'Guardian' says US official assured Abbas Washington could consider allowing such measures to pass if there's provocative settlement activity.)WE PREDICTED THIS DURING THE 2008 CAMPAIGN.
In an attempt to launch indirect proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinians, the US has given private assurances that it would consider not using its veto power against UN Security Council condemnations of any significant new settlement activity, the Guardian reported.
A Palestinian source quoted by the UK paper said David Hale, a deputy of US Middle East envoy George Mitchell, told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas last week that if there was "significantly provocative settlement activity," including in east Jerusalem, Washington may consider allowing UNSC resolutions censuring Israel to pass. According to the paper, the source said "it was understood that meant the US would abstain from voting on a resolution rather than use its veto."
OBAMA IS AN ANTI-ZIONIST TO THE CORE. JUST ASK RASHID KHALIDI.

Abdullah: Israel playing with fire
ER UM... AS IF BUILDING APARTMENTS WAS MORE DESTABILIZING THAN IRAN'S NUKE PROGRAM.Jordan’s King Abdullah on Thursday reiterated his warning to Israel over its policies in east Jerusalem and the West Bank.
“Israel is playing with fire concerning Jerusalem and it must stop all unilateral moves in the occupied territories,” said the Jordanian monarch.
ABDULLAH AND OBAMA SEEM TO BOTH FEEL THIS WAY.
IT'S INSANE!
One of the best steps to world peace is the elimination of hypocrisy - one of them is the unabashed and ugly auto-veto on anything that Israel is the subject of. It is not a matter of right or wrong but that unacceptable political big-brother protection, particularly when Israel has time and time again proven that if it comes down to the crunch, she will dump anything and anyone, including the US.
ReplyDeleteThe comment about King Abdullah's comments being relevant to the Iran question is to be honest - naive and obviously politically biased. The building of appartments (of which the commentor has obviously ignorned the fact that it is at the cost of Palestinian homes and to purposefully change demographics for some further excuse later on) in Jerusalem breaches international agreements, standards and the sensitivity of an entire region.
Israel's constant flipping the finger to international laws and standards simply is something that needs to be dealt with, if anything to allow the opposition to issues like Iranian and North Korean nuclear build-ups to have the moral backing as much as anything else. Whilst Israel is "automatically-protected", flaunts treaties, steals land and will not be a part of the NPT with full open inspections like anyone else - it is impossible to look serious in any dealing with the Iranian threat - a threat that is real.
One well-balanced commentator, a former US Senator for the Republican Party, correctly said - amongst the hallmarks of the US identity and enshrined in the US Constitution, is the pursuit of happiness, freedoms, rights and signficantly the rights to protect one's land. How can the US constantly back-up the abuse of that fundamental American ideal?
If Israel has the moral and legal rights to all its actions and claims, then it has nothing to fear in open debate, tribunals, inspection regimes and votes. The argument of collective anti-semitism is only an excuse, what collectiveness that is presently shown has a lot more to do with returning balance and bias.
DONNNY - U R A WEIRD ONE.
ReplyDeleteONE ALLY PROTECTING ANOTHER IS BAD!?
WEIRD. I THOUGH THAT'S WHAT ALLIES DO.
ISRAEL ABSORBED SCUDS IN THE GULF WAR. THAT'S AN ALLY!
YOU WROTE:
Jerusalem breaches international agreements,
NONSENSE. IT VIOLATES NONE.
AFTER WW2 MUCH LAND WAS ANNEXED AND 25 MILLION GERMAN REFUGEES WERE FORCED FROM THEIR HOMES IN POLAND, RUSSIA, AND SUDETENLAND. WHAT ISRAEL HAS DONE IS MUCH LESS THAN WHAT EUROPEANS DID. HAVING ONE SET OF RULES FOR GENTILES AND ANOTHER FOR JEWS IS ANTISEMITIC.
YOU WROTE:
Israel's constant flipping the finger to international laws and standards
NOT ONCE, NOT EVER.
YOU'RE IGNORANT ANTI-SEMITE AREN'T YOU!
THE GENEVA TREATY OUTLAWS FORCIBLE RELOCATION TO OCCUPIED TERRITORY. ISRAEL IS NOT IN VIOLATION OF THAT TREATY OR ANY OTHER LAW. THOSE WHO SAY SHE IS ARE IGNORANT OR DUPES.
YOU MAY CHOOSE ONE OR BOTH!
ALL THE BEST - YOU FUCKING PIECE O0F SHIT MORON DUPE.
you got an honorable mention..... http://blootstellen.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/hopeless-fools-or-ugly-bloggers/
