Finally, Toyota Fights Back - Disputes Electronic Systems Caused Acceleration Problems

[UPDATED: SCROLL DOWN!]

As I've stated here, I do not believe there is really any fundamental problem with the acceleration systems of Toyota vehicles.

I believe the attacks against the Toyota Motor Corporation are politically motivated. They are the work of journalists attempting to make a name for themselves. They are born out of, and given impetus, a general anti-Capitalist mindset amongst journalists, and institutions like the Los Angeles Times (who "broke" this story).

(In the interest of full disclosure, I know people on both sides of this issue. I have a relative who is on the Toyota design team, and an old friend of mine is among the team of journalists at the LA Times who are attacking Toyota.)

And, the cause has been taken up by the Obama Administration, because the Obama Administration, being the owner of Chrysler and GM would like nothing more than to take out it's competition.

In other words, the government, being in the business of Socialism, is now competing against American business. That's ok, in a sense. What Capitalist Pig Corporation doesn't want to take away market share from it's competition?

But, the problem is, the Obama Administration is using the threat of law by decree to attempt to begin the dismantlement of the most successful automotive corporation in the United States and the world.

Toyota has had to shut down factories, decrease production, and, essentially, concede market share to it's competition over a non-existent problem. The evidence that the problem is imagined lies in one very simple point; those who attack Toyota never give the solution to the problem, which is simple in an of itself:

PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND APPLY THE BRAKES.

If those writing the articles for the Los Angeles Times, and those in the Obama Administration, who are attacking Toyota, really cared about the human element here, they would be shouting the solution from the rooftops.

But, they are not.

Instead, it's just a relentless attack.

Enough already! I'm glad to see Toyota has finally decided to fight back with the truth:

NEW YORK – Toyota Motor Corp. plans Monday to try to undercut suggestions that its electronics systems caused the sudden acceleration problems that led to the recall of more than 8 million vehicles.

The automaker plans an event in which it will seek to debunk a critic who claims faulty gas pedals did not cause the sudden acceleration.

Toyota will aim to duplicate the scenario created by David W. Gilbert, a professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Gilbert told Congress on Feb. 23 that he was able to recreate sudden acceleration in a Toyota vehicle by manipulating its electronics.

The company is calling in the director of Stanford University's Center for Automotive Research to try to refute the claims. Toyota said Stanford professor Chris Gerdes will show that the malfunctions Gilbert produced "are completely unrealistic under real-world conditions and can easily be reproduced on a wide range of vehicles made by other manufacturers."

Stanford's Center for Automotive Research is funded by a group of auto companies, including Toyota.

Toyota also has hired a consulting firm to study whether electronic problems could cause unintended acceleration. The firm, Exponent Inc., released an interim report that has found no link between the two.

The event planned Monday is part of a broad campaign by the world's biggest automaker to discredit critics, repair its damaged reputation and begin restoring trust in its vehicles.

I own two Toyotas now, and I will soon be buying a new Toyota to replace my wife's car.

Fuck Government Motors. I do not want to live in a company town, like God Damned Tom Joad.

Forgive my language, but I've been chewing on the incessantly inedible Grapes of Wrath reaped by the Obama Administration and it's sinister antics.

Enough.

Obama must leave office.

Is the LA Times Attempting to Destroy Toyota and help GM???
When I was 17 years of age - a newly-licensed driver - I had an incident happen which was terrifying. The motor-mounts on my 1969 Ford Fairlaine broke, suddenly, and the accelerator pedal fell out from underneath my foot.

I was making a left turn at the time, and I was headed towards a corner on which a Gas Station stood.

My car accelerated towards the gas pump, inexplicably (cuz, I had no idea what the hell was going on), as if it was demon-possessed. I jammed on the brakes, but that didn't stop the car, it just turned it into a squealing, screaming demon.

I was about three feet from the gas pump, when I had the presence of mind to put the car in neutral, and it stopped.

Well, what do you know? If a car is out of control, you can put it in neutral, apply the brake, and it will stop.
PASTORIUS POSTED THIS A FEW TIMES SINCE THEN, TOO.

IF MORE PEOPLE - AND "BIG BLOGGERS" - READ THIS BLOG, THEN EVERYONE WOULD BE BETTER INFORMED.

WE'RE GLAD AND GRATEFUL THAT YOU'RE HERE - NOW GO OUT AND SPREAD THE WORD!

  1. THOSE ATTACKING TOYOTA ESTIMATE THAT 19 PEOLE HAVE BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF THE GAS PEDAL ISSUE.

    PERHAPS.

THAT'S FAR LESS THAN THE 3000 ESTIMATED TO HAVE BEEN KILLED BY CAFE STANDARDS.

YES: THE LIBS OF CONGRESS HAVE KILLED MORE PEOPLE WITH THEIR CAR "DESIGNS" THAN TOYOTA.

  2. A friend of mine just let me know about a problem with the Chevy Cobalt. It's a computer malfunction which shuts down the steering system at random.

His daughter was in an accident at 50 MPH because of it.

Chevy has, apparently, recalled 1.3 million vehicles, but because this is Government Motors we are talking about, the LA Times nor the NYT nor the rest of the MSM bothers to report on it.

There is no solution to the steering problem, other than a recall.

With the Toyota problem there is an instantaneous solution available to EVERYONE.

And yet, the MSM does not report the solution.

They couldn't care less if people die, as long as they kill the evil Capitalist Toyota Motor Corporation, no matter how many American jobs are lost in the process.

  3. They're un-shutting down all the GM dealerships just to piss away more money now, like the free market couldn't have just taken care of all this much more cheaply.

I fucking love my Toyota. I wouldn't trade it for a new Cadillac even though I have to open it from the passenger's side. Also, the door handle broke off the inside of the passenger's side in my dad's Cadillac the first time anyone opened it. No joke.

Bring the snow, Goracle, because I eat it up like Nutella in my '95 Camry, goddammit. And I don't even have to sit on a phonebook to drive it like I do every American car. I'm 5 foot 4 1/2, which is average height for women and Japanese people.

Toyota was the original feminist car company. I may do a featured post on that, in fact. I really love Toyota that much.

    Good. Don't buy a Cobalt.

  5. My Toyota Camry is the best car I've ever owned.

I've owned two cars (an Infiniti J30 and a Mistubishi Eclipse) that I liked better, but the Camry has been the most reliable car I've ever owned.

The worst car I've ever owned was the only post-60's American car I ever bought. I bought a Saturn new back in 1997 or so. It was a total piece of shit.

I don't think I'd ever buy American again.

I'm with Jdamn on this. Let the free market take care of it.
