The US National Weather Service warned that a steep temperature drop, a blizzard or a downpour could present a challenge to the millions expected to attend Mr Obama's presidential inauguration on Jan 20.DC EXAMINER:
... weather services said there is a 30 per cent chance of snow before the ceremony. Local authorities have prepared a fleet of 200 snowploughs and salt trucks ready to hit the main arteries in case of a snowfall.
"Watch for signs of frostbite ... watch for signs of hypothermia - shivering and numbness, confusion ... slurred speech," the local government warned on its website.
Ronald Reagan's 1981 inauguration was the sunniest in recenty decades ...
Cold weather on Inauguration Day has also had dramatic consequences. William Harrison took the oath of office without wearing a coat and in freezing temperatures on March 4, 1841 while delivering the longest inaugural address in American history, lasting an hour and forty minutes. He then rode through the streets on his horse in the inaugural parade. A few days later, he fell with pneumonia and died the next month.
Accuweather.com on Thursday released a forecast that had D.C.’s high temperature at 20 degrees today — the lowest in more than a decade. The weather is expected to be about 10 degrees colder than average through the inauguration with biting winds making it feel even colder.HARDLY THE STUFF AGW IS MADE OF.
- SO WILL OBAMA MENTION CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE "GREEN ECONOMY" IN HIS INAUGURAL?
- IF HE DOES, IT MAY GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE BIGGEST BLUNDER IN ANY INAUGURAL SPEECH - EVER.
(IF OBAMA DOES MENTION "CLIMATE CHANGE", THEN I'D SAY HE REALLY IS THE COMMITTED LEFTIST WE ALL FEAR.)
Sometimes, when it snows and ices up, the subway's third rail freezes and strands the train's riders.
ReplyDeleteWith the forcing of Inauguration attendees onto the subway and walking paths (roads and bridges closed), we have a prescription for one helluva mess here in the D.C. area.
Attendees are expecting a big party on Tuesday but may get something quite different.
