Global warming appears to have stalled. Climatologists are puzzled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years. Some attribute the trend to a lack of sunspots, while others explain it through ocean currents.
At least the weather in Copenhagen is likely to be cooperating. The Danish Meteorological Institute predicts that temperatures in December, when the city will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference, will be one degree above the long-term average.
Otherwise, however, not much is happening with global warming at the moment. The Earth's average temperatures have stopped climbing since the beginning of the millennium, and it even looks as though global warming could come to a standstill this year.
Ironically, climate change appears to have stalled in the run-up to the upcoming world summit in the Danish capital, where thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, scientists, business leaders and environmental activists plan to negotiate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Billions of euros are at stake in the negotiations.
Can any outside pressure be applied? How do we know she is all right? How do we know she is not being psychologically pressured?My recommendation is to turn to Congress on the matter, both the Ohio-based legislature and Capitol Hill, and even to Sarah Palin's staff, and ask them if they'll be willing to comment on this. WASHINGTON — Most Americans want Congress to deal with malpractice lawsuits driving up the cost of medical care, says an Associated Press poll.
Yet Democrats are reluctant to press forward on an issue that would upset a valuable political constituency — trial lawyers — even if President Barack Obama says he’s open to changes.
The AP poll found that 54 percent of Americans favor making it harder to sue doctors and hospitals for mistakes taking care of patients, while 32 percent are opposed. The rest are undecided or don’t know.

Outside a backstreet clinic in Beijing
In a village on the outskirts of Beijing, a red cross and the word "clinic" have been hand painted on a sign hanging outside a backstreet shop.
Inside there is a table and desk, a bed with a dirty pink sheet on it, and a set of shelves covered with boxes and bottles of medicine.
People go there to seek medical advice, admits the man in charge, although he refuses to show the BBC the clinic's permission to practise.
Dressed in a black jacket and jeans, he does not look like a doctor and turns away when asked about his own medical training.
Beijing city government admits that the Chinese capital has a problem with illegal medical centres - known as black clinics.
It closed down more than 3,300 of these unregulated and sometimes dangerous clinics last year alone.
'Not safe'
They are set up to serve the capital's poorest people, many of them migrant workers who have come to Beijing to find a job.
Most are on the outskirts of the city, often near large construction sites that can employ hundreds of migrant workers.
They offer a cheaper alternative to the city's government-backed clinics and hospitals.

But not everyone has the insurance and even those who do still have to pay something towards their medical bills - a burden some find too great.
One person who struggles to pay is Jinzhan resident Yao Ya, who moved to Beijing from the nearby province of Hebei with her five-year-old child.
She admits that she sometimes visits black clinics. "If my child got a cold or a fever I'd have to take him to a proper place, but if it was me who was ill I wouldn't bother," she said.
Beijing's city government has launched a campaign to close down the capital's illegal clinics, but it says that is not an easy task.
"As illegal medical practices are mainly concentrated in the hidden integration of urban and rural districts and rural areas, they are difficult to combat," said a statement from the local health authority.
Officials hope to persuade poorer people that they could be endangering their health by visiting black clinics.
But while people remain poor, black clinics will remain tempting.

Da Silva and Kirchner said that Jose Manuel Zelaya, the Honduran president ousted in the June political-military coup, should be restituted to his function so that constitutional order and democracy is reestablished in the country.
"We demand the immediate restitution of president Manuel Zelaya. On the contrary, the elections to be held on Nov. 29 will not be recognized and a very dangerous precedent will be set," said Lula in his speech.
The Brazilian president added that this is the common position of all Latin American and Caribbean countries.
A Gaza charity headed by the interior minister of Hamas yesterday offered $1.4 million to any Arab citizen of Israel who abducts an Israeli soldier. Palestinians have frequently called on Israeli Arabs to abduct soldiers, but this is the first time money has been offered.
The Waad group from Gaza offered the bounty in an e-mail sent to Palestinian media. The organization, which supports Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, is headed by Hamas' Interior Minister Fathi Hamad. The minister did not return messages seeking comment.
Waad's director, Usama Kahlout, said the bounty was issued in response to an Israeli group's offer to pay Gazans for information on the whereabouts of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier captured over three years ago by Hamas-allied militants.
