BBC: Out-of-hours GP care 'inadequate'
Too many people in England receive poor quality out-of-hours doctors' services, the Patients Association has warned.
In some areas, a fifth of patients described the service as "poor" or "very poor".
Some 1.1m patients responded to the government survey.
... Across England as a whole, 65% of those who had used the service in the past six months said their out-of-hours care was good or very good, while 13% regarded it as poor or very poor.
But of those who had been prescribed or recommended medicines by out of hours GPs, 15% said they found it not easy or not at all easy to get hold of the drugs.
And some 35% of all those who took part in the survey said they did not know how to contact their GP out of hours.
... Ministers have given trusts until the end of the year to follow strict new guidelines on out-of-hours care.
And campaigners have described the current system of providing after-hours GP cover as "an accident waiting to happen".
"OUT OF HOURS" DEFINITION FROM NHS:
Since 2004, GPs have been able to choose whether or not to provide 24-hour care for their patients.
The out-of-hours (OOH) period is from 6.30pm to 8.00am on weekdays and all day at weekends and bank holidays.
I GUESS IN BRITAIN YOU HAD BETTER ONLY EVER NEED A DOCTOR DURING OFFICE HOURS.
OOH HEALTHCARE IN BRITAIN HAS ACTUALLY KILLED PEOPLE.
SOCIALIZED HEALTHCARE SUCKS.
IF THE BRITS - WHO INVENTED IT - CAN'T MAKE IT WORK, THEN OBAMA AND THE DEMS WON'T MAKE IT WORK EITHER.
NHS IT in crisis as doctors demand halt to electronic recordsELECTRONIC RECORDS FOR EVERYONE IS ANOTHER THING OBAMA WANTS US TO DO.
£13bn programme hits major criticismsThe British Medical Association has called for an immediate halt to the multibillion pound rollout of electronic records for NHS patients.
The doctors' association lambasted the state of the £13 billion (US$19.4 billion) NHS IT rollout and warned that the "break-neck speed" deployment of the records risked "further" eroding doctors' and patients' belief in electronic records. The entire programme was facing "failure", it said, unless the rollout was properly evaluated.
It also said it no longer wanted to be associated with the scheme on a promotional publicity video used by the NHS to demonstrate staff support.
AND IT WOULD BE ANOTHER HUGE DISASTER.
OBAMACARE MUST BE DEFEATED.
