The Evolution of a Political NIE, and what it says about the State Department

I would like to re-post here the comments of one of my favorite readers, retire05, regarding the "coincidental" authorship of the recent NIE--which claimed that Iran is not interested in producing a nuclear weapon. In other words all of those centrifuges that the Iranians have in operation, which are producing weapons grade uranium for a bomb--are just for "show", not to mention the ballistic missiles and nuke delivery mechanisms they are also manufacturing and testing. All to be ignored, at least if you buy into the fiction authored by State Department lackeys of Soros and the DNC.

Add to retire05's commentary below the fact that both the CIA and DIA dissented from this NIE report's conclusions about Iran (as reported by Michael Ledeen--the dissent is in a form of a "footnote" on the released NIE report....), and what you have is a fictional and highly political policy document, written by one or more State Department Democrat partisans, readily reported by the DNC's lap dogs at the New York Times and in the MSN, crowed about as "a great victory" by Ahmadinejad, and (obviously) written with one purpose and one purpose only: to discredit the Bush Administration:
DT, this NIE is like the box of Christmas ornaments you have been storing in your closet; you open it only to find rats scrambling out of it.

On Dec. 3rd, during a speech at Brown University, Mrs. Valerie Plame Wilson announced that she had just received a phone call from "a lawyer" telling her that Patrick Fitzgerald, America's most famous witch hunter, had agreed to release the statements of President Bush and VP Cheney to one Henry Waxman (D) for the purposes of more investigation in the outing of non-covert Mrs. Plame-Wilson. Remember, Waxman promised that there would be investigation after investigation into this administration. Plame made this announcement just three days after the release of the NIE that has the Democrats all doing the dance of the Dervish.

What is even more interesting are the authors of the NIE, which includes Kenneth Brill, a career bureaucrat at State who is a left over from the Madaline Halfbright era and who not only helped the Democrats squash the nomination of John Bolton to the UN, but also was active in African affairs at the same time that Mrs. Plame-Wilson's infamous husband was an ambassador.

Joe Wilson was an ambassador 92-95 while Brill was Executive Secretary to the Dept. of State and Special Assistant to the Secretary of State 94-96. During Brill's tenure at the UN, he was reluctant to pressure the UN to impose sanctions on Iran believing that Iran had the right to develope nuclear resources for the purpose of power.

It has also been reported that the NIE was based on the statements of ONE person, a defector from Iran. ONE PERSON. Sound familiar?

Let us not forget that Fingar, another author of the NIE (who has no experience in ME studies), as recently as July, testified before Congress that both North Korea and IRAN both posed grave threats to the U.S.

Add to the NIE, and the leaked CIA tape story, along with Mrs. Plame-Wilson's announcement that Waxman is going to reopen her claim that the administration "outed" her, and what you have is a party that is rapidly becoming desparate. With the obvious sucess of the surge in Iraq, and the Democratic Party having built their whole platform on the U.S. losing the war there, the closer we get to November, '08 you can look for the Dems to reach a fever pitch trying to discredit the administration.

The CIA and State are both agencies that have career bureaucrats that have been left over from the Carter and Clinton administrations. They have not been happy that Bush has come along and expected them to actually do their jobs. The attitude is "presidents come and go, but we here at CIA and State will remain) and they buck anyone who challanges that thinking.

Rats love to play in the dark. It has now become our responsibilty to turn the lights on them.
I long for the day when a President has enough guts to sweep through his own Executive Branch and fire once and for all the "career" enemies of the United States. The Executive Branch is supposed to serve the Presidency, not sabotage it. The American people elect the President, fully understanding his powers--and expecting the President they elect to exercise those powers. And at the very least, a President ought to be able to take steps (drastic, if necessary) to ensure that his own bureaucracy is serving him and the people who elected him. This does not just apply to US Attorneys, it should apply to any Executive Branch employee.

The State Department in particular is in need of a complete overhaul. It has completely corrupted Condi Rice, as it has all of her predecessors. It is time for a house cleaning.

  2. The dirty tricks may let up a little--but look for something big to pop next October, within 3 weeks of the election. This is the Democrats' favorite time for ugliness.

The real problems are at CIA and State. Our entire bureaucracy for dealing with foreign policy--with the exception of the military--is in hopeless denial and has proved itself to be obsolete for dealing with today's world, not to mention extra-Constitutional.

And what do you think of the very popular view by a leading Israeli analyst Obadiah Shoher? He argues (here, for example, www. samsonblinded.org/blog/america-arranges-a-peace-deal-with-iran.htm ) that the Bush Administration made a deal with Iran: nuclear program in exchange for curtailing the Iranian support for Iraqi terrorists. His story seems plausible, isn't it?

  5. Sort of like Bush paying off Korea not to build its own Nukes. Works every time.

You know why Putin's power is increasing, in some cases at our expense? Because Putin gets it that you don't win in a hostile world by being "the nice guy". And we don't.

And he also gets it that oil is actually a resource that can make his country richer, and less dependent on foreign oil--instead of an "environmental threat" that the Left in the US wants to keep in the freaking ground.

It's like that scene in Blazing Saddles where Cleavon Little threatens to shoot himself. The tag line is: "Hold it, men. He's not bluffing...." That's the American Left.
