WHICH IS FINE FOR PLAYBOY, BUT NOT TV:
ON TV, IT'S POP CULTURE GONE WILD:
Watch the video: Sex scandal in 'Dancing with the Stars'
Playboy model Silvana Escudero stripping off topless and simulated sex during the Argentinian edition of 'Dancing with the Stars'
REPEAT: I THINK THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR BROADCAST TV.
PRODUCERS ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO BE MORE SENSATIONALISTIC TO GET HIGHER RATINGS.
AND IN OUR CULTURE'S RACE TO THE BOTTOM - ON A SLIPPERY SLOPE, WHAT'S NEXT: GAY DANCING WITH THE STARS!? SIMULATED SEX-DANCING WITH YOUR PETS!?
OY.
IMHO, THIS RACE TO THE BOTTOM IS MISGUIDED:
REMINDER TO HOLLYWOOD:
THE BIGGEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME ARE NOT PRURIENT;
THEY ARE WHOLESOME AND REINFORCE POSITIVE PRO-SOCIAL VALUES.
AND THIS IS TRUE WORLDWIDE, NOT JUST IN THE USA:

I DON'T FAVOR A BAN ON EXPLICIT SEX IN MEDIA - JUST ON BROADCAST MEDIA.
I AM ARGUING THAT EXPLICIT SEX IS INAPPROPRIATE IN PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE MEDIA AND A CRASS/CHEAP/EASY WAY TO BOOST RATINGS/INTEREST/EXPOSURE/PRESS AND ESCAPE THE MASS MEDIA CLUTTER.
AND THAT THE BEST WAY - BOTH COMMERCIALLY AND CULTURALLY - IS TO PRODUCE SHOWS (FICTIVE OR NOT) THAT REINFORCE POSITIVE VALUES WHICH HELP US SURMOUNT THE STRUGGLES WE ALL FACE OUR LIVES.
AND THAT THIS CAN BE DONE WITHOUT SEXUALLY EXPLICIT OR EXPLOITATIVE GIMMICKRY.
As Argentina does not produce much, they no doubt are touting for some sex business. From their new Best friends, the arabs and muslims:

I don't favour a ban on anything, anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very slippery slope towards banning anything "inappropriate" in any form where a group of government bureaucrats decides what's "inappropriate".
That would of course see the end of this (and every other left-of-Kos) blog quite quickly, as government censors would deem them inappropriate and force them off the net.
It would force a near instant ban on Fox News as well, for not being politically correct enough.
No more Sarah Palin's Alaska either.
