Hugo Chavez, the autocratic anti-capitalist in charge of Venezuela has found a new “bourgeois” target for his ire: golf.
According to the New York Times, he sees the sport as elitist, and his followers are moving to close down golf courses and build houses.
It is an odd conundrum that golf has such an elitist image in many countries while in Scotland, the sport’s home, it is as ordinary and participatory as football on a beach in Brazil.
Interestingly, Cuba, a firm ally of Chavez, is actually building golf courses according to the NYT. Perhaps Chavez’s main problem is an incurable slice.
ACTUALLY, I THINK CHAVEZ HOOKS TO THE LEFT - THE EXTREME LEFT. HEH.
BTW: OBAMA IS AN AVID GOLFER (WHO HAS PLAYED ALMOST EVERY WEEK THIS SUMMER SINCE BECOMING POTUS!), SO THIS MAY CAUSE A RIFT BETWEEN THESE TWO COMRADES!
