Today, we must remember not only the heroic acts of the fallen, but the heroism of bereaved families: of the parents, who chose to live on after that horrific knock on their door; of the brothers and sisters, who had to face a harsh reality; of the orphans, whose father was taken from them in an instant and turned into a hero who can never truly help them; and of the widows, who protect their children as lionesses protect their cubs. These are also acts of daily heroism, for which no one is awarded a medal.And those who perform daily acts do deserve some form of honor. Tonight, it may be possible to fit that in.
