BAD RELIGION VS. DECENT SECULARISM

The New Zealand Herald's written about how the whole row in Turkey began, including:

The previous night, the receptionist at his hotel explained what the protesters wanted. The Government had pushed through plans to demolish the area, making way for a gaudy Ottoman-era themed barracks and a shopping mall.

Boy, if it's a nod to the Ottoman regime they're thinking of, then it's something the country could do without.

"The protesters seemed young," says Coffey. "They want Turkey to continue being secular and feel that the Government is leading them back into the Islamic world."

For the past 10 days, secular protesters and the Islamist-dominated government have been eye-balling each other, part of a tense stand-off over Turkey's future.

Turkey is a country caught between worlds. Stand on one side of the Bosphorus Strait - the glistening waters that cut Istanbul in half, linking the Aegean and Black Seas -and you're in Europe. Cross to the other, you're in Asia.

Following the fall of the Ottoman Empire at World War 1's close, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk - who led the defence against Allied forces at Gallipoli - established the Turkish republic and set about implementing dramatic reforms, fiercely prescribing a secular identity while insisting on a homogeneous "Turkish" ethnicity. It amounted to social engineering.

Turkey's famed secular state has been welcomed by Western politicians, who have long seen it as a bulwark against the creep of Islamist regimes on the doorstep of Europe. Turkey, too, welcomed the West.

Unfortunately, it's not entirely what it could be if Islam was still lurking in the background, and if the country's government refused to recognize the Armenian Holocaust (Medz Yeghern).

The country's military staunchly defended the secular wave for decades, staging a post-modern coup in 1997 and forcing the resignation of Turkey's first Islamist Prime Minister, Necmettin Erbakan. Yet Islamic forces, severely repressed, pushed back. Now, through Erdogan and the Justice and Development Party (AKP), they've been in power since 2002. A secular-Islamic rift splits the country.

Over the next two years, tens of thousands of New Zealanders hope to travel to Istanbul and Gallipoli to mark the centenary of World War I. Will the Turkey they encounter be as friendly as they expect?

We can only hope this current revolt helps keep it that way in the end, but if the army's been infiltrated by the Islamofascists, that could decrease the optimism.

Upon the announcement from Vladimir Putin that he will divorce his wife of nearly 30 years, Lyudmila, speculation abounds that the Russian president is dating gymnast Alina Kabayeva. 

“My position and my work mean a life completely open to the public,” Putin, 60, said, according to Russian outlet RIA. "Some people are fine with that, some people are incompatible with that lifestyle. [Lyudmila and I] practically never saw each other. We have our own lives.” 

Lyudmila added that “this is a civilized divorce,” but British tabloid The Sun reported that Putin may be “about to hook up with a woman rumored to be his long-term mistress.” The woman in question is 30-year-old former gymnast Kabayeva. 

Kabayeva, who is 30 years Putin’s junior, won a gold medal for rhythmic gymnastics in the 2004 Olympics in Athens and a bronze during the Sydney Olympics in 2000. She was the subject of a state television documentary in late May. which showed her in a favorable light, according to Reuters. 

The affair rumors arose from a newspaper owned by Putin’s rival, Alexander Lebedev. However, Kabayeva, who is now a lawmaker as a parliamentary deputy for the Kremlin-backed United Russia party, was spotted kissing Putin in a Moscow restaurant as early as 2008, The Sun noted. 

Some have said the pair even have children together. But the brunette beauty recently denied those rumors: On Russia’s Channel One network last month on her 30th birthday, Kabayeva denied having children, though she never mentioned Putin’s name. 

“The whole country -- and perhaps now other countries, too -- write that I’ve got two or three children,” she said. “Sadly, I don’t have children yet. But, of course, I want to be a mother. Still, I’m not yet."

Marine Gen. John Kelly - the commanding general of United States Southern Command - Delivering his 2013 D-Day Anniversary Speech dedicating the Operation Enduring Freedom Memorial at the Camp San Mateo Memorial Garden

In a thick Boston accent, Kelly touched on the inherent multiculturalism in the Marine Corps, as well as the very nature of military service, best characterized by the word "sacrifice." Then he eulogized all the lost Marine infantrymen of the 5th Marine Regiment ( — next to the dirty 1st — ) the most decorated and experienced regiment in the Marine Corps. 

Kelly himself lost a son to combat in Afghanistan, and he related directly with the families of those who fell in America's most recent wars. He said to the Marines and families:

Meet Professor Henry Graff, perhaps the most legendary and honored professor ever at Columbia University. He was THE American History and Diplomatic History professor at Columbia for 46 years. And he is more emphatic than yours truly that there are no Obama footprints at Columbia. 

I was put on Professor Graff’s trail by another Columbia classmate, skeptical about Obama’s story. He told me that Professor Graff had been the speaker for the Class of ’53 last weekend at Columbia. My friend was watching Graff answer questions from the crowd when he was asked about Obama at Columbia. Graff said, “I have my doubts he ever went here.”

I did some digging and located Graff’s home phone number. 

I called him yesterday. Now retired, he was delighted to hear from me. He agreed to go on the record about Obama. 

Unlike Obama, Professor Graff clearly remembered me. He was thrilled to hear from his former student. I was in several of Graff’s classes and he remembered me like it was yesterday. He sounded great- like he hasn’t lost any of his trademark sharpness in 30 years since we last met. 

I was honored to learn that this legendary historian has been following my political career for many years. But he had no such cheery things to say about the President. Graff said, “I taught at Columbia for 46 years. I taught every significant American politician that ever studied at Columbia. I know them all. I’m proud of them all. Between American History and Diplomatic History, one way or another, they all had to come through my classes. Not Obama. I never had a student with that name in any of my classes. I never met him, never saw him, never heard of him.” 

Even more importantly, Professor Graff knew the other history and political science professors. “None of the other Columbia professors knew him either” said Graff.

SHARP RISE IN KIDNAPPING ATTEMPTS BY JIHADISTS

The IDF has reported that there's been an increase of attempts by jihadists to kidnap soldiers:

There has been a significant increase in attempts to abduct soldiers in recent months, a source in the Israel Defense Forces said on Thursday.

This has prompted the army to strictly enforce safety measures and remind soldiers of directives intended to prevent such incidents, he said.

Since the beginning of the year, the IDF has counted 27 attempted or planned abductions of soldiers, mainly by terrorist cells, the source said. This is the same number as for the whole of 2012.

On Tuesday, two female soldiers reported an attempted abduction on their way to their base near Hadera. They said several men tried to push them into a car, but they resisted and the car drove away. Police said it wasn’t clear whether the perpetrators were terrorists.

On New Year’s Eve, the IDF captured a group of Islamic Jihad operatives near the Eyal checkpoint. The men carried items apparently intended to help in an abduction, and the army said this incident posed a “very high threat.”

Most of the other incidents involved detainees who admitted under interrogation by the Shin Bet security service that they were planning to abduct a soldier. “These organizations realize that to free their people from prison, they need to capture a soldier,” a senior officer explained Thursday. “Most of the incidents were carried out by operatives affiliated with Hamas, but [the desire to kidnap] is common to all the organizations. As long as they have desire and motivation ... this requires us to maintain a higher alert level.”

Whoever thought to hold this year's Miss World pageant in Indonesia should be ashamed of themselves, as it only gives recognition to a country upholding Islamofascism. The UK Sun (via Jihad Watch) reports that:

BIKINIS have been banned from this year's Miss World contest - to ward off Islamic hardliners in Indonesia who threatened Lady Gaga.

The pageant is taking place in the Far East country for the first time and organisers are wary of upsetting Muslim fanatics.

In a bid to calm any tensions, the 137 women will ditch the traditional swimsuit round and instead wear more conservative outfits like sarongs.

The move comes after pop icon Lady Gaga was last year forced to scrap a gig in the world's most populous Muslim country.

The Born This Way singer had sold out a 52,000-seat stadium in Jakarta, but cops ordered her to pull out because of threats.

Fundamentalists accused her of "satanic teaching" and called her "vulgar".

They even threatened to stop the megastar from setting foot on Indonesian soil.

Habib Salim Alatas, of the Islamic Defenders Front, said: “She had better not dare spread her satanic faith here. Her style is vulgar, her sexual and indecent clothes will destroy our children’s sense of morality.

“She wears only panties and a bra when she sings and she stated she is the envoy of the devil’s child.”

Beyonce and the Pussycat Dolls were also both reportedly urged to "cover up" during her gig in Indonesia.

Much of this year's Miss World will take place on the idyllic island of Bali where thousands of holidaymakers are allowed to wear bikinis.

But the pageant's chairwoman Julia Morley said: "I do not want to upset or get anyone in a situation where we are being disrespectful.

"We treasure respect for all the countries that take part in the pageant," she said.

Very funny. What about the host countries; don't they also have a responsibility to show respect? The pageant should not be recognizing countries with totalitarian mindsets, and what they're doing now only politicizes it.

There've been protests against Tayyip Erdogan's autocratic government in Turkey in the past several days, and a writer for USA Today notes how the Turkish government's response basically follows the patterns set by many other Islamofascists:

The Turkish prime minister's dismissal of anti-government protests as the work of opposition thugs fits a pattern of how many Islamist political leaders are responding to legitimate criticism of their regimes.

Islamist leaders in Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey have shown an arrogance toward opposition views, breeding frustration that exacerbates civil unrest and instability and is likely to spread as democratic reforms continue to sweep the region, analysts say.

"The similarity is quite striking, (but) not that surprising," because Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other Islamist leaders "have a similar view of democracy," says Shadi Hamid, director of research at the Brookings Doha Center.

They believe winning elections gives them a mandate and considerable latitude to pursue their vision, even in the face of significant opposition, Hamid says. "There's less of an idea of consensus building or taking into account the positions of the electoral minorities."

But they also write:

The democratic changes that followed the Arab Spring revolts have led to the political rise of Islamist groups sidelined or repressed by Middle East political structures for decades. In Turkey, Erdogan's Islamist government has gained power in part by eroding the once powerful influence the nation's military had on politics.

While the Islamists have taken advantage of democratic elections, they appear not to have embraced another feature of Western democracy: protecting minorities from the majority.

Oh please. When were the elections "democratic" to start with? Chances are the ones in Egypt were rigged too. But they nailed it down right that minorities are not protected under Islamic regimes, not even if they pay jizya.

According to the activist who heckled Michelle Obama, lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders make up 22% of the workforce.

Is this correct?

I work in NYC in industries with heavy non-hetero participation.

And it ain't even close to 10%.

Does anyone out there have the real numbers?

Just asking.... on account of the fact that I think the numbers on this are as wrong as the ones that purport to show muslims are worse victims of hate crimes than Jews, or that CO2 is causing catastrophic climate change. Or this idea that we can create economic growth by printing money. Or the idea that we can lower healthcare costs and health insurance prices by insuring more people for more health issues.

In other words, I'm inclined to think the 22% number is bogus. Propaganda. Postmodern leftist BS.

The second-quarter UCLA Anderson Forecast said the growth of real gross domestic product — meaning the inflation-adjusted value of goods and services produced — is too small to help the nation climb out of its slump. The figure was 15.4 percent below a "normal" growth trend, forecast director Edward Leamer wrote. "To get back to that 3 percent trend, we would need 4 percent growth for 15 years, or 5 percent growth for eight years, or 6 percent growth for five years, not the disappointing twos and threes we have been racking up recently," he said.

"It's not a recovery. It's not even normal growth. It's bad," he wrote.

WHO IS IRS LAWYER CARTER HULL - AND WHO IS HIS BOSS?

Two Internal Revenue Service employees in the agency's Cincinnati office told congressional investigators that IRS officials in Washington helped direct the probe of tea-party groups that began in 2010. Transcripts of the interviews, viewed Wednesday by The Wall Street Journal, appear to contradict earlier statements by top IRS officials, who have blamed lower-level workers in Cincinnati. Elizabeth Hofacre said her office in Cincinnati sought help from IRS officials in the Washington unit that oversees tax-exempt organizations after she started getting the tea party cases in April 2010. Ms. Hofacre said Carter Hull, an IRS lawyer in Washington, closely oversaw her work and suggested some of the questions asked applicants. 

"I was essentially a front person, because I had no autonomy or no authority to act on [applications] without Carter Hull's influence or input," she said, according to the transcripts. 

Mr. Hull could not be reached for comment.

THE OVERLOOKED DHIMMITUDE OF THE BOY AND GIRL SCOUTS

I know plenty of people are let down by the Boy Scouts for caving in to pressure from LGBT activists to include homosexuals in their programs, and likely have even dropped the recognition of homosexuality as a mental abnormality.

But even before all this transpired, did you know the both the Boy and Girl Scouts were pandering to Muslims? A guy writing for Tea Party Nation, amazingly, brought this up just 2 years ago:

Did you know there is an Islamic Council on Scouting of North America and National Islamic C... (Boy Scouts of America)? I didn't think so.

According to their website, "The Islamic Council on Scouting vision and promise [is] to promote and guide cooperative contacts between the proper authorities of Muslim organizations, mosques, and proper authorities of Islamic organizations, mosques and centers in partnership with Scouting. This Vision is directed at developing the spiritual phase among Islamic youth by means of the Scout oath and law."

Daniel Pipes also noted this association back in 2004 and had several updates since, including the dhimmitude of the British Girl Scouts. This is something that may have been going on since the mid-80s. The Seattle Times had another report in 2008:

There are currently about 90 Boy Scout units — including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing Crews (for young men and women ages 14 to 20) — chartered to Muslim organizations. That's up from 58 eight years ago.

And just 2 years ago, World Net Daily reported:

The Boy Scouts of America maintains scouting partnerships with Islamic groups closely tied to the Muslim Brotherhood, WND has learned.

The Boy Scouts of America welcomes major religions, including Islam. It has incorporated under its banner a group called the National Islamic Committee on Scouting, or NICS, which provides Muslim scouts an opportunity to earn badges or emblems by participating in religious activities.

Now it's bad enough that the Scouts caved on the issues of homosexuality. But for all those sources whom they've betrayed, from parents to churches to synagogues, here's a challenging question they might want to ask themselves: where was the outrage over the Scouts' dhimmitude when the news first turned up? Why only now is it a dire affair?

Yes, the whole notion that the Scouts must appease a mindset that condones abnormal behavior - and that can also include beastiality - is atrocious. But pandering to a religion that condones violence and is the complete antithesis of Judeo-Christian values is even worse, and by allowing that alliance, the Boy and Girl Scouts alike have long betrayed all they allegedly stood for. Just because Islam is allegedly a religion that believes in monotheism (and the opposition to drawn imagery of Muhammed actually proves that part false) doesn't make it a good religion, and the Scouts' staff's failure to research and object to any association with Islamic groups proves they made an unfunny joke out of their morale long ago.

I will say in fairness that if the Boy Scouts needed some good advice on how to best combat the LGBT moonbats, they could have said that gays/lesbians are welcome to join their groups provided they're willing to make sacrifices and compromises not unlike what the military asks for - they could say they're allowed to join on the provision that a]they be willing give up their homosexuality, b]not be stubborn in believing homosexuality is something they absolutely must believe in just because they're told to, and c]even sponsor programs designed to help gays and lesbians overcome their mental situation so they can be properly heterosexual. There's really nothing too difficult about that. A co-ed scout movement could also have helped.

I have a feeling that despite where the Boy Scouts are going now, Muslim scout groups won't be subject to this embarrassment and no LGBTs will make noise over it, proving this was little more than a smokescreen for anti-Judeo-Christian sentiment. Yet the dhimmitude the Scouts fell into may explain why it got to this point, and why movements like the Tea Party didn't come to their aid. Why, what parent or donor in the right frame of mind could contribute to the Scouts if they realized their money could even go to funding dangerous Muslim organizations and propaganda?

In the end, it may not be a loss for everyone, once they realize how the Boy Scouts denigrated their own belief system by associating with Muslim activists. But for those who think it is, they'll have to come to terms with how failure to object to the Scouts' worst alliances was but one reason why this ended up happening too.

The Family: The Last Line of Defense Against State Power 

It is an open secret that the State and the Family do not get along. As Leviathan grows, that which claims a greater hold on the minds, hearts, souls, and loyalties of its citizen-subjects becomes increasingly perceived as a threat to be neutralized or destroyed.

Traditional Marriage: The Secret of Familial Strength  

Presently, our society is facing an unprecedented, albeit long in the works, threat to the strength and integrity of the family. This could all change within the next generation. As an alternative to the traditional conception of marriage, two proposals have arisen. In the first, it has been proposed that marriage be altered in our legal code from one man and one woman to any two consenting adults. In the second — one favored by many libertarians — it has been proposed that our legal recognition of marriage be done away with entirely. Both proposals constitute folly and a threat to liberty.

The appeasers cry, Peace, Peace – but there is no peace. And no "religion of peace", either. Perhaps they say "religion of peace" because they believe saying it will help us avoid a global religious war. But that war has actually already begun. Gales have already swept across the seas to our shores bringing to our ears the clash of resounding arms, our eyes the horror of riots, beheadings and bombs.

And our brothers and sisters in the armed forces and special forces have long been in the field!

We have been lately told by the current ruling elites that we have to choose between a left or right - between their "smart diplomacy" and our clumsy "war-mongering".

But in this global war, there is no such thing as a left or right. There's only "UP" or DOWN". "UP" is humanity's age-old dream: maximal individual freedom consistent with law and order, or "DOWN" the ash heap of totalitarianism.

The same folks who want us to trade our "risky" freedom for the safe soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us they have a solution for peace without victory. They call their policy "smart diplomacy", but that's just another way to say accommodation and appeasement.

And they say if we'll only avoid any direct "islamophobic" confrontation with the enemy here and abroad, that the enemy will forget their evil ways and learn to love us.

All of us who oppose this policy are indicted as racists, islamophobes and warmongers. They say we offer simple answers to complex, nuanced problems. But perhaps there is a simple answer—not an easy answer—but a simple one: If you and I have the courage to continue to tell our elected officials that we want our national policy based on what we know in our hearts is both morally right and at the very heart and soul of who we are as a nation.

That's what we tea partiers are all about, and why the appeasers have been attacking us with everything they got - including the IRS.

We mustn't buy a false security and phony freedom from the threat of the terrorists' bombs by committing an immorality so great as saying to our allies and to billions of human beings now terrorized on every continent - by over 20,000 attacks since 9/11, "Give up your dreams of freedom and self-determination because to save our own skins, we're going to accommodate your slave masters."

That would be a rejection of our founding principles and a disgrace - and as Alexander Hamilton said, "A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one."

We must reject the false dichotomy of the appeasers: There's no argument over the choice between peace and war - we'd all prefer peace. The choice is between liberty and tyranny.

What is more, there's only one guaranteed way we can have peace—and we can have it in the next second—and that is by surrendering. If we surrender to our enemies and convert from our way of life to theirs, then we will have peace.

There is a risk in any course we follow other than surrendering.

Appeasement is merely surrendering a little bit at a time. Our well-meaning, appeasing, liberal friends refuse to face this fact.

They refuse to accept that their policy of so-called "smart diplomacy", accommodation and appeasement doesn't really give us peace and avoid war; it really only means we will be surrendering our liberty slowly instead of fighting for it.

We have a rendezvous with destiny.  A choice:

We'll either preserve for our children and our children's children Western civilization by fighting with every means necessary, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.

Can a thousand years of darkness really be what the appeasers wish for? Would the liberals really have this for themselves and their children and their children's children? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of 1000 years of islamist-phobia, and dhimmi chains?

I know the course appeasers will take - they took it with Sudetenland, which only emboldened the enemy, made them stronger and the inevitable war worse. The appeasers have sought to do it again by appeasing the Muslim Brotherhood and the Taliban and Iran and Turkey and Fatah and so on.

But as for us, Americans true to our founding principles, we refuse to take that course. We say: Give us liberty or give us death!

Cutter insists that Shulman was simply meeting about implementation of ObamaCare — and in fairness, one of her responsibilities was managing communications strategy for the unpopular law. But as everyone knows, Stephanie Cutter’s expertise is not primarily in the policy area; it is in the realm of politics: Political strategy and communications.  She has been described by the Daily Beast as a partisan “pit bull.”  Her job isn’t the nuts and bolts of governing.  She is a political fixer.  That’s why she was a Deputy Campaign manager for the President’s re-election. ...

The whole point of the IRS' supposed "independence" is to insulate the agency from the influence and machinations of people exactly like Stephanie Cutter.

So whether or not the stated purpose of the meetings was about ObamaCare -- unless Shulman's politics are very different from the lefty leanings of his wife -- it isn't hard to imagine Shulman and Cutter exchanging some congruent views.  That's particularly true given that foremost in political discussion at the time was the Citizens United case (holding it unconstitutional for the government to restrict speech by corporations, associations and unions), which had recently been handed down by the Supreme Court -- and which scared President Obama to death.  Is it really a stretch to think that Cutter and Shulman might have commiserated, bemoaned the supposed threat to democracy, and wished that something could be done, oh so subtly? . . . Consider the following timeline:

May 2009 - Cutter moves to White House from Treasury Department

January 2010 - Citizens United is handed down; Democrats are hysterical

March 2010 - IRS begins targeting Tea Party and other conservative groups

April 2010 - Cutter assigned to sell health care reform; if meetings with Shulman didn't occur before, presumably they did so afterwards.

A court in Cairo has convicted 43 Egyptian and foreign employees of non-governmental (NGO) organisations for working illegally in Egypt.
The court sentenced the defendants - most of them in absentia - to jail terms of up to five years. It also ordered the closure of offices and the seizure of assets in Egypt belonging to several US NGOs. The case - which began in 2012 - has strained relations between Cairo and Washington.US officials had threatened to cut off the roughly $1.5bn (£980m) in aid paid to Egypt every year.

On Tuesday, the Cairo court sentenced 27 defendants to five years in prison. Another five received two years and 11 were given one-year terms. Only five defendants, including one American national, were present in court. Most foreign defendants - nationals of the US, Germany, Serbia and Arab states - were able to leave the country last year after the authorities had lifted a travel ban against them. They include Sam LaHood, son of the US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. He received a five-year prison term.

SLAVES LIBERATED IN TIMBUKTU AS THEIR MUSLIM OWNERS FLEE

Following the liberation of Mali by French forces, some former slaves rescued in the raid now tell their experiences (via Front Page Magazine, Atlas Shrugs and Jihad Watch):

TIMBUKTU, Mali — Her light-skinned master no longer beats her with a camel whip. He no longer makes her work from dawn to night without pay. He fled with his family four months ago, along with the Islamists who briefly ruled this historic city.

“I am free,” said Aminaya Traore, a 50-year-old woman who was born into slavery. “I can do whatever I want.”

Across this sand-swept city, hundreds of modern-day slaves are experiencing a sense of liberation, many for the first time. Nearly all the lighter-skinned Tuaregs and Arab Moors who for generations exploited them have fled the city, fearing reprisal attacks for supporting supporting the Islamists or the Tuareg separatists whose rebellion helped ignite the Islamist takeover of Mali’s north last year.

“Under the Islamists, blacks were exploited even more by the pink-skinned people,” said Roukiatou Cisse, a social worker with Temedt, a human rights group, referring to the Tuaregs and Arab Moors. “They told them, ‘We are with the Islamists. We are in power. We are the masters and you are our slaves. We will do what we want.’ ”

“Now, the slaves have profited by the pink-skinned people leaving.”

The jubilation underscores how deeply divided Mali’s northern communities became during the 10-month rule of the Islamists, who included homegrown jihadists, such as the Tuaregs and Arab Moors, as well as foreigners with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, the terror network’s West and North Africa branch. A French-led military intervention that began in January ousted the Islamists from towns in the north, though a guerrilla war continues.

Under the Islamists, many Tuaregs and Arab Moors took advantage of their shared ethnic backgrounds with the jihadists and asserted themselves over their black neighbors. The widened rift between the communities could take years, if not decades, to close, residents say....

Slavery was abolished in 1960 after the West African nation gained independence, and all people are considered equal under Mali’s constitution. Yet there’s no law that criminalizes slavery, making it hard to seek legal action. And there’s little political will to address the problem: Many government officials deny the practice exists.

Today, an estimated 200,000 people live as slaves or in slavelike conditions in Mali, mostly in rural areas, according to Temedt, which means “solidarity.” The advocacy group Anti-Slavery International says that “descent-based slavery” exists in other West African countries as well, including Mauritania and Niger.

Those who have been freed, often by running away, still face discrimination because of their family’s historical status as slaves. Most of the people who have slaves are Tuareg, though some black ethnic groups in northern Mali have also been known to have slaves, who are known as Bella, which means both “black” and “slave.”

I think the Tuareg are the very same Berber tribe the Volkswagen utility vehicle is named after. And the Moors? I think that name is basically synonymous with Muslim; Cervantes himself said westerners should trust no Moors, because they're all deceitful. Why name a car after a community that's still slavemongering? Better still, why buy it?

Those slaves who were freed are very lucky to be saved from the nightmare they went through. But there's still many more who still suffer, because of weak-willed politicians who won't come to their aid.

Woman Holds Off Burglar With Gun, Burglar Gets So Scared He Barfs

An Ohio woman held a would-be burglar at gunpoint until police arrived, warning him, “if you move, you’re gonna go to the morgue.” 

Tammy Takach of Steubenville was sleeping Thursday morning when a noise in her home woke her up. She told WPXI-TV she grabbed her gun and went downstairs to find an intruder who’d entered through a window holding an air conditioning unit. He begged her not to call the police. 

“He stood up and put his hands up,” Takach told WTOV-TV. “He said, ‘I’m just going to go. I’m sorry,’ and I said, ‘The only place you’re going to go is jail, and if you move, you’re gonna go to the morgue, because I’m going to blow your f-ing head off.” 

Takach kept the gun aimed at him the entire time until police arrived. Upstairs, Takach’s son was still asleep, completely unaware of what was happening. 

Ryan Geary, 23, was arraigned Friday on charges of burglary and possessing criminal tools. If convicted, he could face up to nine years in prison. 

Takach’s husband, Anson, said the family owns multiple firearms but that it was the first time his wife ever had to use one in a situation like that. 

“We go to the range as much as we can. We own a lot of firearms,” Anson Takach told WTOV. “I’ve had extensive training with firearms, so I teach her and my son how to be responsible and to remain calm in situations like that.”

Yeah, this is a funny story, because the criminal got so fraidy-cat he barfed. That's friggin' awesome.

But there's also something very important to note here. And that is the woman's uniquely American explanation for what she did:

“Defend what’s yours”, she told reporters, “Don’t let anyone take what is yours”.

Here's what America is about:

1) You own yourself, your thoughts, your actions, your creative impulses, your mind ...

2) You own the works of your hands (and mind) and the stuff that comes from your work (your possessions)

3) If anyone tries to destroy your sovereignty over yourself or your possessions, you have the right to defend yourself.

Anyone who doesn't agree with that really ought to just get the fuck out of the country. That's the Contract we live by. It's called the Constitution. If you don't like it, go to Europe, let people steal what's yours with no recourse, and live like the trod-upon wimp you are.
