OBAMA AND THE AMERICAN LEFT: REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH. CAMERON AND THE BRITISH RIGHT: REDISRIBUTE POLITICAL POWER.

CHRIS CALDWELL/NYTIMES MAGAZINE:

Unlike in the United States, where the economic crisis has led people to re-examine their assumptions that government is more often the problem than the solution, in Britain the politics discredited are those of the center-left.

So the alternative policies to which the public is willing to lend an ear are very different: parsimonious, libertarian, suspicious of government.

At the height of the expense scandals in May, Cameron gave a speech at the Open University in the city of Milton Keynes.

Standing among library stacks before cameras and a small audience, he said,

“We need a massive, sweeping, radical redistribution of power, from the state to citizens, from the government to Parliament, from Whitehall to communities, from Brussels to Britain, from judges to people, from bureaucracy to democracy. . . . We must take power away from the political elite and give it to the man and woman on the street.”

WE NEED THAT HERE, TOO. DESPERATELY!

WATCH HIM FIGHT THE PM:

WE NED A FIGHTER LIKE THAT HERE, SOMEONE TO ATTACK AND ATTACK AND ATTACK OBAMA.
