Did Obama challenge the SCOTUS's power in order to make the GOP stand up for the INVIOLABILITY of any SCOTUS decision in anticipation of the SCOTUS upholding Obamacare and thereby undercutting any possible criticism the GOP might level at the majority?

Just worrying... It's the only explanation for Obama's remark that allows it to be painted as intelligent and tactically sound.

But I also think back to Obama's scolding of the SCOTUS in his 2010 SOTU message. He said, "With all due deference to the separation of powers," then proceeded to tell off the justices about a recent decision on the court's part.
Justice Alito murmured at the time, "That's a lie."
