WAS IT AYERS WHO "SENT" OBAMA?

Michael Barone lays out the Obama-Ayers issue with admirable clarity: Obama Needs to Explain His Ties to William Ayers:

And the question presents itself: How did this outsider from Hawaii and Columbia and Harvard become somebody somebody sent? His wife, Michelle Robinson Obama, had some connections: Her father was a Democratic precinct committeeman; she baby-sat for Jesse Jackson's children; and she worked as a staffer for the current Mayor Daley. Obama made connections on the all-black South Side by joining the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church. But was Obama's critical connection to le tout Chicago William Ayers? That's the conclusion you are led to by Steve Diamond's blog. And by the fact that the National Review's Stanley Kurtz was suddenly denied access to the records of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge by the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois-Chicago Circle. (Kurtz had already been given an index to the records.) Presumably the CAC records would show a closer collaboration between Ayers and Obama than was suggested by Obama's response at the debate that Ayers was just a guy "in the neighborhood."

As Punditarian blogged yesterday:

Prediction: the evidence will show that the electoral career of Barack Obama was launched by Bill Ayers like a missile at the heart of America because he was convinced that Obama shared his Marxist-Leninist outlook. Perhaps Obama was fooling him, as he has fooled so many others. But perhaps that is the real skeleton in the closet where hangs the empty suit.

Michael Barone sums it up:

Does it matter if William Ayers was the key somebody who made Barack Obama a somebody somebody sent? I think it does. Not that Obama shares all of Ayers's views, which surely he does not. Or that he endorses Ayers's criminal acts, which, as he has pointed out, were committed while he was a child in Hawaii and Indonesia. But his willingness to associate with an unrepentant terrorist is not the same as Daley's:

"Bill Ayers, I've said this, his father was a great friend of my father. I'll be very frank. Vietnam divided families, divided people. It was a terrible time of our country. It really separated people. People didn't know one another. Since then, I'll be very frank, (Ayers) has been in the forefront on a lot of education issues and helping us in public schools and things like that.

"People keep trying to align himself with Barack Obama. It's really unfortunate. They're friends. So what? People do make mistakes in the past. You move on. This is a new century, a new time. He reflects back and he's been making a strong contribution to our community."

For Daley, family is paramount, and Ayers is admitted into le tout Chicago because his father is one of its pillars. And electoral politics is also paramount: In a city that is roughly 40 percent (and falling) white ethnic and 40 percent black, with an increasing gentrified white population, the current Mayor Daley has maintained very strong support from lakefront liberals, including the Hyde Park/Kenwood leftists like Ayers who were the original movers behind Obama's 1996 state Senate candidacy. It's in Daley's interest to work with these people and against his interest to do anything that seems like disrespecting them. As Bill Daley told me when I asked him some years ago whether his father would have approved of Richie marching in the gay rights parade, "Our father always told us when a group was big enough to control a ward; we should pay attention to them." Staying mayor is real important to Daley, and Daley staying mayor is real important to le tout Chicago. An unrepentant terrorist? Hey, we know your dad. And you control the 5th Ward.

For Obama, the outsider who gained the trust of the insiders, the position is different. He was willing to use Ayers and ally with him despite his terrorist past and lack of repentance. An unrepentant terrorist, who bragged of bombing the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon, was a fit associate. Ayers evidently helped Obama gain insider status in Chicago civic life and politics--how much, we can't be sure. But most American politicians would not have chosen to associate with a man with Ayers's past or of Ayers's beliefs. It's something voters might reasonably want to take into account. [Emphasis added.]

I think that you should take it into account.

And vote accordingly.

This leftie is more frightened and angry at Bush - for his imaginary assault on our liberties - then they are of Putin.

AND::: They admire Gorbachev despite the fact that he never ever did one single solitary thing which expanded human rights in Russia. Gorbachev's perestroika and glasnost were attempts TO SAVE COMMUNISM. They were not attempts at creating a capitalist/freemarket democracy.

Gorbachev's policies - like Putin's - were all about tyranny and domination of the state, and not liberty.

Bush is all about liberty.

The fact that the left denies this prevents them from being able to provide REAL leadership and solve the real problems in the world. That's because to improve the problems you have to first correctly see them for what they really are.

Only then can you come up with the practical solutions which will bring us closer to achieving our common goals.

This willful blindness is what makes the left useless - at best, and a negative drag since they are constantly reunning interference foe the enemy and protecting archaic and vestigial institutions - like SOCIAL SECURITY AND THE BAN ON DRILLING INTHE OCS AND ANWR.

This is why - in order to defeat the global jihadist threat and solve our energy needs and elimiante poverty - we need to first defeat leftism.

Government stats released today say that during the 2nd Quarter we grew at 3.3% rate.

This is GREAT news: it means there is no recession, and that things are things improving.

Consumer confidence is improving too.

IF THE ECONOMY IS STRENGTHENING, THEN DEMAND FOR OIL WOULD BE LIKELY TO INCREASE AND THIS SHOULD INCREASE PRICES - NOT DECREASE THEM.

For those Democrats who are too young to have a proper appreciation of their party's history, which likely includes most of Senator Obama's supporters, we direct your attention to a memorable moment in DNC history that shows how the current nominee really is connected to the party's past as much as its future.

It was forty years ago today that Barack Obama friend and political ally, and unrepentant terrorists, William Ayers was arrested while protesting the DNC proceedings.

William Ayers set no bombs that day, but he was only working his way up from petty criminal to domestic terrorist.

And of course this was long before Barack Obama and he struck up the friendship that would lead Ayers to launch Obama's political career at his house.

Still, the McCain campaign would take this opportunity to remind voters that those responsible for the violence in 1968 have since been incorporated into the party they once protested, and have been revered even by the likes of Barack Obama, and this despite the failure, in the case of Ayers, to ever apologize for the violence he committed against the American people.

RUSSIA'S NEW SHARI'A-BASED CREDIT CARD SYSTEM

As Russia returns the world to Cold War status, they also seem to be taking steps to provide shari'a benefits for their Islamic population, which, if we think of Russia as a European country, is the largest in the continent (may number at about 25 million). Now, they've issued shari'a compliant credit cards for their own Muslim population (via Dhimmi Watch):

For the first time ever in the banker history in Russia special plastic cards for Muslims are now available for the followers of Islam. The cards are produced by one of the largest banks of the Republic of Dagestan of the RF.

The special feature of the cards is zero annual percent. It is known that Islam prohibits usury and the Muslim religion is against its followers getting profit from keeping money somewhere.

According to the pushful bank representatives, the cards are already gaining popularity with the Muslim republic citizens who previously to becoming a bank’s client had to write a paper confirming that they refused getting deposit percentage.

I've got a feeling that, as Russia continues to veer back to Cold War status, that Muslims there will continue to influence the country, and just like in Britain, money bonds for shari'a could be issued there.

How the Georgian Conflict Really Started

'Anybody who thinks that Moscow didn't plan this invasion, that we in Georgia caused it gratuitously, is severely mistaken," President Mikheil Saakashvili told me during a late night chat in Georgia's presidential palace this weekend. "Our decision to engage was made in the last second as the Russian tanks were rolling -- we had no choice," Mr. Saakashvili explained. "We took the initiative just to buy some time. We knew we were not going to win against the Russian army, but we had to do something to defend ourselves." ....

"I got a call from the minister of defense that Russian tanks, some 200, were massing to enter Tskhinvali from North Ossetia," Mr. Saakashvili told me. "I ignored it at first, but reports kept coming in that they had begun to move forward. In fact, they had mobilized reserves several days ahead of time."

This was precisely the kind of information that the Russians have suppressed and the world press continues to ignore, despite decades of familiarity with Kremlin disinformation methods. "We subsequently found out from pilots we shot down," said Mr. Saakashvili, "that they'd been called up three days before from places like Moscow. We had intelligence coming in ahead of time but we just couldn't believe it. Also, in recent weeks, the separatists had intensified artillery barrages and were shooting our soldiers. I'd kept telling our guys to stay calm. Actually we had most of our troops down near Abkhazia where we expected the real trouble to start. I can tell you that if we'd intended to attack, we'd have withdrawn our best-trained forces from Iraq up front."

According to the Georgian president, the Russians had been planning an invasion of his country for weeks -- even months -- ahead of time: "Some months ago, I was warned by Western leaders in Dubrovnik to expect an attack this summer," he explained. "Mr. Putin had already threatened me in February, saying we would become a protectorate of Russia. When I met Mr. Medvedev in June, he was very friendly. I saw him again in July and he was a changed man, spooked, evasive. He tried to avoid me. He knew something by then....

I put it to Mr. Saakashvili that there was also the question of why now? Why did the Russians not act before or later? It was a matter, he said, of several factors coming together: the useful distractions of the Beijing Olympics and the U.S. elections, the fact that it took Mr. Putin this long to consolidate power, the danger that tanks would bog down in the winter. But two factors above all sealed Georgia's fate this summer, it seems. In April, NATO postponed the decision to admit Georgia into the organization until its next summit in October. Mr. Saakashvili believes Moscow felt it had one last chance to pre-empt Georgia's joining NATO.

Democrats and Republicans have scripted their conventions as tightly as possible. But after delegates return home with buttons, badges and banners, the curtain will rise on a more unruly drama: the fall session of Congress. And it could affect the November election more than the conventions. The House and Senate return to Washington Monday, Sept. 8. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hope it will be a short session, ending on Sept. 26. That will allow members to go home and campaign, not to return until after Election Day. Good luck.

Congress hasn't yet passed any one of the 12 appropriations bills needed to fund the government when the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1. And Congress isn't likely to pass them through both houses and get them to the president before leaving town. The goal here for Mr. Reid and Mrs. Pelosi is to delay passing a budget until the next president is inaugurated. If the Democrats get their wish and sweep the November elections, Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony will mark the opening of the spending floodgates.

Before they get there, however, this Congress must first pass stopgap legislation that will pay the federal government's bills for the next few months. Usually, that is done with a "continuing resolution," a bill that simply funds the government at its current level for a short period of time. But a continuing resolution is fraught with political problems for Democrats. Members, desperate for their election-year pork-barrel spending, could band together and threaten to withhold support if their earmarks are not inserted into spending bills. If that happens, say goodbye to Democratic claims of fiscal responsibility.

Another problem is oil. There is a congressional ban on drilling on the outer continental shelf that will expire on Oct. 1, if it isn't first reauthorized. Typically, the ban is reauthorized as part of the Interior Department appropriations bill. But this year the president says he will veto that bill if the House and Senate don't allow an up-or-down vote on drilling there. That sets up a political showdown. Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Reid could try stuffing the ban into the continuing resolution. But that runs the risk of a government shutdown over spending and increasing domestic energy supplies -- a fight that is sure to focus public attention just weeks before the election.

Adding fuel to this fire is Sen. Charles Schumer, the Democrat in charge of increasing his party's majority in the Senate. He said recently that "the drilling issue has peaked," and is therefore less inclined to support a compromise to open the outer continental shelf. Normally politically acute, Mr. Schumer is either bluffing or out of touch with public opinion, which seems to favor Republicans on the issue nearly everywhere. Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Reid could offer a drilling expansion bill that doesn't do much to open new territory, but which would include billions in new spending and would impose a "windfall profits" tax. But voters would sniff out such a phony ploy to do something about $4 gas....

The end result of all of these messy fights is that a Congress -- which hit a record low 14% approval rating in a July Gallup Poll before its members left on summer vacation -- may become even more unpopular.

Inevitably, John McCain and Barack Obama will be drawn into these fights. And, although both are sitting senators, the advantage may go to Mr. McCain. Democrats control Congress, so they are accountable. Mr. Reid and Mrs. Pelosi are two of the worst advertisements for Congress imaginable. And Mr. McCain has an impressive record of political reform he can invoke, whereas Mr. Obama, who has yet to complete his first term in the Senate, has no accomplishments to point to that demonstrate that he is an agent of change. The 110th Congress is an excellent target for Mr. McCain. He ought to take careful aim at it and commence firing.

NO JUDGMENT AND NO COURAGE: OBAMA'N BIDEN MORE AFRAID OF CORN SYRUP AND COAL THAN TERROR

The connections between Barack [middle name redacted] Obama and "unrepentant LYING terrorist" Bill Ayers loom like a foreboding monolith in Candidate Soetoro's path to the White House.

Barry has thus far treated Bill Ayers differently than he has treated Jeremiah Wright, Jim Johnson, and his own grandmother: he has continued to defend his association with a man who planned to detonate an anti-personnel nail-bomb at a social gathering of American soldiers at Fort Dix.

Rather than his usual tactic of throwing his embarrassing associates Under the Bus, Barack has attempted to downplay his association with Ayers. He thinks he can defend himself by asserting that he was only eight years old when Bill Ayers was leading the Weather Underground. And he claims that the ties that bind him to Ayers are "tenuous."

But Obama was 35 years old when he launched his first political campaign (for Alice Palmer's State Senate seat) with a dinner party at Bill Ayers's (and Bernardine Dohrn's) home -- the home of a man who rhapsodized:

"There's something about a good bomb … Night after night, day after day, each majestic scene I witnessed was so terrible and so unexpected that no city would ever again stand innocently fixed in my mind. Big buildings and wide streets, cement and steel were no longer permanent. They, too, were fragile and destructible. A torch, a bomb, a strong enough wind, and they, too, would come undone or get knocked down."

And Barack's association with Bill Ayers didn't begin in 1996. They were already well acquainted from working together at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, funneling grants to Marxist-Leninists and other former terrorists.

In fact, knowing that Bill Ayers's father, Thomas G. Ayers, is an important Chicago philanthropist with ties to the Daley political machine, and that Michelle Obama (then Robinson) (daughter of a Daley machine precinct captain) worked for a small law firm that also employed Bernardine Dohrn, it may be that Bill Ayers is one of the most significant background figures in Obama's life. More important, perhaps than even Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, or the pedophile, pornographer and communist Frank Marshall Davis.

The fact that Obama's connection is far from tenuous may be the reason that the Obama campaign has attempted to use the courts to prevent broadcasts of a television spot that highlights this dubious relationship.

However, now that independent investigators have been granted access to the Annenberg Challenge Archives at the University of Illinois (Chicago), the truth will out.

And then the pathetic evasions and cover-up will be seen for what they are.

Of course, since as a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary, Bill Ayers has more self-discipline than the self-aggrandizing windbag Wright, he has kept out of sight, and the cover-up has been possible. But only up until this point.

And if you want to know what Bill Ayers is really like, if you want to know what sort of man Obama takes as an ally and friend, read this.

And vote accordingly.

UPDATE - Thursday Morning

Stanley Kurtz began to lay out the story of the Obama-Ayers relationship last night on WGN Radio in Chicago. The Obama campaign reacted with a flurry of abuse, and appealed to the legions of Obamanauts to call the show and expostulate. The host was genuinely surprised that they would react to Stanley Kurtz and his painstaking fact-finding in that way.

As Jonah Goldberg put it on the Corner, "As they say in the Air Force, if you're catching flak, you must be over the target."

Prediction: the evidence will show that the electoral career of Barack Obama was launched by Bill Ayers like a missile at the heart of America because he was convinced that Obama shared his Marxist-Leninist outlook. Perhaps Obama was fooling him, as he has fooled so many others. But perhaps that is the real skeleton in the closet where hangs the empty suit.

Joe Biden: Wrong on Iran, Inconsistent on Israel

Washington, D.C. (August 27, 2008) -- With the selection of Sen. Joe Biden as Sen. Obama's vice president, the Democrat's ticket has now become an even greater gamble for the Jewish community. Throughout his career, Sen. Biden has consistently been wrong on Iran and his voting record on Israel has been inconsistent. Like Obama, Biden fundamentally misunderstands the threat posed by an Iran determined to obtain nuclear weapons. Biden has continuously demonstrated poor judgment on Iran. He has voted against significant legislation that would pressure Iran to stop pursuing nuclear weapons. Biden has failed to recognize the serious threat that Iran poses to Israel and the U.S. and its allies in the Middle East.

Biden Votes Wrong on Iran:

• November 2007, Kyl-Lieberman Resolution, 76-22: Like Obama, Biden was one of the few senators to oppose the bipartisan 2007 Kyl-Lieberman Amendment labeling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization. Democratic senators supporting the bipartisan resolution: Sen. Clinton (D-NY), Sen. Reid (D-NV), Sen. Durbin (D-IL), and Sen. Levin (D-MI).
• June 2004, Letter Urging the President to Highlight Iran's Nuclear Program at the G-8 Summit, 66 Signers: Biden did not sign this important letter which had 66 co-signers.
• May 1998, Iran Missile Proliferation Sanctions Act, 90-4: In 1998, Biden was one of only four senators to vote against the Iran Missile Proliferation Sanctions Act, a bill that punished foreign companies or other entities that sent Iran sensitive missile technology or expertise.

The letter had 73 co-signers.

• March 2004, Schumer-Hatch-Clinton-Smith Letter Urging Kofi Annan to Reverse Support for ICJ Hearings on the Security Fence; 79 Signers: Biden did not sign this letter urging Kofi Annan to reverse support for the International Court of Justice Hearings on the Security Fence. The letter had 79 signers.

"In a conversation with Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, after a sharp confrontation in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the subject of the settlements, Begin defined himself as 'a proud Jew who does not tremble with fear' when speaking with foreign statesmen.

During that committee hearing, at the height of the Lebanon War, Sen. John Biden (Delaware) had attacked Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria and threatened that if Israel did not immediately cease this activity, the US would have to cut economic aid to Israel.

When the senator raised his voice and banged twice on the table with his fist, Begin commented to him: 'This desk is designed for writing, not for fists. Don't threaten us with slashing aid. Do you think that because the US lends us money it is entitled to impose on us what we must do? We are grateful for the assistance we have received, but we are not to be threatened. I am a proud Jew. Three thousand years of culture are behind me, and you will not frighten me with threats. Take note: we do not want a single soldier of yours to die for us.'

After the meeting, Sen. Moynihan approached Begin and praised him for his cutting reply. To which Begin answered with thanks, defining his stand against threats.

McCain's bosom buddy in the US Senate is the Jew Joe Lieberman - even though he's a lib and a sem - and Ivy League too boot.

And then there's the fact that McCain has a long record of supporting Israel in the Senate.

• IN FACT, MOST OF OBAMA'S BUDDIES ARE LEFTIES WHO THINK THE USA IS TO PRO-ISRAEL.

• AND OBAMA HAS NOT ONE SINGLE SOLITARY ALLY WHO IS A CONSERVATIVE - WHICH SHOWS YOU HE DOESN'T REALLY HAVE THE TEMPERAMENT TO REACH ACROSS THE PARTISAN DIVIDE.

• BUT MCCAIN DOES.

In an emotional meeting leading up to the Democratic roll call of the states, Hillary Clinton released her convention delegates Wednesday to vote for certain presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Many in the crowded ballroom yelled back, “No!”

“I am not telling you what to do,” Ms. Clinton responded. “You've come here from so many different places having made this journey and feeling in your heart what is right for you to do.”

I HOPE MOST VOTE FOR HER ON THE FORST BALLOT ANYWAY.

• THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HILLARY BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN.

Optimism About The Situation in Iraq is At an All-Time High Which Means Optimism About The Possiblity Of An Obama Presidency Is At An All-Time Low

When things are good, Iraq, the economy, etc., it is always a bad thing for Obama. He has bet his entire hand on the failure of America. Do we want a President like that?

No. And, that's why he won't win.

Voter confidence in the War on Terror is at the highest level ever recorded
since Rasmussen Reports began regular tracking in January 2004. Fifty-four
percent (54%) of American voters now think the United States and its allies are
winning the war. The previous high-water mark for optimism--52%--was reached a
handful of times in September and October 2004.

Optimism about the
situation in Iraq is also at an all-time high. Forty-eight percent (48%) now
expect the situation in that troubled country to get better over the next six
months. Only 17% expect things to get worse. In addition to being the most
optimistic assessment ever recorded, these numbers reflect a remarkable
turnaround over the past year. Last August, just 27% thought things were going
to get better while 47% were pessimistic.
