AS PREDICTED, JAIL FOR NIFONG

He was sentenced to only one day in jail, but he will be going to jail nevertheless.

The Punditarian asked back in June:
NIFONG DISBARRED - JAIL NEXT?
And back in April, the Punditarian noted:
The North Carolina State Bar Association's brief against him is entirely damning, and the State Attorney General's dismissal of all charges against the Lacrosse players, and his characterization of Nifong's zealous prosecution, used unprecedented language in lambasting Nifong for being just the sort of scoundrel he is. At a minimum, he will be disbarred for life. His conduct in this case was so outrageous that he is probably also liable for civil damages. I would not be surprised if he ends up behind bars, as well.
There's more to come. This is a real scandal, and before it all unravels, there will be more payouts -- financial and personal -- from Duke, Durham, and the other truly guilty parties.

FIAT JUSTITIA, RUAT COELUM.

  1. What? Only one day? What a travesty, in light of what he did.

  2. I think the maximum sentence would have been 30 days on this charge, and the fact that a prosecutor was sentenced to even one day of jail time for contempt of court is highly significant.
