UK MET OFFICE: LANCASHIRE HAD ITS COLDEST DECEMBER SINCE RECORD-KEEPING BEGAN 100 YEARS AGO

LANCASHIRE EVENING POST:

Lancashire experienced its coldest temperatures in December since records began 100 years ago.

Figures from the Met Office reveal the average for the month was the coldest since 1910.

The previous coldest December in the county occurred in 1981 with an average December temperature of -0.2 degrees Celsius.

Last month’s average was down to an even chillier -0.9 degrees Celsius..

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “That’s the coldest by quite a long way actually.

“The coldest month of the year is normally January. December is usually quite warm.
