND NOW, THE REST OF THE STORY:

I absolutely agree with Glenn Beck. Not because I think McCain actually would have been a worse President, but because I think McCain would have set back the Conservative Movement with his incessant, and quite useless, "reaching across the aisle".

Instead, what we have with Obama is a Progressive movement power grab which is galvanizing the Conservative movement, and shoring up the middle, and causing people to turn towards a national dialogue on the meaning of Constitutional government.

I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime, but it's happening. So, thank God for the Obama Nation.

Also, I want to point out that Peter Wehner, in the Commentary post, notes:

Some of Beck’s statements—for example, that President Obama has a “deep-seated hatred for white people”–are quite unfair and not good for the country.

I say: Oh yeah? Is that right? That's unfair.

So, let me get this straight, our President appointed a Czar of Green Jobs named Van Jones, who was a self-avowed "rowdy Black Nationalist", and our President spent twenty years sitting in a pew listening to Jeremiah Wright, a Minister who has publicly proclaimed his love for James Cone and "Black Liberation Theology", and it is "unfair" to say Obama has a deep-seated hatred of white people.

First, let's ask ourselves, what would we do if we had a President who was appointing "White Nationalists" to Cabinet positions?

White nationalism is a political ideology which advocates a racial definition (or redefinition) of national identity for white people, in opposition to multiculturalism, along with a separate all-white nation-state.

Black nationalism (BN) advocates a racial definition (or redefinition) of black national identity, as opposed to multiculturalism. There are different black nationalist philosophies but the principles of all black nationalist ideologies are 1) Black unity, and 2) black self-determination/political, social and economic independence from White society.

Let me ask, how does a society of black people, within a society of white people, and people of other races, achieve "self-determination/political, social, and economic independence from White society"?

For better or worse, we're all in this together. We have to live with each other. Whether it means giving the other guy the right-of-way on the Freeway, or taking orders from the man above you on the totem poll at work, or waiting in line at McDonald's, we can not have political, social, and economic independence from one another without having separate drinking fountains and bathrooms. In other words, "separate but equal." Remember that hoary old phrase?

In Cone’s cosmology, whites are “the devil,” and “all white men are responsible for white oppression.” Cone makes this point without ambiguity: “This country was founded for whites and everything that has happened in it has emerged from the white perspective,” Cone has written. “What we need is the destruction of whiteness, which is the source of human misery in the world.”

If whiteness stands for all that is evil, blackness symbolizes all that is good. “Black theology,” says Cone, “refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.”

These are our President's Political and Theological roots.

Do I believe Barack Obama hates all white people? No, I do not. However, I do not think it is "unfair" to say that he has a deep-seated hatred for white people. Certainly, if this whole thing was turned around and we had a white President who was appointing White Nationalists to Cabinet positions, we would have no problem with people asserting that he has a deep-seated hatred for black people. And yes, that would be so even if the theoretical white President had black men in his Cabinet at the same time.

How many times have we heard anti-Semites say things like, "You know what I need is to get me a good Jew Lawyer/Accountant." Racism does not necessarily exclude. It simply compartmentalizes people using ugly stereotypes about what people can and can not, should and should not, be able to do within a society.

We, as a Conservative Movement, need to put a stop to allowing Barack Obama's "Blackness" (quotation marks because he is after all half-white, and he was raised by white people) to act as a shield which deflects him from criticism which we would easily level at a White President who behaved in the same manner.

If we do not put an end to these excuses for Barack Obama then certainly we are being racist, because we are declaring to the world that we believe we can expect no better from Black people, than to be racist haters of White people.

And, that is one obnoxious, ugly stereotype I will not participate in perpetrating.

Peter Wehner needs to apologize for that statement, not only to Glenn Beck, but to white people, to black people, and to society in general.

‘I Was Actually Black Before the Election’ and Other Twisted Versions of the Truth from Barack Obama

During an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman Monday, President Barack Obama responded to the liberal talk show host's question about racism by saying, "I think it's important to realize I was actually black before the election." Selectively ignoring the fact that his mother was white, the remark a Reuters headline described as "deadpan" generated raucous laughter from the obviously-biased crowd inside The Ed Sullivan Theater. And the "spin" continued.

President Obama compared himself to FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan, drawing weak connections to each via the same talking points he had used the previous day (see this post for details) during appearances on five Sunday television talk shows. Because the president ignored his network, Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck decided to air a pseudo-interview with him by asking him questions and then using answers he's already given.

In the four videos below, Beck exposes so many lies that you'll find yourself challenged to count them all. Watch...

Plan for solar power plant in Mojave desert scrapped due to GREENIE opposition

There's no such thing as a happy Greenie

Oakland's BrightSource Energy Inc. said this week that it has scrapped a controversial plan to build a major solar thermal power plant in eastern Mojave Desert wilderness that Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein wants to transform into a national monument.

The announcement ended a long-running dispute between backers of renewable energy and environmentalists strongly opposed to the idea of creating an industrial zone within 600,000 acres of former railroad lands that had been donated to the Department of Interior for conservation.

The acrimony even triggered a nasty public squabble between Robert Kennedy Jr., a senior adviser at VantagePoint Venture Partners, which raised $160 million for BrightSource, and David Myers, executive director of the Wildlands Conservancy, which raised $40 million to buy the railroad lands and protect them from development.

Of particular concern was BrightSource's application to develop a solar power plant on a portion of the donated lands known as Broadwell Dry Lake, which lies within Sleeping Beauty Valley. The scenic, near pristine region is home to Big Horn Mountain Sheep and a variety of plants and reptiles found nowhere else.

"We have ceased all activity at the Broadwell site," BrightSource spokesman Keely Wachs said Thursday. "We will not build inside of a national monument." "Our core mission is to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions," he added. "We share Sen. Feinstein's values on this matter."

News of the company's announcement came as a welcomed surprise to environmentalists. "BrightSource should be saluted for their corporate responsibility," Myers said. "A major conflict between renewable energy and environmentalists has just evaporated." Elden Hughes, former chairman of the Sierra Club's California-Nevada Desert Committee, called the company's announcement "fantastic news." "Broadwell is one of the most beautiful vistas in the desert," he said. "I've seen it covered with yellow flowers to the horizon in all directions."

The BrightSource application was one of 19 under review by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Wachs said the company had ceased activity at the Broadwell site a few months ago. Around the same time, the company began seeking alternative sites for that project "in and outside of the state," he said.

CYCLES OF WARMING AND COOLING UNCONNECTED WITH CO2 IN RECENT HISTORY

An email from Norm Kalmanovitch [kalhnd@shaw.ca]. Norm is a practicing geophysicist with over 35 years of experience

Regardless of whether or not changes in atmospheric CO2 have any measurable on global climate the true deceit of the IPCC is clearly shown by the statement that CO2 emissions from fossil fuels are the source of observed 20th century global warming. Twentieth century global warming did not start until 1910. By that time CO2 emissions had already risen from the expanded use of coal that had powered the industrial revolution, and emissions only increased slowly from 3.5gigatonnes in 1910 to under 4gigatonnes by the end of the Second World War.

It was the post war industrialization that caused the rapid rise in global CO2 emissions, but by 1945 when this began, the Earth was already in a cooling phase that started around 1942 and continued until 1975. With 32 years of rapidly increasing global temperatures and only a minor increase in global CO2 emissions, followed by 33years of slowly cooling global temperatures with rapid increases in global CO2 emissions, it was deceitful for the IPCC to make any claim that CO2 emissions were primarily responsible for observed 20th century global warming.

Today, two decades later, they are still making this claim with incontrovertible evidence that the Earth has been cooling since 2002 in spite of the continued rapid increase in global CO2 emissions, clearly demonstrated in the IPCC's own reports. There is absolutely no rational basis for the claim that CO2 emissions from fossil fuels are causing or have caused causing global warming, and anyone making this claim under the guise of "consensus science" is guilty of committing scientific fraud.

This fraud is not trivial. It has been perpetuated for so long that it is now accepted as fact and forms the basis for government programs worldwide, and these programs have had nothing but detrimental effects on the world population and world economy.

Polar bears, arctic ice thickness, Katrina, wildfires in California, droughts in Africa, and changes to the pH level of the oceans have absolutely nothing to do with the environmentally beneficial CO2 emissions from fossil fuels, but because of this fraud, costly emissions reduction programs are being put in place to address these issues. Before any more suffering is inflicted on the world, we have to put an end to this fraud and hold the perpetrators accountable.

ANOTHER REPRIEVE FOR RIFQA BARY

I've checked the news on the current hearing today of Rifqa Bary at Atlas Shrugs. And if I've got the following news correct:
4:15 Judge says rifqa stays with foster family while he communicates with ohio judge to determine jurisdiction and what kind of case this is dependency or criminal or truancy.
So there's another fortunate reprieve for her, but as one commentor says, we can't be overconfident.

Update: and all is not well. According to the following, the Lorenz children have been banned from visiting Rifqa, thanks to this disgusting lawyer Shayan Elahi, whom the parents hired. This is also because the "parents" are even filing a complaint against the Lorenz family. More about this at the Examiner.

On a related note, Hugh Fitzgerald writes about the St. Petersburg propagandist Michael Kruse, who, it turns out, is really a sports writer, and clearly not fit for his job. Plus, as told here:
And what about a systematic boycott of those papers -- the St. Petersburg Times, the Orlando Sentinel -- by their advertisers, who should be apprised of what these papers are doing, or not doing? Or, if the advertisers won't raise this issue, then why should not individuals, or groups, let those advertisers know that as long as they continue to advertise in the St. Petersburg Times, and the Orlando Sentinel, others will choose not to give them their custom?
I do agree that's time to boycott the newspaper for which people like him are working, and perhaps to avoid all businesses advertising in them as well.

Update 2: Yid With Lid raises some good questions: if the lawyer is a member of unindicted co-conspirator in terrorism CAIR, should Elahi be allowed to act as the "parents" lawyer? I do think an appeal should be made to challenge Elahi on whether he should be representing them. Here's also an article from Investor's Business Daily.

RASSMUSSEN MONDAY TRACKING POLL: NO BOUNCE FOR OMNIPRESENT OBAMA

THE OMNIPRESENT OBAMA WENT ON EVERY SINGLE TV SHOW NO9T ON FOX ON SUNDAY AND WHAT DID HE GET FOR IT?

NOTHING.

RASSMUSSEN:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 30% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -8 (see trends).

NO BOUNCE.

SOME PEOPLE ARGUE THAT OBAMA HAS BEEN OVER-EXPOSED.

I HAVE ARGUED THAT THE INCREASED EXPOSURE HAS ACTUALLY SHOWN PEOPLE HE WAS VERY OVER-RATED.

OBAMA WAS THE LEAST QUALIFIED PERSON EVER TO WIN THE OFFICE,
  • AND IN LESS THAT A YEAR HAS PROVEN TO BE THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER:
  • ABANDONING OUR DEMOCRATIC ALLIES O IN HONDURAS AND POLAND
  • (AND SOON AFGHANISTAN),
  • OUR MILITARY DEFENSES,
  • AND BY TRYING TO TURN US INTO A SOCIALIST COUNTRY.

UNTIL WE NEUTER OBAMA BY RETAKING CONGRESS IN 2010, THE US ECONOMY AND THE ENTIRE WEST IS UNDER A GRAVE THREAT.

ALL THE PRESIDENT'S WEAPONS - ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL CLAIMS OBAMA SAYS US ARSENAL ARE "THE PRESIDENT'S WEAPONS

Uh, Mr. President? What about the Pentagon, the Joint Chiefs, the Legislative and Judicial Branch of the Government?

They're not your friggin' weapons, Junior!

Better gun up, Americans. Our president has no interest in our National Security. Only in HIS nukes.

Barack Obama ready to slash US nuclear arsenal

Pentagon told to map out radical cuts as president prepares to chair UN talks

Barack Obama has demanded the Pentagon conduct a radical review of US nuclear weapons doctrine to prepare the way for deep cuts in the country's arsenal, the Guardian can reveal.

Obama has rejected the Pentagon's first draft of the "nuclear posture review" as being too timid, and has called for a range of more far-reaching options consistent with his goal of eventually abolishing nuclear weapons altogether, according to European officials.

Those options include:

• Reconfiguring the US nuclear force to allow for an arsenal measured in hundreds rather than thousands of deployed strategic warheads.

• Redrafting nuclear doctrine to narrow the range of conditions under which the US would use nuclear weapons.

• Exploring ways of guaranteeing the future reliability of nuclear weapons without testing or producing a new generation of warheads.

The review is due to be completed by the end of this year, and European officials say the outcome is not yet clear. But one official said: "Obama is now driving this process. He is saying these are the president's weapons (WTF???), and he wants to look again at the doctrine and their role."

The move comes as Obama prepares to take the rare step of chairing a watershed session of the UN security council on Thursday. It is aimed at winning consensus on a new grand bargain: exchanging more radical disarmament by nuclear powers in return for wider global efforts to prevent further proliferation.

That bargain is at the heart of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, which is up for review next year amid signs it is unravelling in the face of Iranian and North Korean nuclear ambitions.

In an article for the Guardian today, the foreign secretary, David Miliband, argues that failure to win a consensus would be disastrous. "This is one of the most critical issues we face," the foreign secretary writes. "Get it right, and we will increase global security, pave the way for a world without nuclear weapons, and improve access to affordable, safe and dependable energy – vital to tackle climate change. Get it wrong, and we face the spread of nuclear weapons and the chilling prospect of nuclear material falling into the hands of terrorists."

According to a final draft of the resolution due to be passed on Thursday, however, the UN security council will not wholeheartedly embrace the US and Britain's call for eventual abolition of nuclear weapons. Largely on French insistence, the council will endorse the vaguer aim of seeking "to create the conditions for a world without nuclear weapons".

... The US nuclear posture review is aimed at clearing the path for a new round of deep US-Russian cuts to follow almost immediately after that treaty is ratified, to set lower limits not just on deployed missiles but also on the thousands of warheads both have in their stockpiles.

The Obama strategy is to create disarmament momentum in the run-up to the non-proliferation treaty review conference next May, in the hope that states without nuclear weapons will not side with Iran, as they did at the last review in 2005, but endorse stronger legal barriers to nuclear proliferation, and forego nuclear weapons programmes themselves.

"The review has up to now been in the hands of mid-level bureaucrats with a lot of knowledge, but it's knowledge drawn from the cold war. What they are prepared to do is tweak the existing doctrine," said Rebecca Johnson, the head of the Acronym Institute, a pro-disarmament pressure group. "Obama has sent them it back saying: 'Give me more options for what we can do in line with my goals. I'm not saying it's easy, but all you're giving me is business as usual.'"
