THE POLANSKI EFFECT?

Many on the left feel as if they too have been mugged by the reality that's been produced by the chic degenerati in morally relativist/amoral/immoral Hollywood.

Perhaps the tide is turning and goodness and wholesomeness and traditional values will make a comeback?

I hope so.

The arrest of Polanski may be a major inciting event.

Inciting events have the power to cause - or begin at least - a PARADIGM SHIFT of a person's political outlook.

The Fall of the Wall opened many people's eyes to the failure of socialism.

The Second Intifada and Jeningrad made many people see the folly of OSLO - of negotiating with terrorists.

Many NYC'ers had their eyes opened by Rudy and accepted that looking the other way and trying to be Mr. Nice Guy was never going to make the city safer or cleaner or improve our quality of life.

And opponents of Welfare Reform have to admit it worked and that the Great Society was a failure.

The Polanski case may do the same for many people who had heretofore defended the chic degenerati and the Gramscian aesthetic.

AND THE KEY HERE IN NOT THE FACT THAT POLANSKI IS A CHILD RAPIST FINALLY BEING BROUGHT TO JUSTICE.

THE KEY HERE - WHAT'S OPENED A LOT OF PEOPLE'S EYES - IS WHAT POLANSKI'S DEFENDERS HAVE BEEN SAYING, WEINSTEIN AND WHOOPI AND SO ON.

THEY'VE EXPOSED THEMSELVES - LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY.

AND MANY PEOPLE ON THE LEFT DON'T LIKE WHAT THEY'VE SEEN.

Good.

More here.
