EU'S EURO-DISASTER MAY CAUSE DOWNFALL OF BRITISH COALITION GOVERNMENT

THIS WOULD BRING TH TOTAL TO 4 GOVERNMENT TOPPLED BY THE ANTI-DEMOCRATIC EU:
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has launched an attack on David Cameron for "isolating" the UK in Europe with his veto of changes to the EU treaty.

Sources close to the Liberal Democrat leader said he did not feel the failed eurozone crisis negotiations had resulted in a good deal for the UK.

The BBC understands Mr Clegg was dismayed when he was woken early on Friday to hear of the PM's decision.

Initially Mr Clegg said the coalition government was united in its position But now sources close to him have confirmed that he "doesn't think this is a good deal for Britain".
Mr Clegg "couldn't believe it", they said, when he was told the summit in Brussels had "spectacularly unraveled".

BBC political correspondent Robin Brant says the comments linked to Mr Clegg mark a considerable change in tone from Friday when he said he and Mr Cameron had worked together on the UK's negotiating stance.
THE EURO AN THE EU ARE NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN DEMOCRACY; THEREFORE, THE PEOPLE OF EUROPE SHOULD REBEL AND DEMAND THEIR NATIONS WITHDRAW FROM THE EU AND THE EURO.

IF THE CAMERON/CLEGG COALITION COLLAPSES, THEN CAMERON SHOULD CALL FOR AN ELECTION AND RUN WITH THE UKIP ON AN ANTI-EU PLATFORM.

THEY'D WIN IN A LANDSLIDE.

RON PAUL GLEEFULLY BOARDS THE BLAME-BUSH WAGON

And now, turning again to that awful demagogue Ron Paul, he's pandering to the leftist anti-war segment by attacking the Bush administration for all the wrong reasons, claiming it was "gleeful" when 9-11 took place (Hat tip: The Blaze):
Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Thursday evening that Bush administration officials were gleeful after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks because it gave them a pretext to invade Iraq.

"Just think of what happened after 9/11. Immediately before there was any assessment there was glee in the administration because now we can invade Iraq," the Texas Republican told a group of mostly young backers in Iowa. He went on to suggest officials are now setting the stage for an invasion of Iran. [...]

Paul's libertarian views - on the foreign policy front, he wants to dramatically reduce the U.S. military presence abroad and end all foreign aid - put him at odds with many Republican voters. A poll from Gallup this week found that 62 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters see Paul as an unacceptable nominee.
And even if he were the only candidate who allegedly understands economy, he still wouldn't be worth backing with twisted, offensive viewpoints like what he's throwing out. No wonder the MSM is hoping he'll win the Iowa caucus by the chance that sensible voters would stay home in case of snowstorm on January 3. And thus, no wonder the MSM like CBS is so useless.
On “Face the Nation” last month, Paul said that while the average American didn’t cause the Sept. 11 attacks, ” if you have a flawed policy it may influence it.”

“I think there‘s an influence and that’s exactly what the 9/11 commission said that‘s what the DOD has said and that’s also what the CIA has said and that’s what a lot of researchers have said,” said Paul. “…our policies definitely had an influence and you talk to the people who committed it and those individuals who would like to do us harm. They say yes we don‘t like American bombs to be falling on our country and we don’t like the intervention that we do in their nation so to deny this I think is very dangerous. But to argue the case that they want to do us harm because we‘re free and prosperous is very dangerous notion because it’s not true.”

He added: “So I‘m saying policies have an effect but that’s a far cry from blaming America. I mean in America, you‘re supposed to be able to criticize your own government without saying you’re un-American.”
Sorry, but even blaming a government and/or its policy is far too easy. For too long now, Paul has blamed government policy yet failed to make a clear condemnation of al Qaeda and jihadism. He also doesn't seem to clearly understand that even if the west wasn't free and prosperous, they'd still antagonize, because it's part of the Koran to attack infidels. To ignore the ideologies and mindsets of the terrorists is what's dangerous, and come to think of it, so is Paul himself.

NEWT GINGRICH ACKNOWLEDGES THAT "PALESTINIANS" ARE AN INVENTION

Specifically, one to delegitimize Israel's existence. From AGI (via Jihad Watch):
(AGI) Washington - The Republican White House candidate Newt Gingrich has accused Obama of taking sides with the Palestinians. The former Speaker and election front-runner also said that the Palestinians are 'an invented people.' Gingrich said that were he to be impartial between a civil law-abiding society and a group of terrorists shooting missiles every day, this would not in fact constitute being impartial but would mean favouring the terrorists. Mr Gingrich does not differentiate between the ANP and Hamas. Interviewed on Israeli TV, Gringrich said 'I believe that the Jewish people have the right to have a state,' while 'we have invented Palestinian people, who are in fact Arabs, and were historically part of the Arab community. [That's why] they had a chance to go many places.'
Interestingly enough, the PLO terrorist Zahir Muhsein admitted this in 1977:
The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism.

For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.
Gingrich's bold statement has not gone over well with Fatah and Hamas. From AP/USA Today (also via Jihad Watch):
JERUSALEM (AP) – A slew of Palestinian officials reacted with dismay Saturday to Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich's statement that the Palestinians are an "invented" people.

The Jewish Channel, a U.S. cable TV network, released excerpts of the interview on Friday in which the former House speaker said Palestinians were not a people because they never had a state and because they were part of the Ottoman Empire before the British mandate and Israel's creation.

"Remember, there was no Palestine as a state — (it was) part of the Ottoman Empire. I think we have an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs and historically part of the Arab community and they had the chance to go many places," Gingrich said, according to a video excerpt posted online.

The Palestinian prime minister, Salam Fayyad, demanded Gingrich "review history."

"From the beginning, our people have been determined to stay on their land," Fayyad said in comments carried by the Palestinian news agency Wafa. "This, certainly, is denying historical truths." [...]

Palestinian legislator Hanan Ashrawi said Gingrich had "lost touch with reality." She said his statements were "a cheap way to win (the) pro-Israel vote."

A spokesman for the militant Hamas rulers of the Palestinian Gaza Strip called Gingrich's statements "shameful and disgraceful."

"These statements … show genuine hostility toward Palestinians," said spokesman Fawzi Barhoum.
No, they are reality, and Gingrich, simply put, has found footing in reality by acknowledging facts. For this, Gingrich deserves a lot of applause.

Update: here's a longer transcript of Gingrich's interview on the Wash. Post.

RE-ARRESTING A TERRORIST

Something to be glad about: a terrorist freed in the Gilad Shalit deal has been recollared:
The IDF detained on Thursday one of the prisoners who was released in exchange for Gilad Shalit, the "ministry of prisoners’ affairs" in the Palestinian Authority (PA) told the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency.

The ministry said soldiers detained Ayed Muhammad Khalil from the village of Qaffin in Samaria (Shomron) along with his brother and sister in law after they were stopped at a flying checkpoint.

Khalil's name appears on the official Israeli list of prisoners released in the Shalit deal. The document says that he was serving a life sentence for "intentionally causing death."
In that case, he deserves to be re-arrested, but there's no telling if it'll last.

1045 days later and Obama still blames Bush

1045 days.

In the mind of Obama, it's as if they never happened.
  • It's as if he didn't pass that 2000 page monstrosity called Obamacare.
  • It's as if he didn't pass that 2000 page TRILLION dollar monstrosity called the STIMULUS.
  • It's as if he didn't pass that 2000 page monstrosity called DODD-FRANK.
  • It's as if he didn't promise that unemployment would stay below 8%.
It's as if Obama wants to forget he's been the President for the last 3 years as much as we do!

CALLING A SPADE A SPADE

FOLKS WHO STILL SUPPORT THIS GUY ARE ALSO ASSHOLES.

JUST SAYING.

Mercersburg students should not have to listen to Reza Aslan

Jihad Watch alerts that Islamic taqqiya specialist Reza Aslan is going to speak at a high school in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. As explained here about this awful man:
Aslan poses as a modern, moderate Muslim, and fools many; in reality, however, he is a Board member of the president of the George Soros-funded National Iranian American Council (NIAC), a powerful Iranian lobbying group in Washington. Arash Irandoost of the Pro-Democracy Movement of Iran calls NIAC chief Trita Parsi "an intellectually dishonest regime apologist and an unofficial and unregistered lobbyist for the Iranian regime." According to Irandoost, "Trita Parsi contributes to the regime's agenda and serves the interests of those in power in the Islamic Republic of Iran, not the Iranians, nor the Iranian-Americans."
Please contact the academy at the info provided by Spencer and company to call on the school not to host Aslan. No student should be forced to listen to the propaganda this disgraceful man is going to blabber.

YOU CAN'T FOOL ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME: OBAMA CONTINUES TO TANK IN THE POLLS

CBS POLL:
... voters remain overwhelmingly pessimistic about the economy, and their concerns are taking a toll on President Obama's re-election chances. Just 41 percent of Americans think Mr. Obama has performed his job well enough to be elected to a second term, whereas 54 percent don't think so...

... when it comes to leading the economy in the right direction, voters are unimpressed: Just 28 percent think he has made progress on improving the economy. And most Americans say the president doesn't share the public's priorities...

... Views of how he has handled the economy is the obvious drag on the president's ratings: While just 33 percent approve, 60 percent disapprove. Similarly, just 35 percent approve his his handling of job creation while 58 percent disapprove....

When asked if Mr.Obama has made real progress fixing the economy, 68 percent say he has not, and just 28 percent say he has. And while 37 percent say the Obama administration's policies prevented the country from going into a deeper recession, just under half - 49 percent - say those policies did not do that.

In addition, more think the policies of the Obama administration have mostly favored Wall Street (42 percent) than mostly favored average Americans (38 percent)

DEVASTATING. AND DESERVED.

THE SINGLE BEST THING AMERICANS CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMY IS GET RID OF OBAMA.

UH-OH: NEW EU TREATY IS UNLAWFUL

VIA GLENN:

BY PASSING A NEW TREATY WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF EVERY MEMBER NATION THE EU HAS IN EFFECT ABROGATED THE EU TREATY - WHICH REQUIRES CONSENSUS.

THIS EXPOSES THE NEW "TREATY" AS A LOSE-LOSE PROPOSITION:
  • IF IT STANDS, THEN IT PROVES THAT THE EU IS AN UNLAWFUL TYRANNY OVER ITS MEMBER STATES - WHICH SHOULD PROMPT THE CITIZENS OF ITS MEMBER NATIONS TO JUSTIFIABLY IGNORE AND CIVILLY DISOBEY ALL EU LAWS AND REGULATIONS.
  • IF IT FAILS, THE THE EURO COLLAPSES.
IF I WAS IN A EURO-CURRENCY NATION, THEN I SHOULD WANT TO DIVERSIFY MY ASSETS OUT OF EURO'S AND INTO SWISS FRANCS AND GOLD AND DOLLARS.

BOMBSHELL: MORE PROOF THAT KAGAN LIED TO CONGRESS - AND MUST RECUSE HERSELF AND/OR BE IMPEACHED

CNS:
Internal Justice Department email communications made just days before the House of Representatives passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act show that then-Solicitor General Elena Kagan was brought into the loop as DOJ began preparing to respond to an anticipated legal complaint that Mark Levin and the Landmark Legal Foundation were planning to file against the act if the House used a procedural rule to “deem” the bill passed even if members never directly voted on it.

In another internal DOJ email communication that same week, Kagan alerted the chief of DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel to the constitutional argument that a former U.S. Appeals Court judge was making against the use of this rule.

Then, during Kagan’s Supreme Court confirmation process four months later, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee asked her in writing if she had “ever been asked about your opinion” or “offered any view or comments” on the “the underlying legal or constitutional issues related to any proposed health care legislation, including but not limited to Pub. L. No. 111-148 [PPACA], or the underlying legal or constitutional issues related to potential litigation resulting from such legislation?"

Kagan answered both questions: “No.”
IT'S BLACK & WHITE.

SHE LIED TO CONGRESS.

SHE SHOULD RECUSE HERSELF AN/OR BE IMPEACHED.

DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN: BRITAIN STANDS ALONE AGAINST ANTI-DEMOCRATIC, SOCIALIST EUROPE

IN THE LATE 1930'S AND 1940'S, BRITAIN STOOD ALONE AGAINST THE ANTI-DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST FORCES THAT HAD TAKEN OVER EUROPE, ALBEIT WITH GUNS.

THE ECONOMIC DISASTER THAT AWAITS EUROPE WILL BE JUST ABOUT AS BAD AS THE ONE SHE SUFFERED IN WW2 - JUST WITHOUT AS MUCH BLOODSHED; (THOUGH THERE WILL CERTAINLY BE SOME).

OBAMA BRAGS ABOUT WHACKING OSAMA AS THE CALIPHATE GROWS AND IRAN GETS CLOSER TO HAVING NUKES

Amid fierce criticism from several Republican White House candidates of following a policy of appeasement on the foreign policy front, President Barack Obama on Thursday offered an icy riposte: "ask Osama bin Laden."

"Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top al-Qaida leaders who've been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement --or whoever's left out there, ask them about that," Obama said at a news conference here.
BASED ON THE EXPANSION OF POWER THAT THE ISLAMO-JIHADISTS HAVE ENJOYED DURING THE LAST 3 YEARS, I GAVE BEGUN TO THINK THAT OBAMA TAKING OUT AL QAEDA IS LIKE CAPONE TAKING OUT HIS RIVALS ON VALENTINES DAY:

AL CAPONE - CHICAGO FAMILY MAN
AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZER

THE DISTURBING RESULTS OF OBAMA'S APPEASING POLICIES SPEAK MORE LOUDLY THAN OBAMA'S BRAGGING WORDS ABOUT KILLING OSAMA.

EGYPT AND SYRIA AND LIBYA AND YEMEN ARE ALL STEADILY BECOMING MORE ISLAMO-FASCIST, NOT LESS.

MITT ENDORSES THE RYAN PLAN THAT NEWT ATTACKED

WASH POST:
Mitt Romney fully embraces Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan

One of the key stories of the day — perhaps the one that will have the greatest long term political impact — has to be that Mitt Romney has now fully embraced Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan.
EVEN THE NYTIMES RECENTLY SAW THE BENEFITS OF THE APPROACH - ALBEIT IN A GENERAL WAY, WITH CAVEATS.

SO, ER... UM, TELL ME AGAIN:

WHO IS MORE CONSERVATIVE?

ME: OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS MITT HAS BEEN VERY CONSERVATIVE AND CONSISTENTLY CONSERVATIVE.

NEED MORE PROOF?

NEWT DIDN'T.

END OF STORY.

German Chancellor Merkel Says, The Euro Has "Lost Credibility"

From the BBC:
The key item on the agenda is a Franco-German proposal on budgetary discipline, with automatic penalties for eurozone nations that overspend.
Pre-summit talks between Britain, France and Germany broke up without agreement as each set out its position.

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the euro had "lost credibility".

VIOLENCE AT ITAMAR, AND MORE ROCKET ATTACKS FROM GAZA

Some Islamic thuggery infiltrates Itamar:
Arabs from the village of Akraba infiltrated an agricultural area in the town of Itamar on Thursday morning. The Arabs came looking for a fight – equipped with metal bars and sticks, stones and other items. The entered an area where some Jewish residents of the town were grazing a flock of sheep and attacked them, inflicting injuries on some of the shepherds. The Arabs also threatened to come back later that night for another attack – this time with guns.

The shepherds called for help from IDF troops, who were attacked as well when they arrived. Two Arabs who attacked residents and soldiers were arrested. A resident of the town managed to take video of the attack. Security staff of the yishuv filed a complaint with police Thursday afternoon over the attack.

Residents said that they saw the Arab attackers taking instructions over the phone from leftist groups – including the “Rabbis for Human Rights Groups,” which consists largely of Conservative and Reform rabbis who have made it their mission to help Arab villagers in Judea and Samaria fight against Jewish residents.
If that group was in any ways helping them, they should be thrown out of the country for aiding and abetting violence.

Next, there's been rocket attack trillion from Gaza:
Palestinian terrorists appeared to be responding to the IDF assassination of an Al Aksa Martyrs Brigade senior commander on Thursday, as a number of rockets exploded in the Negev desert and sirens sounded in southern communities.

The first rocket exploded in the Sedot Hanegev Regional Council at 7:05 p.m.

There were no casualties or damage in the attack, the IDF Spokesperson said via its Twitter account, adding that over one million civilians live in rocket fire range.

A little over an hour later, at 8:10 p.m., three rockets landed in the western Negev. No casualties or damage were reported in the attacks.

At 8:10 p.m. police said two rockets were fired at the western Negev and landed in open territory. Bomb squad units were surveying the scene to locate the rockets.
And so as we see, business as usual.

RON PAUL TRIES TO "PROVE" HE'S ISRAEL'S FRIEND AT AMERICA'S EXPENSE

But don't be taken in by his act. Newsmax interviewed him (via The Daily Caller) and all I can say is, he seems to think he can make a good impression by implying that America is nothing but a conqueror, an act which, quite honestly, is insulting:
Newsmax: What should our relationship be with Israel?

Ron Paul: We should be their friend and their trading partner. They are a democracy and we share many values with them. But we should not be their master. We should not dictate where their borders will be nor should we have veto power over their foreign policy.

This is not just about Israel, by the way, this is about how we should conduct ourselves with other countries around the world.

Newsmax: But Israel is not like other countries. We have a large Jewish population in America. What do you say to those who criticize your policy toward Israel?

Ron Paul: I think that some not only misunderstand the American Constitution and the role we should have in the world, they also misunderstand Zionism. Part of the original idea of Zionism, as I understand it, was that there should be Jewish independence and Jewish self-reliance. Today, America doesn’t want anyone to be self-reliant. We want to rule the world and be the saviors of the world and we are going broke in the process.
Well of course Zionism - which is synonymous with patriotism - can symbolize self-reliance too. The thing is, not only shouldn't Israel be overly reliant upon foreign aid, it hasn't really been for a while now. It's whether America should provide help on the defense front. If we ended up in the same situation as the Yom Kippur war, would Paul want us to be short on weapons to defend ourselves? Thus, if needed, would he be willing to provide shipments as the otherwise dreadful Nixon fortunately did, or, would he balk?

That aside, his claim that America wants to be some sort of a dictatorial force sweeping the globe is insulting and nigh offensive. The claim could probably be made about some liberals, but Paul's problem is that he's not willing to make an unambiguous critique of the Dems for doing what he supposedly abhors.
Newsmax: Some object to your policy of cutting foreign aid to Israel.

Ron Paul: I have objected to all foreign aid. I define foreign aid as taking money from poor people in rich countries and giving it to rich people in poor countries. We just can’t keep doing this. We don’t have the money anymore.

Stop and consider America’s policy: We give $3 billion a year to Israel in loans; and we give $12 billion or more in assistance to Israel’s self-declared enemies. Some of these are countries that say they will drive Israel into the sea.

Newsmax: What do you say to evangelical Christians who want that aid to continue?

Ron Paul: I say to them that our aid in the region is out of balance and it is wrong. Foreign aid does not help Israel. It is a net disadvantage. I say to them that “the borrower is servant to the lender” and America should never be the master of Israel and its fate. We should be her friend.

In October, 1981, most of the world and most of the Congress voiced outrage over Israel’s attack on Iraq and their nuclear development. I was one of the few who defended her right to make her own decisions on foreign policy and to act in her own self-interest.
That doesn't excuse his blame-America tactics, something that even an Israeli can find objectionable, nor his naive viewpoint of Iran's own nuclear arms development. In fact, what this NY Times article tells is insulting too:
The question is whether the old ideologies being resurrected are neglected wisdom or discredited nonsense. In the 1996 general election, Paul’s Democratic opponent Lefty Morris held a press conference to air several shocking quotes from a newsletter that Paul published during his decade away from Washington. Passages described the black male population of Washington as “semi-criminal or entirely criminal” and stated that “by far the most powerful lobby in Washington of the bad sort is the Israeli government.” Morris noted that a Canadian neo-Nazi Web site had listed Paul’s newsletter as a laudably “racialist” publication.

Paul survived these revelations. He later explained that he had not written the passages himself — quite believably, since the style diverges widely from his own. But his response to the accusations was not transparent. When Morris called on him to release the rest of his newsletters, he would not. He remains touchy about it. “Even the fact that you’re asking this question infers, ‘Oh, you’re an anti-Semite,’ ” he told me in June. Actually, it doesn’t. Paul was in Congress when Israel bombed Iraq’s Osirak nuclear plant in 1981 and — unlike the United Nations and the Reagan administration — defended its right to do so. He says Saudi Arabia has an influence on Washington equal to Israel’s. His votes against support for Israel follow quite naturally from his opposition to all foreign aid. There is no sign that they reflect any special animus against the Jewish state.

What is interesting is Paul’s idea that the identity of the person who did write those lines is “of no importance.” Paul never deals in disavowals or renunciations or distancings, as other politicians do. In his office one afternoon in June, I asked about his connections to the John Birch Society. “Oh, my goodness, the John Birch Society!” he said in mock horror. “Is that bad? I have a lot of friends in the John Birch Society. They’re generally well educated, and they understand the Constitution. I don’t know how many positions they would have that I don’t agree with. Because they’re real strict constitutionalists, they don’t like the war, they’re hard-money people. . . . ”
If he wasn't willing to clear things up, how are we supposed to believe him - and reporter Christopher Caldwell - when he claimed he didn't write the newsletter himself? Or that he doesn't approve of it? Or that he made sure to fire the cretin who did write that junk? Besides, he trashed his defense of Israel in 1981 (which might've just been opportunism for all we know) after he started really going downhill in the years that followed by blaming America, opposing the termination of bin Laden and al-Awlaki, and even called for stopping the battle on illegal drugs. He's really no different from Jean-Marie Le Pen, who's pulled similar acts of moral equivalence to cover his muddy tracks. What's really offensive about Paul is how he's not willing to make a distinction between who's good or bad. The RJC was right to ban him from their recent conference. Jonathan Tobin has one of the best arguments why they did the right thing to keep him out:
Paul claims his opposition to aid to Israel ought not to disqualify him for pro-Israel voters. He says aid is bad for the Jewish state and that he respects its sovereignty more than many of its friends who seek to impose American solutions to the peace process that it rejects. But this is not a serious argument.

As for the aid, when Israel was receiving massive amounts of economic aid, one could have argued that U.S. funds merely subsidized the country’s dysfunctional socialist system and did as much harm as good. But that aid has long been phased out, and now the assistance the U.S. provides Israel is to its military. The idea that Israel would be better off without that assistance — and the security cooperation that goes with it — is absurd, especially at a time when the threat from Iran and the Arab world is growing. It should also be noted that almost all of that aid is spent here in the United States on American-made weapons. For Paul to assert that it isn’t needed is a clear indication of his attitude toward Israel’s fate.

But Paul’s extremism goes farther than his opting out of the bipartisan pro-Israel consensus on aid. His view of America’s place in the world and of its Islamist adversaries — who also desire Israel’s destruction — is so skewed as to make his views indistinguishable from those voiced on the extreme left.

Paul’s isolationism is so hard-core that he sees America as a force for evil in the world and its adversaries, such as al-Qaeda, as being justified in their determination to fight us. Paul’s perspective is that of someone who has no quarrel with Islamists who are waging war against both the U.S. and Israel. Even in the GOP’s presidential debates, Paul has rationalized the Islamist regime in Iran and voiced opposition to any effort to stop their drive for nuclear weapons that pose an existential threat to Israel.

People like Ron Paul have taken the valuable libertarian creed of opposition to intrusive government and support for individual freedom and twisted it into a belief system that doesn’t view U.S. security abroad or the life of a besieged democratic Jewish state as something Americans should care about. Far from respecting Israel’s sovereignty, Paul is willing to watch with complacence as its very existence is called into question without the U.S. feeling obligated to lift a finger. His “respect” for Israel is little different from the sentiments voiced by an earlier generation of isolationists — the “America First” group — whose admiration of Nazi Germany and indifference to the fate of the Jews restrained the country’s initial response to both Hitler and the Holocaust.
The problem with Paul, simply put, is that he's willing to turn his back not just on Israel, but on practically everyone in danger of evil around the world. I don't think I've ever even heard him voicing concern for the Copts in Egypt, nor for the blacks in Africa who've been victimized by Islamofascism. Come to think of it, has he ever voiced concern for Americans who're in danger of these same problems? If not, then even there, he's setting a very poor example.

And even if the problem were just his blame-America tactics, the RJC would still be quite justified in barring him from their debate. The notion that Paul would go so far as to make statements offensive to many decent Americans is something that no true supporter of Israel should have to overlook either.

COPENHAGEN PAYS OVER $100 MILLION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE!!!

As many regular readers of this blog know, environmental alarmists and do-nothing bureaucrats have migrated to Durban South Africa for COP17.

Apart from insuring for the relatively constant redistribution of STD's among the worlds wives, prostitutes and chamber maids I find it difficult to identify any positive contribution these meetings have made.

Of course I am not including the higher energy costs and increased regulations that have been so beneficial to the world economy.

Now some of the expenses related to the COP15 fiasco in Copenhagen have come to light.

Perhaps our regular readers will be reassured to know that the cost of securing COP15 was approximately 116 Million US dollars.

THE FREE WORLD NEEDS WHAT SCOTLAND NOW HAS: A LAW THAT BANS FORCED MARRIAGES

SCOTLAND HAS GIVEN THE WORLD MANY GREAT THINGS: SCOTCH, SMOKED SALMON, GREAT OATS, THE PHILOSOPHERS WHO FOUNDED MODERN DEMOCRACY, SCOTCH, PLAIDS, SCOTCH.

A new law protecting people from being married against their will has come into effect in Scotland.

The Forced Marriage (Protection and Jurisdiction) (Scotland) Act 2011 will be enacted today (Monday 28 November 2011) and provides increased protection for both men and women who are affected by forced marriage. ...

"This legislation protects people from being forced to enter into marriage without their free and full consent and extends help to those who have already been forced to enter into marriage without such consent.

"Victims are often vulnerable and isolated among their societies and it is important they receive effective and appropriate support.
THIS IS BETTER THAN A BURQA BAN.

IT SHOULD BE PASSED EVERYWHERE AND MADE A PRE-CONDITION OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE UN AND THE WTO AND TO RECEIVE FUNDS FROM THE WORLD BANK OR IMF.

FORCED-MARRIAGE IS A FOUNDATIONAL STRUCTURE OF ISLAMO-MISOGYNY.

AND ISLAMO-MISOGYNY IS THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF ISLAMO-TERROR:

HOUSEHOLDS THAT TREAT WOMEN AS CHATTEL AND TEACH THEIR BOYS THAT HONOR-KILLINGS ARE FINE ARE HOUSEHOLDS THAT PRODUCE TERRORISTS.

IF WE WANT TO END ISLAMO-TERROR WE SHOULD START BY PASSING A WORLDWIDE BAN ON FORCED MARRIAGES.

I'D RATHER HAVE A BOTTLE IN FRONT OF ME, THAN OBAMA IN OSAWATOMIE

THE ONLY THING MORE IRRITATING THAN OBAMA'S RECENT ORATORICAL ODE TO CLASS WARFARE, IS THE FAWNING MEDIA COVERAGE.

THE TRUTH IS NOTHING OBAMA HAS EVER SAID OR DONE HAS LED TO THE PASSAGE OF A SINGLE BILL.

HE EVEN OUT-SOURCED THE TWO-BIGGEST BILLS PASSED DURING HIS TERM SO FAR - THE STIMULUS AND OBAMACARE.

HE HAS PLAYED GOLF MORE OFTEN THAN HE HAS SPOKEN TO KEY LEGISLATORS OR HAD PRESSERS - COMBINED.

OBAMA HAS BEEN A DISASTER.

LENR UPDATE

[DENNIS] Bushnell, the chief scientist at NASA Langley, said that LENR has a strong potential for a new source of energy. He was optimistic about nickel powder LENR solutions.

“The temperature you can get out of [LENR] is interesting,” Bushnell said. “We’ve had to be careful [in our research in] terms of the energetics. I don’t think there is a power [limitation] problem.

“I think the problem now is of raw courage to look into something that is new. We’ve been fortunate to have a center director at Langley that has the courage to support us to do this. We’ve been at it for three or four years.

“The U.S. efforts on this, for reasons I don’t understand, haven’t gone to the Widom-Larsen theory. They also haven’t gone to try to understand the 18 years of hydrogen-nickel [work] with really superb intellectual content. We need to get off of the Pons-Fleischmann electrochemistry and get into flow systems.”

At the meeting, Bushnell also spoke about Andrea Rossi, the inventor of the Energy Catalyzer.

“We intend to core down on the Rossi stuff and find out what’s real and what’s not,” Bushnell said. “But Rossi’s business is hard to explain other than with some kind of LENR. The Rossi stuff is probably wholly Edisonian and not totally understood, which is an understatement. But we can probably understand it at some point.”

UH-OH: ROUBINI THINKS ANOTHER CRASH IS LIKELY

New York University professor Nouriel Roubini [WHO PREDICTED THE LAST CRASH] said Wednesday that Europe's debt troubles are so profound that the continent is falling into a "recession that will get worse and worse."

And a deep recession likely will lead to another financial panic that could spread around the world — an outcome that will be " very painful," he said.
CRAP.

RUSSIANS TO CLONE A WOOLLY MAMMOTH

Scientists from Russia and Japan are undertaking a Jurassic Park-style experiment to bring the woolly mammoth out of extinction.

The scientists claim that a thigh bone found in August contains remarkably well-preserved marrow cells, which could form the starting point of the experiment.

The team claim that the cloning could be complete within the next five years.
AWESOME!

ROMNEY VERSUS GINGRICH

HERE'S WHY I FEEL THAT ROMNEY IS BETTER THAN GINGRICH:

OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS ROMNEY HAS BEEN MORE CONSISTENTLY CONSERVATIVE.

AND ROMNEY IS MUCH MORE DISCIPLINED.

AND ROMNEY HAS MUCH MORE EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE IN GOVERNMENT AND IN BUSINESS.

ROMNEY IS BETTER EDUCATED. AND SMARTER.

ROMNEY WILL BE ABLE TO RAISE MORE MONEY FOR THE ELECTION.

ROMNEY'S PERSONAL LIFE EMBODIES BETTER FAMILY VALUES.

I'D RATHER HAVE NEWT ADVISING MITT AND MITT MAKING THE DECISION, THAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

BEING POTUS PRINCIPALLY MEANS BEING THE DECIDER.

FOR ALL THE ABOVE REASONS, I FEEL MITT WOULD BE A BETTER DECIDER - AND A BETTER CANDIDATE.

Obama and the Hezbollah Terrorist

Call it the triumph of ideology over national interest and honor. Having dithered for nearly three years, the Obama administration has only a few weeks to bring to justice a Hezbollah terrorist who slaughtered five U.S. soldiers in Iraq in 2007. Unfortunately, it appears more likely that Ali Musa Daqduq will instead be transferred to Iran, to a hero's welcome.
In the early evening of Jan. 20, 2007, in the city of Karbala, south of Baghdad, five black SUVs approached the location of a regular meeting between U.S. and Iraqi military officers. Inside the vehicles, which mimicked U.S. transports (to avoid heightened scrutiny), were a dozen individuals dressed in U.S. military uniforms and bearing U.S. weapons. Their drivers spoke English.
Upon reaching their target, the occupants opened fire on the Americans. One U.S. soldier was killed on the spot. Four others were kidnapped, tortured and executed.
The mastermind of this brutal attack? Ali Musa Daqduq, a Lebanese national and Hezbollah commander. U.S. forces captured him in March 2007, and, in interrogation, he allegedly provided a wealth of information on Iran's role in fomenting, training and arming Iraqi insurgents of all stripes.

MEMO TO OBAMA : GOVERNMENT SPENDING IS TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS

REPEAT:

MEMO TO OBAMA : GOVERNMENT SPENDING IS TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS.
  • GOVERNMENTS DON'T MAKE MONEY.
  • GOVERNMENTS TAKE MONEY PRODUCTIVE PEOPLE HAVE EARNED. AND GIVE IT TO WHOEVER THE CAREER POLITICIANS AND THEIR CRONIES DEEM "WORTHIER."
  • THAT'S TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS.
SO, MR. OBAMA, WHEN YOU CRITICIZE "TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS" YOU SHOULD LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

IT'S NO SURPRISE OBAMA HAS IT BASS AKWARDS:
  • OBAMA HAS NEVER RUN A BUSINESS, NEVER STUDIED ECONOMICS, AND NEVER EVEN HAD JOB IN A PROFIT-SEEKING COMPANY.
  • WHAT OBAMA KNOWS ABOUT FREE MARKETS AND CAPITALISM HE LEARNED FROM KARL MARX AND SAUL ALINKSY AND BILL AYERS AND JEREMIAH WRIGHT.
OBAMA'S CLASS WARFARE IS UN-AMERICAN AND ANTI-AMERICAN AND IT SHOULD DISGUST ALL FREEDOM-LOVING PATRIOTS THAT OBAMA IS ACTIVELY SEEKING TO "TRANSFORM" AMERICA INTO GREECE.

IT'S SICKENING. IT SHALL NOT STAND.

WE SHALL THROW THIS PIECE OF LEFTIST CRAP OUT OF OFFICE IN 2012.

SAD DAY: AFTER 541 DAYS, BELGIUM GETS A GOVERNMENT

Belgium has sworn in a new government, ending a record-breaking 541 days of political deadlock.

... Belgium now holds the modern-day record for the country which has gone the longest without a government - beating previous title holder Cambodia by 182 days.

Mr Di Rupo, 60, is Belgium's first French-speaking prime minister in three decades and the first Socialist to take the premiership in Belgium since 1974.
THAT OUGHT TO FIX THINGS. /

CITIBANK HAS FIRED 100,000 SINCE THE CRASH

THEY REPAID ALL THEIR BAILOUT. AND THEY'RE GONNA LAY OFF ANOTHER 4500.

MAYBE - IF WE REALLY WANT UNEMPLOYMENT TO GO DOWN - THE PRESIDENT SHOULDN'T BE BASHING CAPITALISM?

I MEAN, WOULDN'T IT BE NICER IF THOSE 104,500 PEOPLE STILL HAD A JOB?

OBAMA'S KANSAS SPEECH: PURE STRAW-MAN BS

OBAMA'S UNGTEENTH STRAW MAN SPEECH:
Now, in the midst of this debate, there are some who seem to be suffering from a kind of collective amnesia. After all that’s happened, after the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, they want to return to the same practices that got us into this mess.
In fact, they want to go back to the same policies that have stacked the deck against middle-class Americans for too many years.
Their philosophy is simple: we are better off when everyone is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules.

Well, I’m here to say they are wrong.
WHO THE EFF IS HE DESCRIBING!?

IT AIN'T THE TEA PARTY! AND IT AIN'T THE GOP!

WHAT CAUSED THE CURRENT CRISIS WASN'T GREED OR "TRICKLE DON ECONOMICS".

IT WAS LIBERAL HOUSING/BANKING POLICIES THAT CREATED ALL THE WORTHLESS HOUSING DEBT AND INFLATED THE HOUSING BUBBLE THAT INEVITABLY BURST.

IT WAS SOCIALISM - JUST LIKE IN GREECE AND SPAIN AND THE REST OF THE EUROPEAN NATIONS STRANGLED BY THEIR SOVEREIGN DEBT.

OUR PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE:

KEEP THE FINGERS OF THE CAREER POLITICIANS AND THEIR CRONIES AND THEIR LOBBYIST PALS - OUT OF THE ECONOMY.

AND THAT MEANS THE FINGERS OF LEFT-WING CROOKS LIKE OBAMA AND BLAGOJEVICH AND REZKO AND SOLYNDRA AND BARNEY FRANK.

WHAT SCREWED THE MIDDLE-CLASS WAS THE LEFT-WING SOCIAL-ENGINEERING, NOT LAISSEZ FAIRE POLICIES AND NOT TRICKLE DOWN POLICIES AND NOT CONSERVATIVE POLICIES.

OBAMA CAN ONLY WIN A DEBATE AGAINST A STRAW MAN.

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER KICKS VICTORIA'S SECRET'S SWEETHOT BUTT

Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer has more juice than the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show...

It's the holiday season, mixing in old and new traditions with typical prime-time television fare. Holiday specials can earn Nielsen ratings company bragging rights, too.

"Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer" was the most-watched special of last week, with more than 12 million viewers, with the advantage of being on CBS' powerful Tuesday night. The Victoria's Secret special, also on CBS on Tuesday, was second with 10.4 million viewers.

EGYPT NO LONGER AN ALLY, IF THEY EVER TRULY WERE

Caroline Glick writes about the dark reality taking shape under Egypt's election:
With vote tallies in for Egypt's first round of parliamentary elections in it is abundantly clear that Egypt is on the fast track to becoming a totalitarian Islamic state. The first round of voting took place in Egypt's most liberal, cosmopolitan cities. And still the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafists received more than 60 percent of the vote. Run-off elections for 52 seats will by all estimates increase their representation.

And then in the months to come, Egyptian voters in the far more Islamist Nile Delta and Sinai will undoubtedly provide the forces of jihadist Islam with an even greater margin of victory.

Until the US-supported overthrow of Hosni Mubarak, Egypt served as the anchor of the US alliance system in the Arab world. The Egyptian military is US-armed, US-trained and US-financed.

The Suez Canal is among the most vital waterways in the world for the US Navy and the global economy.

Due to Mubarak's commitment to stemming the tide of jihadist forces that threatened his regime, under his rule Egypt served as a major counter-terror hub in the US-led war against international jihad.
Not so fast. Didn't he help the terrorists who hijacked the Achille Lauro? And what that article says about his sharing Israel's contempt for Yasir Arafat shouldn't be taken at face value. Though the following does sound accurate:
He [Mubarak] would tolerate – some say encourage—vicious anti-Semitism in the state-controlled media and from his own government to deflect criticism of his regime. When asked about it, he would say Egyptians need to be able to let off steam (translation: better they vent their anger on Israel than on me).
And under his rulership, Egypt experienced chilling sexual assaults. Why should we consider him a true ally, if anything? If he couldn't or wouldn't try to reform the country he was in charge of, he didn't accomplish anything.

And that's why in the long term, "peace" with Egypt can only be considered a failure - because those in charge made no genuine attempt to improve the cultural mindset or change it away from the Religion of Peace to better ideals.

Paul Krugman’s big government prescription for Europe proves that US liberals are stuck in a time warp

All over Europe governments have begun to implement austerity measures in an effort to rein in spending and reduce crippling budget deficits. It is hard to find a major European leader these days still advocating the kind of large-scale stimulus spending championed by the Obama Administration in the United States over the past three years. Ironically, the most vocal supporters of greater government spending in the EU can be found today in America.
In yet another hectoring New York Times piece last week on the European financial crisis (a follow-up to his November 10 article “Legends of the Fail”), imaginatively entitled “Killing the Euro”, Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman attacked “deficit scolds and inflation obsessives”, completely dismissing the idea that the EU debt disaster has anything to do with out-of-control spending:
How did things go so wrong? The answer you hear all the time is that the euro crisis was caused by fiscal irresponsibility. Turn on your TV and you’re very likely to find some pundit declaring that if America doesn’t slash spending we’ll end up like Greece. Greeeeeece!
But the truth is nearly the opposite. Although Europe’s leaders continue to insist that the problem is too much spending in debtor nations, the real problem is too little spending in Europe as a whole. And their efforts to fix matters by demanding ever harsher austerity have played a major role in making the situation worse.

UH-OH: HOME PRICES DROP FOR THIRD MONTH IN A ROW...

THE OBAMA ECONOMY STILL SUCKS.

IT WILL TAKE DECADES FOR THE HOUSING SECTOR TO RECOVER FROM THE LEFT'S SOCIAL ENGINEERING DEBACLE (THE CRA/FANNIE MAE/FREDDIE MAC).

SACRE BLEU: FRENCH TO BAN PROSTITUTION

France's parliament is to debate abolishing prostitution through a crackdown which would criminalise payment for sex. The National Assembly will vote on a symbolic resolution drafted by a cross-party commission which, if successful, will be followed by a bill in January. The resolution urges abolition at a time when "prostitution seems to be becoming routine in Europe".
YES, IT'S ROUTINE - ESPECIALLY IF YOU INCLUDE EUROPE'S POLITICIANS.

JOOZE AND EVANGELICALS SLAUGHTER 58 SHIITES IN AFGHANISTAN

OH. SORRY. IT WAS INTERNECINE/SECTARIAN VIOLENCE: THEY WERE SLAUGHTERED BY OTHER MUSLIMS.

MORE:
At least 58 people were killed and scores wounded after bombers struck Shiite religious observances on Tuesday in three cities, detonating explosives amid crowds of worshippers in the first such sectarian attacks in a decade of war in Afghanistan.

...While Afghanistan’s Shiite minority community, mostly ethnic Hazaras, were savagely discriminated against during the years of Taliban rule, they had not been singled out for attack during the current insurgency. Unlike neighboring Pakistan, where sectarian violence is rampant between Shiite and Sunni groups, there had been little such conflict in Afghanistan.

Ashura is the day on which Shiite Muslims honor the death of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Although it has long been a public holiday in Afghanistan, ceremonies were more visible this year than in the past.

DEADLY DRONE ATTACKS AGAINST ENEMY COMBATANTS VERSUS CAPTURING THEM AND TAKING THEM TO GITMO

CAN SOME LIBERAL PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY IT'S OKAY FOR OBAMA TO KILL ENEMY COMBATANTS WITH DRONE ATTACKS IN AFGHANISTAN AND PAKISTAN AND YEMEN AND LIBYA, BUT IT'S NOT OKAY TO CAPTURE THEM AND TAKE THEM TO GITMO WHERE WE MIGHT ACTUALLY LEARN A LOT FROM THEM ABOUT ENEMY OPERATIONS - MAYBE EVEN ENOUGH TO PREVENT FUTURE ATTACKS?

HERE' WHY IS ASK: IT TAKES A COUPLA THREE YEARS TO PLAN A MAJOR TERROR ATTACK. AND IT'S BEEN A COUPLA THREE YEARS SINCE OBAMA STOPPED CAPTURING ENEMY COMBATANTS OR USING RENDITION.

ERGO: THERE WILL BE A SUCCESSFUL ATTACK IN THE USA SOON = A BIG ONE.

THANKS OBAMA.

DESPITE AGW ALARMISM, FEWEST HURRICANES HIT THE USA IN 111 YEARS

AFTER KATRINA, THE ECONAZIS TOLD US THAT DUE TO MAN-MADE CO2, WE WOULD GET MORE FREQUENT AND MORE INTENSE HURRICANES.

MORE PROOF THAT AGW AND AGCC ARE TOTAL EFFIN BS.

UNDER OBAMA, THE ENEMY HAS GOTTEN OUR BEST MILITARY TECHNOLOGY

THE PAKIS GOT OUR STEALTH HELICOPTER - AND SHOWED IT TO THE CHINESE.

AND THE IRANIANS NOW HAVE OUR LATEST DRONE.

SURELY THE CHINESE WILL GET IT.

THANKS OBAMA!

How Much Does Happiness Cost?

The great Spiritual Leaders of History (Jesus, David, Isaiah, the Buddha, etc.) have taught that Happiness (Joy, Peace, Love) does not have a worldly cost associated with it; that it comes from within; from an encounter with a Spirit greater than oneself.

The ideas of these great Spiritual Leaders have influenced Philosophers and Political thinkers for thousands of years. The great Civilizations of Europe, the Americas, and Asia have been built upon these ideas ideas. And these ideas have blossomed into the dominant political ideologies of Representative Democracy and the protection of Human Rights (including the right to the own the product of one's labor.)

There are two other Political Ideologies which struggle for dominance in our world. These two Political Ideologies do not believe that Happiness comes from within. Instead, both believe that if someone else has something one wants, the solution is to take it from that person.

Mohammed and Karl Marx both developed Religio-Political Ideologies which teach their adherents it is ok to confiscate the products of another's labor as booty. Both political ideologies are repressive of Freedom and Human Rights. Both detest open Democracy.

The struggle between Freedom and Oppression (Totalitarianism) is an eternal Spiritual struggle. It resides in the heart of man, and it manifests itself in the world we create.

It's ours to choose. How much will you pay for your God-given Right to Happiness?

GINGRICH : POTUS ELECTION :: ODONNELL : DELAWARE'S SENATE ELECTION

GINGRICH CAN WIN THE NOMINATION, BUT HE'D LOSE THE ELECTION - AND MIGHT COST US THE SENATE.

ROMNEY WILL WIN THE WH, AND GAIN US THE SENATE.

AND I'D RATHER HAVE A MODERATE GOP'ER IN THE WHITE HOUSE WITH A GOP CONGRESS, THEN OBAMA IN THE WHITE HOUSE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

HAD CASTLE BEEN THE GOP CANDIDATE IN DELAWARE, AND LOWDEN IN NEVADA, THEN TH GOP IN THE SENATE WOULD BE IN A MUCH BETTER PLACE.

IOW: TO BECOME A MAJORITY PARTY THE GOP NEEDS SOME SCOTT BROWNS.

UH-OH: CHI-COMS ADMIT FEAR OF MASSIVE SOCIAL UNREST AS THIER ECONOMY FALTERS

BBC:
China's security chief has warned that the government needs better methods to deal with social unrest due to a slowing economy.

Zhou Yongkang, a member of the politburo, asked provincial officials for improved "social management".

China has seen an increase in labour unrest in recent weeks.

The comments are a sign that the Chinese government is worried that another slowdown could spark public anger.

"TEBOWING": ANTI-CHRISTIAN OR JUST UNSPORTSMANLIKE?

TEBOWING DESCRIBED HERE.

MY TAKE:

A true sportsman doesn't make any unusual display after scoring - because he expects to score and because any display would be unsportsmanlike - no matter whether it's a dance or a simple humble bow-down to the Creator.

That's why I'd like to see all such displays penalized and I'd like to return to sportsmanship - no fist-pumping, no spiking, no nothing.

ISLAMOFASCIST RAPE WAVE IN NORWAY

More news on what multiculturalism has brought upon Europe, and in Norway, all the local government can think of doing is stooping to anti-semitism to avoid the serious subjects:
After a police report in Oslo said that Muslims were raping Norwegian women out of a religious conviction that this was the proper thing to do, a stormy public debate erupted, reports Bello, and "the government ministers, most of them avowed anti-Semites, claimed that the report and its publication serve Israel and its policy of occupation."

Norway's justice minister defended the police report but also said that "Israel must be glad to hear about it."
What that man says is truly disgusting. No, we are NOT happy to hear of this horror at all. Sexual violence in any part of the world serves no good purpose at all. On the other hand, one can only wonder what those inmates running the asylum in Viking-land must think...

MUST HEAR AUDIO: JEANE KIRKPATRICK'S SPEECH TO THE GOP CONVENTION IN 1984

JUST SUBSTITUTE THE WORD ISLAMIST FOR SOVIET AND HER SPEECH IS TRUER NOW THAN EVER.

AND OF COURSE - BECAUSE LEFT-WING POLICIES OF APPEASEMENT ARE ALWAYS BAD, HER CRITIQUE OF THE CARTER/MONDALE IS AN ACCURATE INDICTMENT OF OBAMA AND BIDEN.

Text:
Thank you very much for that warm welcome. Thank you for inviting me.
This is the first Republican Convention I have ever attended. I am grateful that you should invite me, a lifelong Democrat. On the other hand, I realize that you are inviting many lifelong Democrats to join this common cause.

I want to begin tonight by quoting the speech of the president whom I very greatly admire, Harry Truman, who once said to the Congress:

"The United States has become great because we, as a people, have been able to work together for great objectives even while differing about details."

He continued: "The elements of our strength are many. They include our democratic government, our economic system, our great natural resources. But, the basic source of our strength is spiritual. We believe in the dignity of man."

That's the way Democratic presidents and presidential candidates used to talk about America. These were the men who developed NATO, who developed the Marshall Plan, who devised the Alliance for Progress.

They were not afraid to be resolute nor ashamed to speak of America as a great nation. They didn't doubt that we must be strong enough to protect ourselves and to help others.

They didn't imagine that America should depend for its very survival on the promises of its adversaries. They happily assumed the responsibilities of freedom. I am not alone in noticing that the San Francisco Democrats took a very different approach.

A recent article in The New York Times noted that "the foreign policy line that emerged from the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco is a distinct shift from the policies of such [Democratic] presidents as Harry S Truman, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson."

I agree.

I shall speak tonight of foreign affairs even though the other party's convention barely touched the subject.

When the San Francisco Democrats treat foreign affairs as an afterthought, as they did, they behaved less like a dove or a hawk than like an ostrich - convinced it would shut out the world by hiding its head in the sand.

Today, foreign policy is central to the security, to the freedom, to the prosperity, even to the survival of the United States. And our strength, for which we make many sacrifices, is essential to the independence and freedom of our allies and our friends.

Ask yourself:
  • What would become of Europe if the United States withdrew?
  • What would become of Africa if Europe fell under Soviet domination?
  • What would become of Europe if the Middle East came under Soviet control?
  • What would become of Israel, if surrounded by Soviet client states?
  • What would become of Asia if the Philippines or Japan fell under Soviet domination?
  • What would become of Mexico if Central America became a Soviet satellite?
  • What then could the United States do?
These are questions the San Francisco Democrats have not answered. These are questions they haven't even asked.

The United States cannot remain an open, democratic society if we are left alone - a garrison state in a hostile world.

We need independent nations with whom to trade, to consult and cooperate.

We need friends and allies with whom to share the pleasures and the protection of our civilization.

We cannot, therefore, be indifferent to the subversion of others' independence or to the development of new weapons by our adversaries or of new vulnerabilities by our friends.

The last Democratic administration did not seem to notice much, or care much or do much about these matters. And at home and abroad, our country slid into real deep trouble. North and South, East and West, our relations deteriorated. The Carter administration's motives were good, but their policies were inadequate, uninformed and mistaken.

They made things worse, not better. Those who had least, suffered most.
Poor countries grew poorer. Rich countries grew poorer, too. The United States grew weaker. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union grew stronger.

The Carter administration's unilateral "restraint" in developing and deploying weapon systems was accompanied by an unprecedented Soviet buildup, military and political. The Soviets, working on the margins and through the loopholes of SALT I, developed missiles of stunning speed and accuracy and targeted the cities of our friends in Europe.

They produced weapons capable of wiping out our land-based missiles.
And then, feeling strong, the Soviet leaders moved with boldness and skill to exploit their new advantages. Facilities were completed in Cuba during those years that permit Soviet nuclear submarines to roam our coasts, that permit planes to fly reconnaissance missions over the eastern United States, and that permit Soviet electronic surveillance to monitor our telephone calls and our telegrams.

Those were the years the Ayatollah Khomeini came to power in Iran, while in Nicaragua and Sandanista developed a one-party dictatorship based on the Cuban model. From the fall of Saigon in 1975 'til January 1981, Soviet influence expanded dramatically into Laos, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, South Yemen, Libya, Syria, Aden, Congo, Madagascar, Seychelles, Nicaragua, and Grenada.

Soviet block forces and advisers sought to guarantee what they called the "irreversibility" of their newfound influence and to stimulate insurgencies in a dozen other places.

During this period, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, murdered its president and began a ghastly war against the Afghan people.

The American people were shocked by these events.

We were greatly surprised to learn of our diminished economic and military strength.

We were demoralized by the treatment of our hostages in Iran.
And we were outraged by harsh attacks on the United States in the United Nations.

As a result, we lost confidence in ourselves and in our government.
Jimmy Carter looked for an explanation for all these problems and thought he found it in the American people.

But the people knew better.

It wasn't malaise we suffered from; it was Jimmy Carter - and Walter Mondale.

And so, in 1980, the American people elected a very different president.
The election of Ronald Reagan marked an end to the dismal period of retreat and decline.

His inauguration, blessed by the simultaneous release of our hostages, signaled an end to the most humiliating episode in our national history.

The inauguration of President Reagan signaled a reaffirmation of historic American ideals.

Ronald Reagan brought to the presidency confidence in the American experience.

Confidence in the legitimacy and success of American institutions.

Confidence in the decency of the American people.

And confidence in the relevance of our experience to the rest of the world.

That confidence has proved contagious.

Our nation's subsequent recovery in domestic and foreign affairs, the restoration of military and economic strength has silenced the talk of inevitable American decline and reminded the world of the advantages of freedom. President Reagan faced a stunning challenge and he met it.

In the 3 1/2 years since his inauguration, the United States has grown stronger, safer, more confident, and we are at peace.

The Reagan administration has restored the American economy.

It is restoring our military strength.

It has liberated the people of Grenada from terror and tyranny.

With NATO, it has installed missiles to defend the cities of Europe.

The Reagan administration has prevented the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations. It has developed flexible new forms of international cooperation with which to deal with new threats to world order. The Reagan administration has given more economic assistance to developing countries than any other administration or any other government, and has encouraged the economic freedom needed to promote self-sustaining economic growth.

The Reagan administration has helped to sustain democracy and encourage its development elsewhere. And at each step of the way, the same people who were responsible for America's decline have insisted that the president's policies would fail.

They said we could never deploy missiles to protect Europe's cities. But today Europe's cities enjoy that protection. They said it would never be possible to hold an election in El Salvador because the people were too frightened and the country too disorganized.

But the people of El Salvador proved them wrong, and today President Napoleon Duarte has impressed the democratic world with his skillful, principled leadership.

They said we could not use America's strength to help others - Sudan, Chad, Central America, the Gulf states, the Caribbean nations - without being drawn into war. But we have helped others resist Soviet, Libyan, Cuban subversion, and we are at peace.

They said that saving Grenada from terror and totalitarianism was the wrong thing to do - they didn't blame Cuba or the communists for threatening American students and murdering Grenadians - they blamed the United States instead.

But then, somehow, they always blame America first.

When our Marines, sent to Lebanon on a multinational peacekeeping mission with the consent of the United States Congress, were murdered in their sleep, the "blame America first crowd" didn't blame the terrorists who murdered the Marines, they blamed the United States.

But then, they always blame America first.

When the Soviet Union walked out of arms control negotiations, and refused even to discuss the issues, the San Francisco Democrats didn't blame Soviet intransigence. They blamed the United States.

But then, they always blame America first.

When Marxist dictators shoot their way to power in Central America, the San Francisco Democrats don't blame the guerrillas and their Soviet allies, they blame United States policies of 100 years ago.

But then, they always blame America first.

The American people know better.

They know that Ronald Reagan and the United States didn't cause Marxist dictatorship in Nicaragua, or the repression in Poland, or the brutal new offensives in Afghanistan, or the destruction of the Korean airliner, or the new attacks on religious and ethnic groups in the Soviet Union, or the jamming of western broadcasts, or the denial of Jewish emigration, or the brutal imprisonment of Anatoly Shcharansky and Ida Nudel, or the obscene treatment of Andrei Sakharov and Yelena Bonner, or the re-Stalinization of the Soviet Union.

The American people know that it's dangerous to blame ourselves for terrible problems that we did not cause.

They understand just as the distinguished French writer, Jean Francois Revel, understands the dangers of endless self- criticism and self-denigration.

He wrote: "Clearly, a civilization that feels guilty for everything it is and does will lack the energy and conviction to defend itself."

With the election of Ronald Reagan, the American people declared to the world that we have the necessary energy and conviction to defend ourselves, and that we have as well a deep commitment to peace.

And now, the American people, proud of our country, proud of our freedom, proud of ourselves, will reject the San Francisco Democrats and send Ronald Reagan back to the White House.

Thank you very much.

NOTE: OBAMA DOESN'T JUST BLAME AMERICA FIRST; HE APOLOGIZES TOO - TAKING APPEASEMENT ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS SURRENDER.

FOR AMERICA AND THE WEST TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE, OBAMA MUST BE STOPPED.
