Then the doctor told me what had happened. He had suffered rupture of the rectum and the doctor feared colonic bleeding. He suggested we take him to the hospital immediately.

You don’t hear much about the good stuff in the press anymore, though, do you? Some say things changed for me on August 29th last year — the day that John McCain tapped me to be his running mate. And it was an honor to stand beside a true American hero. I say others changed, and let me to speak to that for a minute.

Political operatives descended on Alaska last August, digging for dirt. The ethics law that I championed became their weapon of choice over the past nine months. I’ve been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations, such as holding a fish in a photograph or wearing a jacket with a logo on it and answering reporters’ questions. Every one of these, though, all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We have won, but it hasn’t been cheap. The state has wasted thousands of hours of your time and shelled out some two million of your dollars to respond to opposition research and that’s money that’s not going to fund teachers, or troopers or safer roads.

And this political absurdity, the politics of personal destruction, Todd and I, we’re looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills just in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn’t cost them a dime. So they’re not going to stop draining the public resources, spending other people’s money in this game. They won’t stop.

It’s pretty insane. My staff and I spend most of our day — we’re dealing with this stuff instead of progressing our state now.

And I know that I promised no more politics as usual but this isn’t what anyone had in mind for Alaska.

If I’ve learned one thing it’s that life is about choices and one chooses how to react to circumstances. You can choose to engage in things that tear down or that build up and I choose to work very hard on a path for fruitfulness and productivity. I choose not to tear down and waste precious time but to build up this state and our great country and her industrious and generous and patriotic and free people.

Life is too short to compromise time and resources and though it may be tempting and more comfortable to just kind of keep your head down and plod along and appease those who are demanding, hey, just sit down and shut up. But that’s a worthless, easy path out. That’s a quitter’s way out. And I think a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just kind of hunker down and go with the flow. We’re fishermen and we know that only dead fish go with the flow.

No productive fulfilled people determined where to put their efforts choosing to wisely use precious time to build up — and there is such a need to build up — and fight for our state and our country and I choose to fight for it. And I’ll work very hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government and strong national security for our country and support for our troops and energy independence and for those who will protect freedom and equality and life.

I’ll work hard for and I’ll campaign for those who are proud to be American and who are inspired by our ideals and they won’t deride them. I will support others who seek to serve in or out of office, and I don’t care what party they’re in or no party at all, inside Alaska or outside of Alaska.

But I won’t do it from the governor’s desk. I’ve never believed that I nor anyone else needs a title to do this, to make a difference, to help people. So I choose for my state and for my family more freedom to progress all the way around.

I take her resignation at face value: she accomplished a lot as governor and will be able accomplish more - for more people, and without all the BS - as an independent activist.

SHE'S RIGHT: She can accomplish all this without the office and without running for another office for MANY years: she does NOT have to run for the Senate and she doesn't have to run for the White House, either.

• I think she is right: she can speak out. and make money, and spend quality time with her family by resigning.

• I think she will continue to talk the talk AND walk the walk, whether the issue is taxes or spending or guns or abortion or national defense.

• And I think she will continue to speak on behalf of a HUGE segment of America.

This is a large segment - one which feels good solid basic principles and American values are the most important thing a public leader can have.

ON THIS LEVEL, SHE HAS WHAT IT TAKES - IN SPADES!

Though some might judge me a conspiracy nut for even posting this piece, I care little about what others think when I know something is right and just. After all, a majority of Americans voted for Barack Obama, proving anything is possible.

Anyway, someone visited Bob McCarty Writes today and, while here, posted a link in a comment below an NRA-related post. Normally, I delete comments like that one that consist entirely of a link directing people away from my blog and to another site. Today, however, I checked out the linked-to site and decided to share a portion of what it offers on this Independence Day Eve.

An Arab woman near Jericho tried to get herself killed deliberately because she was being abused by the Religion of Peace:

A Palestinian woman carrying a suspicious object was moderately wounded by IDF fire on Friday morning near the Bekaot checkpoint in the Jordan Valley, north of Jericho.

The soldiers shot at the woman's lower body after shooting in the air and after she did not heed their calls to stop advancing towards them, the military said.

After the woman was shot, the soldiers discovered she was carrying a toy gun. She was evacuated to Haemek Hospital in Afula in moderate condition.

An officer of the Civil Administration who interrogated the wounded woman asked her why she acted in the way she did. She showed him bruise marks on her hands and said she wanted to kill herself after having been abused in her house. The woman is an 18-year-old, married with a child.

The IDF said troops at the checkpoint acted according to protocol.

Three years ago, a gunman shot and killed an IDF soldier at the same checkpoint. IDF soldier St.-Sgt. Ro'i Farjun was killed at there in August 2006, after a Palestinian opened fire at him. Troops returned fire, killing the gunman.

Okay, now did she risk this because she didn't think she could get her child to safety, if she were to try and seek out a women's shelter? I'm not sure, but I can say that suicide in her case would be foolish. What needs to be done is arrange for women's shelter experts to be ready to take in victims like these if they ask for it. They will, of course, have to make it clear that the abuse victims will have to quit Islam if they're really to make things better for themselves.

... Sometimes, the whole world prefers a lie to the truth. The White House, the United Nations, the Organization of American States, and much of the media have condemned the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya this past weekend as a coup d'état.

That is nonsense.

In fact, what happened here is nothing short of the triumph of the rule of law.

Soldiers arrested and sent out of the country a Honduran citizen who, the day before, through his own actions had stripped himself of the presidency.

• On June 26, President Zelaya issued a decree ordering all government employees to take part in the "Public Opinion Poll to convene a National Constitutional Assembly."
• In doing so, Zelaya triggered a constitutional provision that automatically removed him from office.
• Constitutional assemblies are convened to write new constitutions.
• When Zelaya published that decree to initiate an "opinion poll" about the possibility of convening a national assembly, he contravened the unchangeable articles of the Constitution that deal with the prohibition of reelecting a president and of extending his term.
• His actions showed intent.

Our Constitution takes such intent seriously.

According to Article 239:

"No citizen who has already served as head of the Executive Branch can be President or Vice-President. Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform [emphasis added], as well as those that support such violation directly or indirectly, will immediately cease in their functions and will be unable to hold any public office for a period of 10 years."

Notice that the article speaks about intent and that it also says "immediately" – as in "instant," as in "no trial required," as in "no impeachment needed."

The Honduran military acted entirely within the bounds of the Constitution. The military gained nothing but the respect of the nation by its actions.

I am extremely proud of my compatriots. Finally, we have decided to stand up and become a country of laws, not men. From now on, here in Honduras, no one will be above the law.

JPOST: In possible signal to Iran, Israel sends subs through Suez Canal

After a long hiatus, the Israeli Navy has returned to sailing through the Suez Canal, recently sending one of its advanced Dolphin-class submarines through the waterway to participate in naval maneuvers off the Eilat coast in the Red Sea.

IDF sources said the decision to allow navy vessels to sail through the canal was made recently and was a definite "change of policy" within the service. In 2005, then OC Navy Adm. David Ben-Bashat decided to stop sending Israeli ships through the canal due to growing threats in the area.

However, the Dolphin-class submarine sailed through last month to get from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. Israeli officials said it passed through the canal above water, and that it was not done covertly.

"It is a question of policy," a senior officer explained. "Navy vessels have sailed through the canal on several occasions recently."

The significance of the move was debatable, but it could be interpreted as a message to Iran and a demonstration of strengthening ties between Egypt and Israel.

In the event of a conflict with Iran, and if Israel decided to involve its three Dolphin-class submarines - which according to foreign reports can fire nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and serve as a second-strike platform - the quickest route would be to send them through the Suez Canal.

The only way to get to the Gulf of Oman without refueling would be to go through the canal.

Moscow, July 2 (RIA Novosti) Russia is opposed to sanctions against Iran over the recent crackdown on protest rallies following the disputed presidential election, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

Chevron Lawsuit Subject of Two Posts at BMW

I offer two posts today that are related to the ongoing litigation that pits Chevron Corporation against the Amazon Defense Coalition in an Ecuadoran Court.

In the first post, I offer my thanks to Google, explaining that the well-known search engine helped me pinpoint the reason which New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo might be so interested in helping the Amazon Defense Coalition in its lawsuit against Chevron Corporation.

NANNYSTATE NIGHTMARE: FORCED ADOPTIONS IN CHINA

On socialist China, forced adoptions replace forced abortions:

Dozens of baby girls in southern China have reportedly been taken from parents who broke family-planning laws, and then sold for adoption overseas.

An investigation by the state-owned Southern Metropolis News found that about 80 girls in one county had been sold for $3,000 (£1,800) to foreigners.

The babies were taken when the parents could not pay the steep fines imposed for having too many children.

Local officials may have forged papers to complete the deals, the report said.

Unpopular policy

Parents in rural areas are allowed two children, unlike urban dwellers who are allowed one.
