The presidential campaign adviser to Vice Premier Shimon Peres this weekend told his client not to enter the race.And by now, at his age, a run for presidency would be much too comedic for him.
Senior adviser Eyal Arad that Peres that he was unlikely to get the necessary votes in a secret ballot, Haaretz reported, and that a defeat would be disgrace his public and international image. Peres is already branded as a loser among the Israeli public, having lost an unprecedented seven elections for top offices. A further obstacle to a Peres win in the current presidential election would be the candidacy of MK Collette Avital, endorsed by the Labor Party, who would siphon off votes in the first round.
