They were churchgoers and buildings were burned down, but the article does not say who was at fault. In fact, the third paragraph actually attempts to makes it sound as if the violence were Christian-on-Christian and the Lou Nuers were killing Dinkas, rather than Mohammedan terrorists from the North. Despicable.
Juba More than 100 people were killed when tribesmen raided a village in the troubled Jonglei region of southern Sudan, burning buildings and attacking churchgoers, officials said yesterday.
The death toll included 22 soldiers, 11 from the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), and 11 from militia groups — thought to be backed by supporters of northern Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party, Major-General Kuol Diem Kuol, of the SPLA, said. “This is not a raid for cattle but a militia attack against security forces,” he added.
Tribesmen from the Lou Nuer ethnic group raided the Dinka Hol village of Duk Padiet on Sunday morning, forcing a company of soldiers based there to flee.
More than 2,000 people have died and 250,000 have been displaced in intertribal violence across southern Sudan since January, according to the United Nations, which says that the rate of violentdeaths now surpasses those in the war-torn western region of Darfur.
Clashes between rival ethnic groups erupt frequently — often sparked by cattle rustling and disputes over natural resources — while others are in retaliation for previous attacks. (Reuters, AFP)
Yeah, those never involve churchgoers being attacked, so that obviously wasn't what this was about. This was Mohammedans killing Christians in order Islamize and Arabize South Sudan. There were no Christians killing Christians here, but there are certainly some leftists lying for leftists, a commie kitman sort of a thing.
