DANES ENACT THE EPITOME OF NANNYSTATE TAXES: A FAT TAX

Denmark has imposed a “fat tax” on foods such as butter and oil as a way to curb unhealthy eating habits.

The Nordic country introduced the tax Saturday, of 16 kroner ($2.90) per kilogram (2.2 pounds) of saturated fat in a product.

Denmark, like some other European countries, already has higher fees on sugar, chocolates and soft drinks, but Linnet Juul says he believes the Nordic country is the first in the world to tax fatty foods. In September, Hungary introduced a new tax popularly known as the “Hamburger Law,” but that only involves higher taxes on soft drinks, pastries, salty snacks and food flavorings.

... “Higher fees on sugar, fat and tobacco is an important step on the way toward a higher average life expectancy in Denmark,” health minister Jakob Axel Nielsen said when he introduced the idea in 2009, because “saturated fats can cause cardiovascular disease and cancer.”

JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THE BUREAUCRATS AND THE POLITICIANS DECIDING HOW YOU SHOULD LIVE YOUR LIFE.

AND THE FACT THAT THEY RUN THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM AND DOLE OUT PENSIONS IS WHAT GIVES THEM THIS RIGHT.

DENMARK TYPIFIES THE LEFT'S NANNYSTATE DREAM:

A STATE THAT TAKES CARES OF YOU FROM CRADLE TO GRAVE AND ALLOWS YOU TO BEHAVE BADLY -

AS LONG AS YOU DON'T QUESTION THE STATE'S POWER AND ITS AMORAL PO'-MO' MULTICULTURALIST PROGRAM.

OF COURSE, THE FACT REMAINS -

AND AS IRELAND AND GREECE AND SPAIN AND ITALY AND THE USSR AND RED CHINA AND NORTH KOREA AND CUBA PROVE -

YOU CANNOT RAISE TAXES HIGH ENOUGH TO ENSURE THAT EVERYONE GETS WHAT YOU PROMISE,

SO YOU END UP CUTTING SERVICES, MEANS TESTING PENSIONS, AND KILLING THE ECONOMY BY SLOWING ECONOMIC GROWTH.

SIGH. WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN... WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN.

  1. If Obama is re-elected, this tax will appear here in the United States, too.
