FREE MARKET IMMIGRATION?

The other day, we had a debate here at TAB during which M. Simon was stating his position, if I am not mistaken, that the massive illegal immigration of Mexicans into the United States has occurred as a natural consequence of the free market system.

I am naturally amenable to such an argument, because I am a big believer in free market capitalism.

However, I don't think the argument holds water in this case.

Why?

Because, we are a nation of laws before we are a nation of businesses. The people make the government, and the government makes and enforces the laws. The free market system does not make law.

There is no such thing as laissez faire legislation. Law requires wisdom and discernment, and is judgemental by nature. It is the opposite of laissez faire. Presumably, law is moral. Business is not moral.

The constitution says, "We the people," not "We the markets."
