OBAMA WANTS TO RESCUE DIGITAL TV

I became aware of the switch from analog to digital television almost two years ago.

If I knew, anyone should have. I pay very little attention to techie news.

The government obviously knew too. Still there's a shortage of converter boxes.

Now we have this, from "The One":
The push to postpone the nation's switch to digital television next month got a boost yesterday when a top aide to President-elect Barack Obama sent a letter to key members of Congress urging a delay, saying there is "insufficient support" for the problems consumers will experience during the shut-off of analog signals.
Bread and circuses, anyone? A reminder as to what the phrase means:
"Bread and circuses" (or Bread and games) (from Latin: panem et circenses) is an ancient Roman metaphor for people choosing food and fun over freedom. It often appears in commentary that accuses people of giving up their civic duty and following whichever political leader offers to satisfy their decadent desires.
