Palin has accused those critical of Newt as trying to "crucify" him.
I think this choice of words reveal that this is a sly and bigoted attempt by the evangelical Palin to deter her fanatical fans from voting for the Mormon in the race.
Palin has criticized "the establishment" - (whoever that is?!) - for slinging mud at Gingrich - as if telling the truth about this erratic, mercurial, unprincipled serial adulterer who was hated in his own caucus was slinging mud.
WHEN GINGRICH ENDORSED DEDE SCOZZAFAVA, WAS NEWT BEING ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT? Hardly.
WHEN HE LOBBIED FOR FREDDIE MAC, WAS HE BEING ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT? Not at all.
Molinari and Bachmann and Santorum have all HARSHLY criticized Newt and refused to endorse him, and none are "establishment" - neither is Bolton or Issa or Coulter. Palin's charge is ludicrous.
Palin used to stand against lobbyists and career politicians who did their bidding and then became lobbyists. Now she's defending one. She's defending one who's running against a man who spent most of his life in the private sector - except when he was Governor and running a non-profit... the Winter Olympics of Utah.
THAT'S COMPLETELY UNPRINCIPLED OF PALIN:
SHE'S TURNING HER BACK ON EVERYTHING SHE HAS STOOD FOR. TO DEFEND NEWT: A SERIAL ADULTERER WHO MADE A TV COMMERCIAL WITH PELOSI ONLY A FEW YEARS AGO!
Palin ran with and endorsed Senator McCain - who is well to the left of Mitt.
But now she slyly attacks Mitt and virtually endorses NEWT. I could understand her better if she was endorsing Santorum, who at least is clean and principled. BUT NEWT?!?!?!?!?!?!
The only explanation can thin of is that Palin is bigoted against Mormons.
Palin is off my list, now.
I would NOT support her if she was running for dog-catcher - or mayor of Wasilla.
(I might support her though for one job: Mayor of Newt's Moon colony!)

People who criticise Romney seem to be motivated by a deep seated mistrust - but they rarely provide substantive arguments that criticise his record of service. From my perspective the most fervent critics of Mitt Romney seem to be Christians who don't like Mormons. And unless they can provide more substantive arguments against Romney's qualifications or positions then they are nothing less than Bigots.

"Romneycare, at its core, is exactly like Obamacare…At the core, they are the same; mandates, subsidies, and Medicaid. That core is what Romney recently dubbed as fundamentally a conservative principle."
"Many on the right, who, for some odd reason, believe Mitt Romney is the only Republican candidate who can beat Barack Obama, are deluding themselves. Those who believe the Romneycare issue is “old” are also deluding themselves. Playing “gotcha” with Newt Gingrich hardly demonstrates core strength when the nation is hanging in the balance."

A month or so ago, I posed a question about Palin, wanting to know if anyone else had seen a Fox News appearance in which she appeared to be really angry. She had a really hard set to her mouth and she was clipping her words the way someone holding back from exploding in anger might do. I had never seen her like that. No smiles, just this forced grimace.
It was a few days later when I saw her again and again I noticed that the "say it with a smile" Palin seemed to have disappeared and in its place was a very angry woman.
About a week later, she was starting to make her non-endorsement endorsements of Newt. Something about her whole demeanor had changed and I wondered if Todd was pressuring her after he endorsed Newt to the point that they were fighting.
However, when I heard her the other night, I could not believe the woman speaking was the same one I was so taken with from the first moment she hit the national stage.
Is it possible that some kind of animosity developed between her and the Romney camp during the last campaign? I don't recall their interaction, if any.
I have a hard time with the bigoted charge against her, not so hard to think that about Todd. Sarah went to school in Idaho and Idaho is like a suburb of Utah and has a huge Mormon population. Surely she has known many and it is hard to find anyone who has spent anytime around the Mormon community and have much bad to say.
I agree, however, that her complete reversal of everything I thought she stood for is disconcerting at the very least. I'm bordering on being just as angry at her as she seems to be. Mostly though, I'm disappointed in her.
esquecida, thanks for your comment.
now for some truth:
romneycare was a 70 page bill overwhelmingly passed by the state house.
it did not takeover healthcare insurance industry or the healthcare industry.
it mandated that either folks who can afford to buy insurance either buy it from a private insurer or pay for their own healthcare - so other taxpayers don;t have to pat for their care.
do yoiu favor people who cab afford to pay for their healthcare but who don't being able to freeload?
i don't.
all hospitals in the entire USA that receive one cent of medicare or medicaid money must by law treat all people who come in for care without regard ton their ability to pay.
under romneycare, people who can afford insurance must have either a policy pr pay 250 to get care,
that's fair.
and it's within the power and right of a state government to require this.
the FEDERAL government has no such power or right.
and as romney has said since 2006, the federal government should leave it to the states and even block grant to the states medicare and medicaid money.
which ryan supports, too.
mitt supports the ryan plan and newt trashed it on meet the press.
if you are really a conservative then you shouldn't buy into the LEFTWING populist crap newt and palin are trying to sell you.
all the best!
sara,
thanks for your comment.
palin is not conservative only; she also has a very deep LEFTWING POPULIST strain in her thinking.
and a huge ego that blames boogiemen like THE ESTABLISHMENT.
in her ungratefulness to those who helped her, palin sounds like michelle obama to me:
like michelle, palin has HUGELY benefited from the "establishment".
the establishment gave michelle scholarships and plum jobs.
the establishment was who put palin on the national ticket last time.
palin's ego thinks she did it all herself.
her foolishness on the newt/mitt fight will bring her down to earth: with these idiotic attacks on mit and moronic amoral defenses of newt, she's making herself inconsequential.
John Zeigler, who has been one of Palin's biggest supporters is also confused about her current behavior and her "endorsement" of a serial adulterer and philanderer and a man who really treats the women in his life with no respect.
He hits some of my problems. For instance, why would she endorse Newt over Santorum, if she dislikes Mitt so much? He is the Papist Evangelist, he is the one with the special needs child, he is the one who seems the most like I thought Palin was until this week.

i have respect for conservatives who back santorum.
not much if any for those who now back newt - especially the ones who were pro-cain and then became newtnutz.
had palin endorsed santorum i would have understood, but disagreed.
i agree with kudlow: newt's attacks on capitalism are unforgivable.
his personal life is one that i find repulsive - but some might forgive him for.
i don't because i feel that newt has proven over and over again that he is inconstant in all matters of principle.
the only constant in his life is newt,
i'm beginning to feel palin is equally self-centered.
mitt has given more to charity and nonprofits than palin and newt have earned.
plus he has tithed to his church,
they cannot claim anywhere near his level of constancy in values.
newt's got something on palin, or has promised her....the moon?!
mayor of the moonbase
