BENNY BEGIN'S BACK!

A very decent politician is returning from limbo to the spotlight:
(IsraelNN.com) Dr. Benny Begin announced on Sunday that he will leave his job as head of the Geological Institute and will vie for a spot in the Likud's list of Knesset candidates for the upcoming elections.

Begin is known for three blatant characteristics: a political outlook promoting Jewish sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, a liberal social outlook, and impeccable character.

[...]

Begin returned to the Likud four years ago, and is now returning to active politics. Likud members welcomed him, in the knowledge that his name and reputation are an electoral asset. MK Gideon Saar, the Likud's faction whip in the Knesset, said, "Begin will be a tremendous addition. He is a symbol of values, ideology, clean hands and clear thinking."
I'm glad he's finally decided to return to politics. I think he made a very serious mistake to go with the "party" called National Union almost a decade ago, because of how startlingly irresponsible their idea of campaigning was: their campaign was more like harrassing the Likud (or the National Religious Party) in a Quixotic attempt to draw every supporter from that party over to them, without focusing clearly on any of the hard-hitting issues. That's why they ultimately failed, and why I will decidedly not vote for them again.

The National Union may be on the verge of collapse anyway. Effie Eitam may be joining the Likud, as might even Arye Eldad, and without them, the National Union will probably lose some signifigance, deservedly. They certainly won't be able to attack other political parties now without making real fools of themselves. Let's hope they actually come to their senses now and do some real campaigning for a change. But that still won't convince me to vote for them again. My vote is with the Likud now, and I'm glad that Begin is returning.
