ATTACKS ON POLITICIANS AND PUNDITS WHO WERE ONCE MORE LIBERAL THAN THEY ARE NOW IS A COLOSSAL MISTAKE FOR THE RIGHT

CONSERVATIVES - LIKE THE GREAT ONE MARK LEVIN - SHOULD STOP ATTACKING POLITICIANS LIKE MITT ROMNEY AND PUNDITS LIKE CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER BECAUSE THEY WERE ONCE MORE LIBERAL THAN THEY ARE NOW.

ROMNEY AND KRAUTHAMMER AREN'T ANY LESS CONSERVATIVE NOW BECAUSE THEY WERE ONCE BOTH MORE LIBERAL.

AND LEVIN ISN'T ANY SMARTER NOW BECAUSE HE WAS A CONSERVATIVE EARLIER THAN ROMNEY AND KRAUTHAMMER.

YES: ROMNEY WAS ONCE PRO-CHOICE AND KRAUTHAMMER WORKED FOR MONDALE.

WELL, REAGAN ONCE SUPPORTED FDR!

SO I THINK FOLKS LIKE LEVIN SHOULD JUST CRITICIZE THESE POLITICIANS AND PUNDITS FOR WHERE THEY ARE TODAY.

BUT THERE'S AN EVEN MORE IMPORTANT REASON FOLKS LIKE LEVIN SHOULD CHILL OUT:
  • WE ARE COMING UP TO AN INCREDIBLY PIVOTAL  ELECTION IN 2012, AND IF WE'RE GOING TO WIN WE NEED TO CONVINCE A LOT OF POTENTIAL VOTERS WHO ARE ON THE FENCE AND MAYBE HAVE NEVER VOTED GOP, THAT IT'S OKAY TO MOVE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.
  • ATTACKING PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE THAT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS WILL NOT MAKE THESE SWING VOTERS MORE LIKELY TO FEEL COMFORTABLE MOVING TO THE RIGHT.
  • THE CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT SHOULD WELCOME CONVERTS AND NOT TREAT THEM LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS.
AND ANOTHER THING:

ATTACKING ROMNEY BECAUSE HE WAS ONCE MORE LIBERAL THAN HE IS NOW HAS ANOTHER BAD EFFECT ON 2012:

IT WILL DEPRESS TURNOUT IF ROMNEY WINS THE NOMINATION - AND THEREBY HELP OBAMA.

SO LET'S REMEMBER REAGAN'S 11TH COMMANDMENT.

  1. Reagan was exactly right, never more than in 2012. I am a Gingrich supporter, but once we nominate our candidate, he gets my vote. We don't have the luxury of being petty and petulant in this election. The economic and structural fate of our country is on the line.
