Bhutto Assasinated; Ron Paul, Barack Obama Blame America, Huckabee Apologizes

The assassination of Benazir Bhutto is likely to have far-reaching repercussions which cannot even be imagined right now. But the seeming rush of two Republican candidates (and Barack Obama) to try and hang the blame for the assassination of Bhutto on US policy is not merely a lie born of cheap opportunism; it is a lie that is damaging to our country's interests and reputation across the world:
  • Ron Paul's take is, quite frankly, a disgrace
  • Mike Huckabee APOLOGIZES??? (and also refers to martial law there which was lifted weeks ago)
  • Barack Obama's campaign manages to blame Hillary AND Bush (they would have been better off saying nothing...)
Do you not think that these irresponsible statements are bouncing around every Islamist website on the planet? And this is Presidential???

All three of these items--coming after such a momentous and monumental tragedy--are illustrations of why we so desparately need the leadership of serious, sober people for these serious, sobering times. And it is well past high time that certain misguided Americans wake the hell up and drop their love affair with the sleazy and clueless Huckabee and/or the vapid Mr. Paul, and to get behind a Republican with experience, a sober understanding of world events, and the strength and will to pro-actively protect this country from the very Islamists who killed Ms. Bhutto today.

If you want to help make that result happen, here's how.

  1. A bit disengenuous. Huckabee's campain clarified the remark and made it clear he was not apologizing.

  2. VofR - how about a link? How did his staff turn the word "apologizes" into non-apology?

Or have half-dozen blogs and news outlets got it misquoted? Did he not say, “our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.”

Well? Did he - or didn't he?

  3. though she made mistakes in the 80's she matured into a fine woman. She would have likely pursued the islamo-facist whom she held responsible in her fathers murder. Ms. Bhutto hated radical Islam, she was educated in America, and very attractive.....it was all too much for the Radical Islamo-faciast. May G-d rest her soul...

  4. Well, you obviously haven't heard that Benazir Bhutto herself recently laid blame for interventionist U.S. foreign policy for Pakistan's terrorist problems.

Here are the last two paragraphs of an interview which will be published in Parade magazine on January 6:

Despite the corrosion of her reputation by corruption and compromise, Bhutto appears to be America’s strongest anchor in the effort to turn back the extremist Islamic tide threatening to engulf Pakistan. What would you like to tell President Bush? I ask this riddle of a woman.

She would tell him, she replies, that propping up Musharraf’s government, which is infested with radical Islamists, is only hastening disaster. “I would say, ‘Your policy of supporting dictatorship is breaking up my country.’ I now think al-Qaeda can be marching on Islamabad in two to four years.”

The interview can be found here:

Now, one would rightly assume that Benazir Bhutto would obviously be knowledgeable about the situation in Pakistan. So, when she makes a statement like that, does it make her right or wrong? If it makes her right, how then does it make Ron Paul wrong?

It just demonstrates to me that Ron Paul has a deeper understanding of foreign policy than most.

  5. Well, the quotes are quotes. Huckabee may have mispoke, but the term "Freudian Slip" comes to mind.

Did he err because that's what he really thinks? I'm sure he didn't mean to say it... but that doesn't mean he didn't mean it.
