Only a principled staunch conservative could stand up to the entrenched partisans and liberals in California's state government.
As big a personality as AHNOLD was, he had no conservative core principles to rely on, and so caved into the entrenched political class time and time again.
It was all in the name of moderation - which, it turns out, is just another word for expediency.
Governing successfully --- especially in tough times --- requires courage - steadfastness, not expediency, not splitting the difference.
Splitting the difference means you dig yourself into the hole a little slower, that's all.
The people of California have had enough.
It's time they elected a CONSERVATIVE governor again.
A real one.
And it's time the GOP recognized that "moderation in defense of liberty is no virtue".
Moderate anything means no principles at all. As you say, it simply means splitting the difference between the poles of the pendulum at any given time. A moderate in Nazi Germany would have asked if there might be a more humane way of disposing of the Jews.
