IRAN CORNERED: PUTIN FALLS IN PLACE

NYTIMES:
Russia has informed Iran that it will withhold nuclear fuel for Iran’s nearly completed Bushehr power plant unless Iran suspends its uranium enrichment as demanded by the United Nations Security Council, European, American and Iranian officials said.

The ultimatum was delivered in Moscow last week by Igor Ivanov, Russia’s Security Council Secretary, to Ali Hosseini Tash, Iran’s deputy chief nuclear negotiator, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because a confidential diplomatic exchange between two governments was involved.

For years, President Bush has been pressing President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia to cut off help to Iran on the nuclear reactor, which is Tehran’s first serious effort to produce nuclear energy and has been highly profitable for Russia. But Mr. Putin has resisted.

Recently, however, Moscow and Tehran have been engaged in a public argument about whether Iran has paid its bills, in a dispute that may explain Russia’s apparent shift. The ultimatum may also reflect Moscow’s increasing displeasure and frustration with Iran over its refusal to stop enriching uranium at its vast facility at Natanz.

“We’re not sure what mix of commercial and political motives are at play here,” one senior Bush administration official said in Washington. “But clearly the Russians and the Iranians are getting on each other’s nerves — and that’s not all bad.”

“We consider this a very important decision by the Russians,” a senior European official said. “It shows that our disagreements with the Russians about the dangers of Iran’s nuclear program are tactical. Fundamentally, the Russians don’t want a nuclear Iran.”
I AM SURPRISED, PLEASED - IF NOT RELIEVED! THIS IS ADDITIONAL LEVERAGE WE NEEDED.

IT PROVES - ONCE AGAIN - THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IS NOT A ONE-NOTE/MILITARISTIC/UNILATERALIST GANG UNABLE OR WILLING TO FULLY USE DIPLOMACY.

LEFTIES WHO PERSIST IN ACCUSING BUSH OF UNILATERALISM OR RUSHING TO WAR ARE IRRATIONAL AND IN DENIAL OF REALITY. IF ANYTHING, THEN BUSH HAS BEEN TOO MULTILATERALIST AND TOO PATIENT WITH IRAN AND NORTH KOREA.

  1. How astute of you to find "proof" where there is none.

"IT PROVES - ONCE AGAIN - THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IS NOT A ONE-NOTE/MILITARISTIC/UNILATERALIST GANG UNABLE OR WILLING TO FULLY USE DIPLOMACY."

Really? It does? Go back and read the article again...there's no proof that anything Bush did resulted in Putin's actions. In fact, it could be said that it's great to see Russia cooperating on Iran IN SPITE of Bush's foreign policy.

Do us all a favor: LAY OFF THE CAPS, and stop pretending that there is PROOF of something when there really isn't.

this PORVOES - CAPS! - that those who accuse the Bush Adm. of being unilateralists or militaarists are effin wrong and effin insane.

  4. Politek,

There's no use in trying to persuade "reliapundit" of anything...he's a small-minded tribalist who can't even spell properly, much less analzye geo-political events. He claims to be a fifty-something artist living in Manhattan; I believe he's actually a seventeen year-old drop out, living in his parents' basement.
This is what happens when Dad leaves his copy of National Review laying around when junior is all alone.

But perhaps I'm being too harsh; watch his response to this and judge for yourself.

  5. i was also a former leftie: marched w/dr mlk jr, the first arth day, and against the vietnam war.

which proves everyone can have their eyes opened.

    i mean OPENED!

even idiotarian lefties like you announcer guy, and politek

  6. RP,

So, you're 51...and you claim you marched with MLK? That would have made you, what, ten at the time? First "arth"(sic) day...that would have been 1970...so you were 14?
I'm assuming the "card carrying commies" (your words) who raised you dragged you to these events?

You state this to show how "everyone can have their eyes opened."

Opened to what? MLK and appreciation of the environment are bad things?

You remind me of the first half of the Thomas Wolfe quote: "a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged..."

Perhaps you should research the second half: "...a liberal is a conservative who's been arrested."

I can't speak for PoliTek, but I don't consider myself a "leftie." I'm an empiricist. Show me proof of your argument before you ask me to believe it. The logical fallacies you've posted on this ironically-named site don't pass the smell test. As it stands, you sound like an apologist for the corrupt and incompetent. That's not a campsite I want to visit.

  7. EYERS OPENED TO THE PITFALLS OF THE LEFT AND LEFTISM, ASSHOLE.

WE POST ON IT HERE EVERY DAY - USUALLY A DOZEN POSTS A DAY.

I POSTED PROOF - TWICE; THEREFORE U R NO EMPIRICIST.

IRAN & NOKO R 2 CRISIS POINTS BUSH HAS ATTACKED WITH MULTILATERAL DIP0LOMACY. THAT'S FACT. IF YOU DON'T ACCEPT/ADMIT THAT U R AN ASS.

I FIND IT AMUSING THAT U SPEND MORE TIME ATTACKING ME MY AGE AT VARIOUS EVENTS I ATTENDED THAN U DO ON THE FACTS.

    BUT FACTS ARE STUBBORN THINGS.

    AS I AM, TOO.

I HAVE PREVIOUSLY POSTED HERE AT TAB HOW THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT WAS THE ONLY THING THE LEFT GOT RIGHT. THEY HAVE SINCE TWISTED THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT INTO A REVERSE RACISM. ONE WHICH WOULD HAVE TURNED OFF DR MLK JR.

HE DIDN'T WANT HIS KIDS TO GET JOBS OR COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE BASED ON THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN; AFFIRMATIVE ACTION DOES JUST THAT.

THE LEFT WAS WRONG ON VIETNAM, ECOLOGY, SDI, NMD, THE USSR, NAFTA, THE REAGAN TAX CUT, THE BUSH TAX CUT, WELFARE REFORM, OSLO, U NAME IT.

    BYE-BYE.

  8. RP,

"I POSTED PROOF - TWICE; THEREFORE U R NO EMPIRICIST."

R U 14, or R U Prince? Try using actual WORDS, unless you're texting your buddies down at juvenile hall.

"FACTS ARE STUBBORN THINGS." They are indeed, and if you presented any, I'd address them. However, your original quote from the New York Times does nothing to further your argument. The only comment from an administration official was
"We’re not sure what mix of commercial and political motives are at play here,” one senior Bush administration official said..."

Of course they're not sure. Because they're not involved in the dynamic...they are outsiders looking in, just like you.

Then you conclude, however illogically, that this "PROVES - ONCE AGAIN - THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IS NOT A ONE-NOTE/MILITARISTIC/UNILATERALIST GANG UNABLE OR WILLING TO FULLY USE DIPLOMACY."

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

And as PoliTek asked, lay off the caps. THAT'S THE WRITTEN VERSION OF SHOUTING, BUT PERHAPS YOU WERE UNAWARE? Then again, that's what many of you on the right do. You try to shout down opposing voices, instead of using reason to promote your argument.

Pathetic. And proof that you can be 51 and still be a punk.

  9. if u think that bush adm is not involved in dynamic u r n even bigger asshole than i had estimated!

they usa and russia and every other member state of the unsc and iaea have been totally involved in this thing.

u r truly one of the most ignorant assholes i have ever encountered.

    deep in denial.

the iran nuke issue has been totally multilateral and totally diplomatic.

    this is a fact.

the usa has been deeply involved.

    this is a fact.

just because some lower level diplomat can;t read russia's/putin's mind and can;'t explain why they did a 180 NOW, doesn't mean that the usa has been out of the loop.

suggesting that - as you do is utterly asinine.

i mean it is lower than stupid.

you are the most idiotic asinine leftie in denial i have ever encountered.

    you need help.

you need to be detox'd from bds, and deprogrammed from leftwingidiotiarianism.

  11. MORE FUCKING PROOF BUSH HAS BEEN MULTILATERAL VISAVIS IRAN AND RUSSIA -

    NICHOLAS BURNS:

"During the past week, I have had three discussions with my P5+1 counterparts from Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany about a second and strengthened Chapter VII Security Council Resolution. In fact, formal deliberations are now beginning at the Security Council. We are pleased by the serious and very constructive talks we have had with our P5+1 partners. Iran must know that we are united in our aim to deny it a nuclear weapon."

Just thought I’d check back here one last time to enjoy your responses, Reliapundit. You are indeed reliable; reliably wrong and reliably adolescent. Coming from you, I consider that bile high praise.

You also seem quite anal-compulsive, with your constant references to “Assholes.” I just hope you don’t own a gerbil. For the gerbil’s sake.

For the record, no one here claimed the Bush administration is not involved in on-going negotiations; the contention was that your quid pro
quo was invalid. You have still not shown any causality in your argument. Putin’s decision may or may not have been influenced by the multilateral discussions taking place. For you to claim this as proof that the Bush administration in not instinctively unilateral ignores the larger reality of their behavior over most of the past six years. Look up what was done in regards to North Korea in 2001, and Iran in ’03.
Dick Cheney made a point to dismiss negotiations with both of these states, at a time when diplomacy may have helped prevent North Korea from becoming a member of the nuclear club, and kept Iran from announcing it’s intentions to perhaps follow suit. For team Bush, diplomacy is always a last resort.

“just because some lower level diplomat can;t read russia's/putin's mind and can;'t explain why they did a 180 NOW, doesn't mean that the usa has been out of the loop”(multiple sics).

The Times article refers to a “senior administration official.” That does NOT equate to a “lower level diplomat.” If you can’t distinguish between the two, maybe you should reconsider this hobby of yours.

As you said, facts are stubborn things. And nothing you’ve presented here proves your original conclusion. But your blustering, bullying responses show that when questioned, all you can really respond with is a slew of insults and name-calling.

I gave you a chance a couple of months ago to say these things face to face, but you punked out. If you don’t have the courage to insult and demean someone in person the way you do on this blog, perhaps you should try a little diplomacy yourself. Your other options are limited.

And thanks for giving lower case a chance.

  13. i stand by every word i wrote:

bush has been multilateral visivis iran. this was the gist of the post. you took issue with it. you are wrong. we have been working very closely with the russinas. the quote i offerd above proves this.

ALSO: the administration is large. a senior admninistration person could be just about anyone. in any department. note: it does not say wh.they might be out of the loop. or not. doesn;t matter. it's irrelevant. FACT: bush has been multilateral visavis iran. those who argue he is a unilateralist are wrong. those who persit in view of the iran case are assholes.

you resorted to insults first. i merely responded in kind - to the tenth power. don't like it? fuckoff, then.

now you want a martial confrontation with me in person.

proving you are a total fucking asshole.

    now please: fuskoff scumbag.
